Blue Magic [Boo]

The problem with putting children to bed early, is that they awake early, parents don’t seem to understand this. It was not Thora’s fault they would decide to stay up late and only get a few hours’ sleep. She woke fully rested and ready to confront a new day! And this morning was no different. Waking in her bed, her favourite colour blue, she turned to the window to see the morning had not yet arrived, at least it had not visited her window yet and she rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she pushed back the covers of her bed, grabbed the leg of her plush teddy bear and headed for the door.

There was only a splash of morning light filling New Himmeldal, but enough for her to find her way to Boo’s room on the upper levels. Mama and Papa were at the other end of the floor and there was not a sound coming from their room. It was bitterly cold this morning, her bare feet padding along the wooden floor in a hurry to his door and when Thora opened it, it was dark as the curtains were drawn but she knew Boo was here, he is always here.

She climbed up and over the foot of his bed, crawling along to his pillow before sliding down into the covers next to her brother. Her feet felt the smooth coils of, well it was either Coi or Azi and wrapped around the top of his head was the wolf pup sound asleep. Ooo was so pretty, all blue and yellow with his hair messed up from dreaming. Thora loves her big brother to pieces, even though he can be grumpy with her sometimes, especially when she wakes him.

In Thora’s eyes, Boo was magic, he could do magic in everything he does, a child finds magic because they look for it.

Thora lay next to him impatiently watching his face for any signs of him waking but nothing, only a slight movement under the covers and between their faces popped out Azi looking at her flicking her long tongue, Thora copied her sticking out her tongue. She giggled before bapping Azi gently on the nose until she recoiled back under the covers. Thora held no fear of Ooo’s pets, they had not done anything to her to warrant it, ever.

“Ooo?”, she whispered wondering why he did not wake. He would need encouragement.

Her small hands landed on his face, and she tried to open his eyes, “Ooo”, she said louder, “Wake up .. play?”.

One thing that they hadn't had in the Coruscant Undercity was sunlight.

Midvinter had a lot of sunlight. Mainly because Midvinter didn't have a whole lot of massive structures that stretched into the lower atmosphere. Hardly any large buildings, to be honest. The Temple of Dawn was almost unique in that respect. Everything here tended to be simple. There was a lot of space. Like, a lot of space that was just open and the buildings and structures rarely stacked more than a couple of stories.

This meant that the sunlight reached just about everywhere.

However, the Pantoran had adapted. Retreating under the covers, the boy was nothing more than a Boo-shaped lump in the bed that was covered in wolves and snakes. Which sounded much more ferocious than it actually was. For starters, it was just one wolf and that one was too small to be dangerous. Second, one of the snakes was a SnuggleSnek. That was pretty much exactly what it said on the tin.

Coi was cuddling with Boo under the covers, while the amphistaff was nestled underneath Boo's pillow. While her head retreated back under the pillow, Azi's tail extended from out of the other side and could be seen flipping about as it wagged like a golden retriever.

The boy's yellow eyes fluttered open, only to find a Thora looking at him.

Bringing his arms up, Boo hugged the toddler against him. Coi, for her part, was immediately happy for another person to love and circled around the girl. Leaning to one side, the Pantoran gently pressed his forehead against Thora's head. "No play. More sleep," the boy said.

No, he didn't imagine that it would work.

It would be nice if it did though.

Thora was patient.

While her Boo closed his eyes once more, to sleep, she rested her small hands on his cheeks gently tracing his markings on his face. It was nice and cozy under the furs, and with all the warmth they provided between them and his snakes loved it. She giggled as Coi coiled around her and nuzzled into her hair and she stayed this way for a little while longer waiting for Boo to finish sleeping.

Two minutes had passed, that was long enough wasn't it? Besides, Thora was at the limits of her patience.

"Now play?", she asked once more, more hopeful and pressing her forehead harder to his so that their eye lashes touched and she blinked to tickle him with them. With all the chatter and movement in the bed, the little wolf pup stretched and yawn with a high pitched noise which Thora thought so cute. But the pup just flopped his head back on the pillow and went to sleep.

Boo was in much danger of course if he continued to sleep, the danger was that he would wake .. eventually.. to find bows and ribbons in his hair. Thora is a girl and like all the pretty things, and she wants to make him pretty too! She wondered what Azi and Coi would look like with bows around their necks and one on the puppy's tail would be so good, of course this was a phase that Thora would grow out of in time.

She was also curious, some days Boo would disappear into the forest for an hour or so and come back without telling her were he went. He only told her something about praying but she did not know what that was either, maybe one day she would follow him .. if she could find a way to get passed all the defenses that keep her in and out the door into freedom.

She wasn't called Thora the Explorer for nothing.

Boo was not one to object to snuggling.

Drawing his knees up, the Pantoran curled up as he hugged the toddler to him and just enjoyed laying there. From the foot of bed, he felt the pup Lokar roll over. Then, a moment later, felt several small feet moving atop the top of the bed until the pup settled back down against the back of Boo's head.

Then he felt Thora press against his face. "Now play?"

Boo's eyes fluttered open. "Okay," the boy offered with a yawn. As he lifted his head up, he could feel Lokar and Azi's tails slapping against the covers as they both started wagging.

Clearly, Thora wasn't the only one with ideas that involved getting out of bed.

"Do you wanna play 'what does Thora want for breakfast?'"

Immediately Boo said 'Okay', a rapid mass of squirming and kicking off the bed covers soon had Thora free and out of the bed letting in all the cold air around Boo's body. "No O-meal", she quickly informed him, enough was enough of that stuff, and too be honest that game sounded not very fun. But she would take what she could get, and after all Boo was awake and ready for the day, at least in her mind.

Thora reached for the latch of the door to open it allowing all her followers through delighting in them as they passed and she decided there and then that Azi would indeed look very pretty with a bow around her neck, but that would be something to consider later. Boo was a bit sluggish getting out of bed however, Thora encouraged him further with a tug of his arm before vanishing out the door at full pace to the stairs. The stairs were the only things that slowed the girl to walking pace, eyeing them off with some sense of caution still, but she was brave! Brave but cautious.

Her chair in the kitchen was pulled out with a very loud scraping on the stone floor, loud enough to wake the neighbours but they had gone on their daily chores hours ago. Thora opened the kitchen window hoping to see Morfy outside but he was not there, she stuck her head out and called for him but no answer, the only thing that did was a large pile of snow that had settled on the window which fell on the back of her neck. She did not seem to mind though, in fact it gave her a great idea for the days play if Boo was up for it. Maybe they could go down to the dock and throw stones on the ice to see if it would crack.

So many things to do! so little time! before mama or papa would call for them.

"eeky balls?", she asked him hopefully he knew how to boil an egg. Boo knew pancakes, he knew toast, he knew juice but did he knew eeky balls.

The disheveled Pantoran half-craweled, half-rolled from out of bed.

Bare feet padded across the cold floor, in an ambling pursuit of the toddler that was already at the stairs. The cold seeped in, though the blue-skinned youth was remarkably comfortable with the sensation. Most human environments were too warm for his tastes. Midvinter's climate was much closer to that of the Pantoran's native Orto Plutonia.

It wasn't Csillia and it damn sure wasn't Ilum, but as far as places that he'd lived with Théo went, Midvinter suited Boo just fine.

Azi and Coi slithered along the floor, following behind the boy's steps. Lokar was bounding on all fours, dashing ahead to sniff at Thora before running back to Boo and then repeating the cycle again.

Making his way down the stairs, Boo wound his way into the kitchen and then onward to the pantry. He pulled out some cereal for himself and a handful of eggs for Thora. Setting everything out on one of the counter tops, he next began rooting through cabinets for a pot while Azi and Coi each started scaling up his legs.

As the snakes wound their way up his body, the boy selected a pot and began filling it up with water before finally crossing to the stove and setting it atop one of the heating elements.

While that was heating, he pulled the box of cereal over to him and just started eating out of it with one hand.

She watched her big brother, with elbows on the table resting her chin in her hands and she did not say a word as he munched on raw cereal from the box. That was so gross, cereal was so gross and she had to wonder if mama and papa had forced him as a child to eat it that much he learned to like it. There could not be any other reason for it, to her mind. Her eyes followed both Azi and Coi slithering up his body seeking out food for themselves which made her giggle at their play, just as she felt the cold wet nose of Lokar on her exposed toes.

"Hey!", she called out to him pulling up her legs, which only caused the pup to love the game as he tried to nip at them. Thora loved him, so white and fluffy and he looked so cute with ribbons and bows, not that he liked them although he did like ripping them to shreds. But once Lokar found something new to grab his attention, Thora puzzled over something as she returned to her brother.

"Ooo?", she prompted a question. "Where do you go?", she asked with limited words, and fully expecting him to understand her entirely. He would know, she knew that cause he would always tell her to run along home if she tried to follow him, she hated that! she hated being left out of anything, it would make her so frustrated not only because she did not understand them doing so, but her limited understanding of the situation. Thora wanted to know so much as any kid does and everyone took for granted that she knew nothing because of a child's mind.

The very opposite is true of course, a child's mind is in need of being filled with knowledge and understanding that does not mean that they can't understand. After all, why all the questions?
