Blank Canvas : Lowick

Lowick | [member="Tai Fa"] | Unknown Spaceport

Wind kicked up dust on the hardscrabble spaceport and caused the weeds in between the cracks of duracrete to bend and sway. Large freighters had arrived, their ramps down with sentients of various species milling around and speaking to one another. Scillal was merely another dot on the map. No one ever really stopped long enough to poke around the planet. A few developments were on the planet but they were considerable laughable by galactic standards.

Judah saw some potential however. He liked having locations for Salacia that were often considered off the grid. Less government involvement, less red tape. Most times it just required working out an agreement with the locals, sometimes a payment or two. Typically he developed such planets to suit his needs. State of the art spaceport. A small town.

Working with him this time would be Tai Fa of Fa Holdings. The man recently worked with his son and seemed suitable to include on the project. Fa Holdings had some interest in agriculture and infrastructure, perfect for the vast of nothing of jungle that awaited them.

It came as a surprise to him when Dashiell made contact.

His son and him had made a beneficial contract, back when a move was necessary from his old location to the new on Sanctuary, but that was a while ago now. Apparently though, he managed to make an impression, which only solidified his own perspective; which was that cheating a man out of his money (literal or not) brought short-term gain.

But it did little to attract new business that helped your corporation grow.

Tick, tick, tick tick, sounded as Lord Fa made his way from the fledgling spaceport and towards Judah himself. This time no Vnut of Garnib, looming high over him.

Just himself.

There were some Vigor Troopers back at his shuttle, but that was more for general protection than anything else.

"Hi Mister Dashiell.
This is quite the pleasure, yes.
How is your son now?"
"And you too, of course."

Jungle heat rolled over him, the sounds of creatures hiding amongst the underbrush and in the tree tops filled the air. Lowick had several small settlements already in place but there was always room for improvement. The spaceport was a good example. Typical Outer Rim quality spaceport. He didn't expect much more though considering the location. Lowick wasn't exactly known as a hub, more or less a large farming community.

"Pleased to meet you as well Mr. Fa. Makai is fine as am I. How are you today? I trust your trip was well?"

Lord Fa inclined his beak in acknowledgment.

"It was quite pleasant.
It gave me time to study.
The papers you send."

In it were the preliminary reports Salacia Consolidated had gathered together about this planet.

Not that there was much to go on, of course. The system itself, Pa'Lowick, was fairly away from all civilization. Kessel was nearby and that meant the Silver Jedi, but Lord Fa had determined they weren't much of a threat- as long as you weren't overt with your operations, they didn't really dig too far into matters. He wasn't sure if that was by design or if they simply did not have the capacity to explore possibilities.

Mattered little in the grand scheme of things.

Pa'Lowick had Lowick as a world and apparently a heavy-loaded asteroid belt carrying the same name. It was already determined as a viable mining place, probes were on the way to figure out if there was anything worthwhile there.

Minerals, maybe heavy metals or other resources that could be used.

The world itself was... well, mostly farmland. The people were separated in little settlements criss-cross the country side and no real cities to speak of, only the spaceport here was viable for extended refueling and landing protocols. But that would probably change, once they gave the go-ahead with some of the initial plans they had set out for the world.

"Lowick, quite the world.
One of scores undeveloped.
Why do you want me?"

The heat did not seem to bother Lord Fa at all, even in his elaborate attire.

Jungle and farmland, quite the combination. Of course there was the asteroid belt filled with minerals and metals but Judah personally preferred not to disrupt the planetary ecosystem with heavy mining. There was always room for him to build another space station and orbital mining facility. However, they weren't here for the mining portion yet. One thing at a time.

"Undeveloped is to our advantage of course." Judah fiddled around with his datapad for a moment, pulling together rough plans for facilities. "We will need some work done near the ocean near here, just south of the equator. We're a bit busy to do it ourselves and the jungle will be a bit of a challenge."

Lord Fa accepted the datapad and studied the details it shared with him.

The jungle would most definitely pose an issue, but there were ways around it. Explosives weren't advisable, they would only wreck the environment and give them even more work to explore it, but Fa had worked with Ithorians in the Kyrikal system. He wondered if it was possible to recruit some of them for this effort.

They were better at home in the jungles and could possibly advise on how to move forward.

While minimizing the damage to the ecosystem anyway.

"I see the issue.
I may have an solution.
Talks will be had, yes."
"To see what is feasible."
Lord Fa looked up from the datapad.

"Is there anything else then?"

Judah started across the weed strewn landing pad after Mr.Fa asked what else was available for him to do. The salvager was taking in the limited sights of Lowick as they overlooked the plans for the Salacia facility. Thoughts turned towards what Mr.Fa could also do for Salacia. Infratructure was low. Judah suspected due to the nature of the planet it would most likely stay that way.

Fine by him.

"What about a sustainable arigculture system? Would that could feed the workers I'll have pouring in here, in addition to supporting another three thousand or so on a space station. Hydroponics? I've heard some things....Something where we won't have to burn down large swaths of jungle."

Lord Fa gave this a ponder for a while.

He had invested quite heavily in Blackwell Agriculture, a company that was quite established on Ukio for their agriculture. They probably had the necessary experience to get something set up on the world, perhaps temporary or maybe in a permanent fashion. It could possibly also improve the general lives of the people involved, if they shared some of the foodstuffs with them.

"This is possible.
The Blackwell Agriculture.
They can deal with food."
"I will review the options."

"Of course it would have to be a permanent structure." Judah started moving off the landing pad towards through a path in the jungle. Salacia employees had already cut a path from the landing pad to the ocean where the buildings were to be built. He wasn't sure if Mr.Fa would be overly interested in seeing the proposed site but Judah wanted to retake a look.

"What about workers for this agricultural enterprise? Can this be done by droids, automated? Or do you prefer to hire sentients? A mixture? We'll need it to run smoothly, not sure if we can dedicate too much time and energy into it considering everything else we have planned."

"Also, could this be in place before construction? As in, almost immediately?"

[member="Judah Dashiell"]

Lord Fa waddled next to Judah in silence while he contemplated the time schedule and other questions.

There was a lot to consider about and most of it would have to be done in concert with other individuals in his organization, but a basic approximation could be done regardless.

"Mixed workers work best.
Could be done within two weeks.
Travel and some such."
Within minutes they arrived across the path to the construction zone. The site wasn't overly busy right now, with most of the work still in the preliminary phase. People sorting out if this would be the right zone, pending regulations and possible rises in the water level could pose issues.

It wasn't always easy to simply build what you wished.

"Would that work for you?"

"Two weeks is cutting it close. How about a month and a half? We are still finalizing things on our end and don't foresee getting to the site as quickly as we want. Two months in or so, workers can live off various rations for awhile. I do think we might need to keep the agriculture away from the water. A bit worried about potential run off, even if we used an enclosed area like a greenhouse."

Judah watched as some surveyors struggled up the hilly terrain, a shout to someone below. It was going to be a bit of a struggle to build at the higher elevation, but he had confidence.

"Yet we have a deal. I'll be interested to see what comes of this."
