However, General Sarrel's pride and unshakable belief in Ripoblus supremacy often hinder his broader strategic potential. This makes him a dangerous but inflexible figure in the Sepan system, one who wins wars through strength and tradition, yet risks losing the future by clinging too tightly to the past.
In the late-890s ABY, the general began accepting aid and support from ambitious Imperial warlords seeking to topple the Dimok president. Weapons, armor, vehicles, and training were offered to Karvok's army, in exchange for his support once power was consolidated by his regime. With the help of Black Sun, a massive amount of military equipment was smuggled into the Sepan system, unbeknownst to the Dims or their Republic allies. By 900 ABY, the Rips had evolved from a militia into a neo-Imperial warband capable of fighting a long and bloody civil war - which is exactly what General Karvok intends to do.
