In modernity, recruitment into the Guard has been expanded greatly. - Combat Function: Black Sun Guard are known to fight dirty. They use a mix of ranged blasters like the BH-4 and martial weapons, namely vibroblades and knucklers. The Guard work best in ambush scenarios where they can get the drop on their targets. They separate large forces to disorient and demoralize the enemy, relying on guerilla strikes and unpredictable tactics to pick off trained forces. Black Sun Guard largely patrol high-priority locations, but also act as bodyguards for ranking syndicate members or as escorts for prisoners. They are fiercely loyal to the syndicate, rarely retreating from a fight unless as part of an elaborate strategy to disarm the enemy.

- Fight Dirty: Black Sun Guard are trained soldiers, but they're still employed by a crime syndicate. They will use whatever is at their disposal to gain the upper hand and secure victory, whether it's making use of environmental hazards or putting innocents in danger. Outlawed weaponry such as dioxis grenades are a favorite of the Black Sun Guard.
- Pack Tactics: Like hungry wolves, Black Sun Guard surround and overwhelm their foes. If outnumbered or outgunned, they will corral the enemy, separating them into smaller groups that are easier to overwhelm.

- Self-Taught: While far more effective than thugs and gangsters, Black Sun Guard's training is by no means formal or standardized. Combat prowess, tactical reasoning, and discipline can vary greatly from soldier to soldier, as many of them are armed with what they've learned for themselves in the Underworld.
- Small Numbers: Black Sun Guard usually work in units of six to twelve soldiers, a relatively small deployment size when compared to formal armies and large private military companies.

Recruitment into the Black Sun Guard is exceptionally selective. Members are drawn from former special forces, bounty hunters, and gladiatorial champions - all individuals who are undeniably tempered by violence and loyalty. Once inducted, recruits undergo brutal conditioning to ensure ideological obedience to the syndicate. Many are cybernetically enhanced or drug-augmented to maintain peak performance. The Guard maintains its own strict chain of command, headed by the nefarious Captain of the Guard. They operate out of hidden barracks and strongholds across Black Sun territories, including cells on Coruscant, Ord Mantell, and Nar Shaddaa. Their duties range from executing assassinations, guarding high-value assets, and suppressing rival cartels.
What distinguishes the Black Sun Guard from common muscle is their strategic integration into Black Sun's vast web of operations. Each Guard detachment is typically paired with slicers, information brokers, or logistics officers, ensuring surgical precision in their interventions. They often lead raids on behalf of Black Sun holdings, protect high-level smuggling convoys, or serve as the silent threat behind delicate negotiations. Though outwardly loyal to the syndicate, the Guard is known to harbor its own inner circles and agendas, with whispers suggesting they sometimes act as kingmakers within the organization, ensuring the survival of the syndicate even if it means removing compromised Vigos. In this way, the Black Sun Guard serves not only as enforcers but as secret stewards of the criminal empire's continuity.
