STRENGTHS
  • Unabashed Brute Force: With surfaces coated in all manners of offensive equipment– mass drivers, turbolasers, missile silos, and a contingent of ion cannons– the Bilbringi-class Star Destroyer can quite easily bring the majority of its armament to bear on a single target ahead or otherwise deliver a devastating broadside salvo, in the same manner of the Imperial Star Destroyers of old.
  • Highly Automated: The amount of droid brains integrated into the Bilbringi-class’s subsystems keeps its crew complement far smaller than that which was necessitated of its Imperial-II predecessor. While keeping the vessel’s crew at a manageable amount for the BIDF, this heavy automation also served to eliminate potential human error wherever possible and practical.
  • Carrier: The Bilbringi-class can carry a total of 10 starfighter and auxiliary squadrons within its interior.
  • Troops: If necessitated by the circumstance, the Bilbringi-class’s expansive barracks facilities may facilitate the carrying of approximately 9000 soldiers and their equipment.
  • Armor: Should an enemy cripple the shields of the Bilbringi-class, it must still manage to break through the countless layers of reinforced armor that guard the star destroyer’s critical subsystems
WEAKNESSES
  • Exposed Bridge: Ultimately, vessels of the Bilbringi class largely retained their predecessors’ outward design structure, and rather noticeably the Imperial-class’s massive command and control tower. Despite the new class generally being more robustly defended than its precursors, a well placed shot to the bridge tower can easily knock out the vessel’s main command and control systems.
  • Turning Speed: The immense mass created by the Bilbringi-class’s armament and structure came at a high price; despite the designers’ best efforts to increase the vessel’s complement of RCS maneuvering thrusters, the vessel remained nearly impossible to maneuver in any tactically-significant amount of time– surely not quickly enough to cover its blind spots or pursue a more maneuverable fleeing vessel.
  • Highly Automated: The droid brains and AI Administration integrated into the Bilbringi class present opportunities for a hostile vessel’s ECM facilities to hijack or disable with well-placed ion cannon rounds. Should enough of the star destroyer’s droid brains be taken offline, the vessel is utterly crippled and unable to coordinate its individual gunnery sections.
DESCRIPTION
Long ago, vessels bearing the imposing silhouettes of Imperial-class Star Destroyers roamed the expanse of the void under the flag of the Galactic Empire. Under the weight of their offensive arsenals, the galaxy grew to recognize and revere the mighty vessels; this was to such an effect, that even after the horrors of the Gulag Plague gripped the galaxy and plunged it into a long dark age of knowledge, vessels bearing the schematics of the ancient Imperial II Star Destroyer would continue to sail the expanse– under the flag of the Bilbringi Imperial Defense Force.

But these ancient vessels were just that– ancient. Despite Bilbringi’s integration of modern droid brains and other such methods of shipboard automation, the Star Destroyers remained a drain on manpower, and were otherwise made to stand apart from the rest of the galaxy’s modernization. It was only until the IDFV Wolf, flagship of the renowned Seven Bilbringi Task Force, was tugged into the shipyards of Bilbringi from the belt of Csilla as a fiery wreck that the defense force’s designers pounced, seizing their opportunity.

Owing to the necessity of a dramatic interior and exterior reconstruction, the shipwrights were free to draw up new plans to integrate the galaxy’s new technologies into the frame of the vessel. Mass driver cannons were fastened to the broadsides of the star destroyer’s space frame, missile silos implanted into its central ridge structure, and more advanced droid brains employed in its command and control protocols. When the designers eventually feasted their eyes on the pristine product of so many weeks of labor, they’d become instantly enamoured. For its dramatic changes in internal design and complete overhaul in armament, the star destroyer was designated an entirely new class of vessel: the Bilbringi-class, in honor of the planet who had kept the design of the Imperial-II alive.

Keeping the offensive spirit of its predecessor in regard, the Bilbringi class retained the ability to lay down fields of crippling fire on a target dead ahead of it, or otherwise deliver devastating broadside salvos from its complement of mass drivers and heavy turbolaser cannons. These decimating actions would be governed by a complex and robust fire control system, capable of finding and holding a steady lock on almost any given target and bombarding it with a number of different arrangements of fire. At the same moment, this sheer gunnery might served to guard the vessel’s expansive hangar, one that facilitated the launch of tens of small craft in short time; further adjacent to columns of barracks facilities for thousands of Bilbringi’s soldiers should a star destroyer be called to ferry an invasion force.

From the moment they were released from the planet's shipyards, the Bilbringi-class Star Destroyers would stand as a symbol of their people's strength and prosperity, symbols of Bilbringi's strong ties to the old world and unceasing desire to nevertheless brave the storms of time with the weights of history in tow.
