STRENGTHS
  • Devastating Bomber Payload - These droids are known to carry an extensive complement of missiles, proton bombs, and seismic charges, which are capable of leveling fortified positions, armored columns, and starship installations in a single attack run.
  • Extremely High Sustained Firepower - Multiple heavy cannons, missile systems, and auxiliary weapons allow continuous bombardment without immediate rearmament.
  • Heavy Defensive Construction - Layered Mandalorian iron alloys, reinforced internal structure, starfighter-grade shields, and a damage reduction system provide the Bes'bavar exceptional survivability under intense fire.
  • Psychological Warfare Capability - The Drexl sound emitter reproduces the shrieking cry of the Dxun predator, often triggering fear responses, broken formations, and reduced enemy morale.
  • Semi-sentient Adaptive Intelligence - Like previous Basilisk War Droids, the Bes'bavar is capable of learning terrain patterns, recognizing hostile behavior, prioritizing targets, and protecting its riders autonomously.
  • Strong Rider Bonding Behavior - The Bes'bavar is known to form protective emotional attachments to both pilot and gunner, increasing battlefield cohesion and reaction speed in combat scenarios.
  • Modular Weapons Architecture - Armaments can be reconfigured for strategic bombing, saturation strikes, or electronic-warfare-heavy loadouts.
  • Dual-Crew Combat Efficiency - Separate pilot and dedicated gunner enable superior situational awareness, targeting accuracy, and weapon management compared to single-rider Basilisk War Droids.
WEAKNESSES
  • Very Low Speed - The Bes'bavar is incapable of rapid pursuit, interception, or disengagement from fast aerial or starfighter-class targets.
  • Poor Maneuverability - These droids struggle with tight turns, dense urban environments, asteroid fields, and complex terrain more than lighter, more agile Basilisk variants.
  • Vulnerability to Ion and EMP Weaponry - Although resistant to conventional weapons, and despite internal agrinium shielding to provide additional protection against radiation and EMP-based attacks, electrical disruption can bypass armor and severely degrade or disable the systems of these droids.
  • Low Resistance to Lightsabers - Jedi, Sith, or Force-users equipped with lightsabers can breach armor plating in close combat with relative ease, far more easily than standard infantry weapons.
  • Ineffective in Close-Quarters Combat - The Bes'bavar lacks the agility and limb dexterity of lighter Basilisk variants and is more suited for bomber and strike roles.
  • Emotional Instability Upon Rider Death - These droids will often halt combat operations to emit prolonged Drexl-like howls, become aggressive, or become unresponsive, often protecting or refusing to leave the body of their deceased pilot or gunner. Some have noted that in the case where both pilot and gunner have died, the droid will often depart the area with the bodies, only to be found in remote regions of a star system or deep space, months or years later.
  • Large and Conspicuous Target Profile - Its size and heat signature make concealment nearly impossible.
  • Terrain Limitations - The Bes'bavar is known to perform poorly in forests, caves, narrow canyons, or unstable ground where it has the potential to become stuck or easily ambushed.
DESCRIPTION
The Bes'bavar-type Basilisk War Droid is a heavy strike platform engineered to serve as the Mandalorian Empire's airborne siege engine and terror bomber. Where lighter Basilisk variants rely on speed or close-quarters brutality, the Bes'bavar sacrifices agility in exchange for overwhelming payload capacity and defensive resilience. Its massive frame houses missile batteries, proton bomb racks, and seismic charge dispensers capable of annihilating hardened fortifications, armored battalions, and starship installations with sustained saturation bombardment.

Designed to be crewed by two riders - a pilot and a dedicated gunner - the Bes'bavar enables true multi-operator warfare. The pilot manages navigation, positioning, and evasive maneuvering, while the gunner controls its vast weapons suite, coordinating missile salvos and bombing runs with ruthless precision. This dual-crew configuration significantly increases battlefield effectiveness but also deepens the machine's psychological imprinting. Unlike most war droids, the Bes'bavar is semi-sentient, and its advanced personality matrix and heuristic processors grant it intelligence comparable to a trained animal or young child. Over time, it forms emotional bonds with both riders, recognizing their voices, flight patterns, and combat behavior. It will often prioritize shielding them with its own bulk, even when doing so contradicts optimal tactical logic.

To magnify its terror, the droid is equipped with a specialized sound emitter capable of reproducing the piercing cry of the Drexl - the winged predator of Dxun once used as a living mount by ancient Mandalorians. When broadcast during bombing runs or low-altitude approaches, the sound has been documented to cause panic, hesitation, and moral collapse among unprepared forces.

When one or both of its riders are killed, the Bes'bavar frequently enters a grief state. It will emit prolonged, distorted howls mimicking a wounded Drexl, sometimes circling the battlefield or hovering near the fallen bodies. In extreme cases, it may refuse command, become violently aggressive toward nearby units, or shut down entirely - in rare instances, it will often collect the fallen bodies and flee into space. Only to be found months or years later.

To the Mandalorians, the Bes'bavar is not merely a weapon platform - it is a living instrument of destruction. It is deployed when cities must burn, fortresses must fall, and enemies must be broken not only by fire, but by fear itself.
