Name: BB-13, “Baby”
Loyalties: Galactic Alliance, assigned to Rogue Squadron. Companion to Aedan Lochlan
Role: Astromech droid. Primary role is trying to keep Aedan from falling out of space.
Development Threads: N/A
Age: It’s a droid. What do I know.
Species: BB unit astromech droid
Force Sensitivity: No

Appearance: The BB unit was a model of astromech droid which featured a domed head, similar to that of the R2 series astromech droid, mounted on a spherical body. Its height is of approximately 0.67 meters. Like earlier astromechs, the BB unit could fit into the droid socket of a starfighter. The primary colour of the droid is white. The secondary color for its stripes are blue.

Personality: BB-13 has the standard protocol programming of the other BB units. However it has over time developed its own distinct character, probably due to a memory wipe that is way overdue. BB-13’s personality leans towards a touch of the extreme, to the point where it might seem flawed straight off the assembly line.

BB-13 can best be described as negative, devoid of any trace of enthusiasm and even depressed. It's a little blue. While it would never question or disobey an order, as that would go against its programming, it would frequently voice its utter lack of faith in the selected course of action’s success. Something that makes BB-13 stand out is that it actually has a voice modulator installed, thus allowing it to speak.

Weapon of Choice: Woe

Wealth: BB-13 is filthy rich. Jk. No wealth. It’s a droid.

Combat Function: BB-13 is not programmed to fight on its own. At best it would be a nuisance. It is equipped with tools that could be used to cause damage, but this is not their primary function, and as such should be considered ineffective. When linked up to a starfighter, however, it’s another matter. Details on this presented under “skilled”.

Skills: Like any other astromech droid it can take over the pilot’s function to some extent. Ideally it would take on support and routine functions to allow the pilot to focus on flying the ship. BB-13 is able to provide its pilot with in-flight maintenance, repairs, a substitute for a nav computer, gunnery control and calculating hyperspace jumps.

Notable Possessions:
Arc Welder
Buzz Saw
Fire Extinguisher
Holoprojector
Holorecorder
Lighter
Liquid Cable Launchers
Manipulator Arm
Scanning equipment including RADAR, SONAR and LIDAR capability
Slicing software
Small Nav Computer
Socket Guard
Translation Unit
Voice Synthesiser
Welding Torch

Other Notes: BB-13, nicknamed “Baby”, was assigned to Aedan when he transferred to Rogue Squadron. The pilot had never come across a droid like this before. Its personality was clearly some malfunction that a little maintenance ought to fix, but Aedan saw the humour in it and decided against a memory wipe. It was something new and different, which made it interesting. The more personality it showed the more ‘real’ it seemed, making a memory wipe harder for Aedan to consider. The fact that the droid was equipped to actually speak Basic only added to this. It would feel wrong, like poking a child on a forehead and giving it amnesia.

Intent: To flesh out Aedan’s astromech droid and add some flavour to his flying missions. A Codex sub also keeps me from forgetting. Part of the intent is to have a droid to act as a counter weight to Aedan’s light-hearted and humorous mood. Also I like Marvin.
