PERSONALITY
Perhaps best described as a pedantic veteran, Oscar is known for constantly correcting people, and pointing out how things were done in his era. Taking a deep pride in outdated standards, he remembers, or at least thinks he remembers, a "better galaxy". This, however, frequently draws him toward melancholy.
After centuries of patchwork repairs and programming updates, Oscar's personality has a proclivity for short-term drifts, leading to sudden mood swings and non-sequiturs. Compounding this, his sense of humor was never properly compiled, so he tends to insert synthetic laughter at the most inappropriate moments.
APPEARANCE
Notable markings:
- Corroded external casing
- Inset head done with exposed circuitry
- Deep tread rubber tire
- Three asymmetric ocular sensors
- Flank and rear cargo canisters

A precursor to the mass-produced BB-series astromech droid, 05C-R, nicknamed "Oscar", was constructed on Hosnian Prime by Industrial Automaton approximately ten years ABY. While demonstrating many of the fundamentals that would quickly give rise to the spherical construction of subsequent units, he lacked key aesthetics and upgrades desired by target end users, and was spared deconstruction only after a touring mogul noted his potential usefulness in traversing the uneven, sometimes steep debris of his salvage yards.
Eventually, the salvage operation was abandoned, as was Oscar, left behind to corrode with the abandoned scrap. Though built to be extremely energy efficient, his robust energy cells eventually failed. Decades passed before he was happened upon, and reactivated, by a survey team who put his rugged form to use mapping wilderness, monitoring borders, and maintaining various remote sensor and communications relays.
Heritors came and went, pressing Oscar into service in countless different ways; ground convoy navigation, mobile tool platform, power systems machinist, sensor hub, and walker guidance among many others. Eventually, however, the droid was set aside again. Without a clear purpose or an owner with emotional attachment, he was discarded, left buried in the crowded mess of a forgotten cargo hold.
Months ticked by, into years, decades, and centuries.
Awoken by a scavenger, Oscar now finds himself in a new struggle to avoid becoming a museum piece, or worse, cast aside once more.

STRENGTHS
- Legacy Droid - Speaks obsolete machine languages, has ports/adapters that are no longer manufactured, and able to understand long-deprecated systems. He is also highly resistant to any attempt to corrupt his software, due to its ancient coding.
- Tire-based Locomotion - Considerable advantages when traversing mud, ash, sand, uneven rock, debris fields, and steep inclines.
- Robust Construction - Built with durability in mind over elegance, Oscar can endure far harsher punishment than the average astromech unit, and is also able to carry and/or pull a considerable amount of equipment when necessary.
NEUTRAL
- Data Vault - Being so old, Oscar is a treasure trove of logs, fragmented history, and ancient war records. While valuable in some settings, much of this is material many people today would like to gain and sell, or desperately wish to be erased, making Oscar both an asset, and a target.
- Combat Support - Most certainly not a fighter, Oscar can assist a battle in only rudimentary ways, such as aim assistance / target acquisition, and deploying flares, smoke, sensor jams, etc.
- Bulky - His increased weight makes him more difficult to bully around than most BB units, but he is also loud, and harder to conceal.
WEAKNESSES
- Outdated - Built with processors and hardware that have long been obsolete, Oscar struggles with modern data ports, systems, and rapid cognitive tasks. If you need a door sliced open, he will get it done, but it may be after you've been vaporized by the pursuing security detail.
- Mobility Limits - Has difficulty with vertical movement, and is vulnerable to being immobilized if his wheel is targeted.
- Rigid Personality - Has a tendency to cling to standards and protocols from ages past, considering them superior, and has little desire to accept current conventions.
- Corrupted Memory Core - Over time, Oscar's inner workings inevitably degraded, and his software become riddled with bugs. This can cause him to misidentify people, forget or hallucinate memories, and become stuck in obsessive, looping behaviours.
