Star Wars: Battle at Weldry

Merc Net Breakdown
Mission Type: Light Battlefield
Location: Planet Weldry, Neutral Space
Mission Completion Payment: 158,000 c

Here's the brief Mercenary.

Mercenaries companies from all over the galaxy have been tearing up Royal Corporate Space for weeks now and the peaceful farming world of Weldry is caught straight in their crossfire. Eager for resources and low on supplies, multiple Merc companies have broken away from the main line and are now raiding local settlements. This petty theft cannont continue. So we're stepping in to put a stop to it. Lady Lyekova of Robert's Rangers is rallying support forces at Nav Point Alpha to strike back at these pirate scum.

Your job is simple Merc. Link up with the supporting forces at Nav Point Alpha. Then launch an all out assault at the raider's base at Nav Point Beta and crush them once and for all. Intel suggests that the OpFor, Ymir's Cavaliers and The Blue Iron Company, are operating multiple raiding parties with light vehicles, tanks, and fighter support in the area. So expect heavy resistance.

Good luck and God speed Mercenary. Merc Net out.

Location: Planet Weldry, Nav Point Alpha

It's busy.

Dropships of all types and banners are landing all around the area and unloading lances of light vehicles and troopers. Supporting forces are gathering amidst the rolling grasslands and sparse tree cover. This world is the color of autumn with the heat of a new swirling summer. Browns, reds, and oranges contrast the endless clear blue skies. It's warm for the season, humid, and nearing evening. The air smells of dense grasses and the salt spray from a nearby ocean. A perfectly picturesque terran world flush with color and raw excitement.

The Lance Commanders are gathering to the banners of the Robert's Rangers. Her wild blue starfighter sits in the middle of the crowd. An equally wild woman, clad in white fur pauldrons and short blue hair, climbs atop her fighter craft. Ready to give a speech.

"Warriors!" She cries with a booming smile. Her cheeks red with excitement.

"Today! We free Weldry!"

"Ooo'rahhHH!"

There is a shout of excitement from the crowd. Hundreds of gathered mercenaries rise their voices to the sky. Men and women from every race, every creed. Fighters, gamblers, freedom fighters, magical wizards, and smirking scoundrels all.

"Doomfang. You've got air support. Capaleon's Marauders. Your tanks are at the front with Gavil's Calvary and Malcolm's Raiders. Red Sisters. You're bikes are on the flank. You'll ride with Cerberus and Ulric's Lightrunners. Big Squadron. Your walkers are our center. Good hunting out there Commanders. Now. Let's saddle up and make these bastards pay for ever setting foot on free soil!"

"Ooo'rahhHH!"

The all shout in unison. And you suspect that some of these misfits might have worked together before. So the chaos begins anew.

Lady Lyekova gives a confident wave to all and dismounts her fighter. Bodies begin to move. Soldiers begin to fall out. The woman, grabbing her helmet, and nodding to the dozens of other pilots of the Robert's Rangers. Twelve custom blue X-Wings in all. They all begin to ready up. So I guess the time for speeches is over. Time to get to work.

She gives a wave and nods loudly for you to approach. Smiling as she notices you amid the filtering crowds.

"Ah. So you're our newcomers. Welcome to the fight. I'm Lyekova. Lady Lyekova to some of these brats. Ha. And I'll be coordinating the supporting forces as we march to Nav Point Beta. Hope you came to make some money and kick some tail. Our fleet Intel shows plenty of butts to go around today. Ha."

The fields around you buzz with activity. Fighter jets are spinning up their engines and tall chicken walkers begin to strut around. Tanks spin around the fields and hover bikes whirl up with excitement. Everybody is getting ready to move out. The shouting of Lance Commanders and mercenary personal bounces back and forth through the air.

"We'll have two squadrons in the air. Three tank squads, two walker, and four biker squadrons. Plus infantry support in the troop carriers and whatever you've brought along with you. Watch out for artillery fire and the big bombs we'll be dropping and you'll do fine."

She smiles and straps on her helm. Her droid whistling away as her bird's engines begin to spool up. The sound is chaotic and crazy all around. So she shouts,

"Anyway. You're welcome to follow us in or do your own thing! Ha! ...As the Jedi like to say: 'Last one there is a rotten egg!' ...We'll see you on the other side Mercenary! And may the Force be with you! Always!"

And. In one, unbelievable move. She jumps high into the air and slips right into her cockpit. Thump. Giving you a wild smile and a big thumbs up. Stillness, all around. The supporting forces are marshaling. Ready to move out. You should probably get moving too.

Stillness. The Force moves. Nearby, a brown haired woman in dark furs leans against her speeder bike. She's wearing Ranger colors on her shoulder and gives you a nod and a wink. She is Samatharis of Rulon. And she'll be coming along too. One more magic woman and burning blue sword. Into the fray.

She nods and gives the widening blue heavens a wave,

"Good luck out there! It's going to be one hell of a ride. Ha."

She laughs and mounts up. Meanwhile, Walkers are beginning to walk, tanks are beginning to tread, and Starfighters are being their lift off. Filling the skies above with glowing blue birds and sounds of a coming war.

~ "All Units this is Angel One." A familiar female voice beckons across the radio, "We are go for advance and the light is green. Weapons hot people. Nav Point Beta is marked. Here we go." ~

~ "Doomfangs advancing." ~
~ "Marauders advancing." ~
~ "Lightrunners doing our thing." ~
~ "This is Red Sisters. We are on your mark." ~
~ "Gavils. Roger. Advancing now." ~

It was go time. The battle on the autumn plains of Weldry is about to begin.

Red stood at Nav Point Alpha, watching the friendly forces prepare for the battle. He had seen this job on the market, and accepted it. He was ordered to come here, and told of his assignment. Apparently, they were to repel raiders from this planet. Sounded fine to Red. Not much was happening in his life at the moment, and he needed a distraction. This was it. Plus, it would help to do some good. Red had his armor on, with his helmet under his arm. His red hair stood out among the throng of people and preparation, bringing some strange looks towards Red.

He heard a voice call him, and he turned to face the woman. She introduced herself as Lady Lyekova. Red gave a small salute "Nice to meet you Miss Lyekova, I'm Red. You obviously know I'm the mercenary that was recruited. Yes, I'm ready to head out." He replied. He was ready. Being physically and mentally created for combat and trained since birth to be the perfect soldier, Red was always ready. Plus, being a Jedi didn't hurt either. He wasn't like most Jedi, as he was a genetically created supersoldier made for killing, so he was fine with fighting.

"I'll be in the air, providing support, and I might switch to the ground. Anything else I need to know before we go?" He asked, but then she already jumped into her ship. She yelled something at Red. "You too! Good luck!" He replied before running off to his gunship. The other crew members were already getting inside, and the pilot was warming up the engines. Red spots another woman, also force-sensitive. Red gives her a salute. "Yes ma'am. We're ready to drop everything we've got on them." He told her before continuing on.

Red gets into the gunship, and the doors close behind him. He can feel the ship taking off. He looks out the viewport, watching as the gunship followed after the other starships towards the battlefield. Red climbs into the gunner seat. He flips on the weapons systems. Screens filled with information, data, and targeting data pop up, showing him everything he needs. "This is Gunship Gamma Two-Three, we're Oscar-Mike, moving towards the Hot-Zone with friendly forces, will provide air-to-ground support. Over and out." He said over the comms.

This was going to be an interesting day.

The supporting forces come over a tall ridge line and can now view Nav Point Beta in all it's glory.

An enemy base sits in the center of a pleasant grass valley. Sparse tree cover. It's concrete tarmac is surrounded by a giant permacrete wall. Three stories tall and thick as a building itself. On each of the four corners sits an observation tower crowned with a light turbolaser turret. Inside the base, the buildings are mostly prefabricated garrison housing. A few workshops, a number of vehicle bays, and two large warehouses used for Starfighter housing. At the center of the construct sits a spherical command center and giant radio tower. So aside from the giant amount of concrete used for roads and runways? Pretty basic stuff. It's mostly open space.

Six light tanks sit in the open field. Six more are scattered about the base's interior. A single squadron, half strength, is doing a flight drill overhead. No walkers or infantry vehicles in sight.

"Angel One. Objectives in sight. Weapons free. Engaging."

The Rangers X-Wings launch torpedoes at the turbolaser towers and then break off to engage the enemy Starfighters. Two of the four towers explode into a blaze of white fireworks. The enemy tanks dash to full speed and begin pocketing the descending hill with hard shells and laser fire.

Supporting forces engage with prejudice.

More enemy light vehilces begin to power up and dismount their hangers. Lining up along the enemy tarmac and striking their radios for orders.

But there is not enough of them. This looks to be an overwhelming victory.

~ "Enemy forces are calling for aid. Sat-feed shows enemy tanks, fighters, and speeders headed our way. ETA, three minutes." ~

"Angel One to supporting forces. Lets mop these boys up before their reinforcements arrive. And don't forget to but a hurtin' on that base."

The sky turns into an air skirmish as the Rangers engage the enemy fighters. On the ground, friendly forces are advancing under considerably diminishing firepower. The raiders are outnumbered and scrambling. This looks to be shooting fish in a barrel until their backup arrives.

Easy pickings.

The gunship flew along with the supporting forces. Red watched as the X-Wings begun the initial attack. The gunship flew into position over the base. "We're in position! Spin them up!" The pilot yelled. Red flipped a switch on his console, and watched as the heavy blaster rotaries started activating. Red locked them onto enemy forces, and started firing. Down below, enemy infantry was getting cut down by the heavy blaster fire, and they started scrambling for cover. Red then simultaneously fired multiple rockets down below, blowing up a large hole into the wall, hitting the hangar and other buildings, and striking enemy vehicles. Red activated the heavy cannon, and manually fired it onto the enemy vehicles.

"This is Gunship Gamma Two-Three; we are engaging enemy footmobiles and enemy armor, over." He said into the comms.

The battle became an absolute rout for the enemy forces. It wouldn't be long before the friendly force held complete control of the whole valley. Though, enemy reinforcements were still incoming.

Surprisingly, the collapse of one of the enemy force's hanger bays revealed the skeletal structure of an underground facility. Which was odd given that the rest of this base appeared to be new construction using only rapid prefabs and orbital drop structures.

A single friendly jet bike speed over to the collapse and peered down the massive hole,

~ "All units. This is Ranger Bike Six. We've got structures underground. Requesting infantry support to enemy hanger two. Repeat. We have structures underground. Requesting infantry support to enemy hanger two. Over." ~

A brunette female dismounted the bike and took off her helm. Samatharis of Rulan herself stood at the edge of the crater, peering down into the abyss.

"This was a utility elevator for moving walkers. Looks like they were storing something big down here or... Did they find something?"

She moved to the crumbled remains of the elevator's supports. Blown clear away from a precise hit from a friendly torpedo strike. Now it was just a looming hole in the ground.

"Hmm. I see flickering lights down there. They had power too. Yep. Better check it out."

She withdrew her service pistol and looked to the sky. Hopefully someone else would show up to help her clear the underground building.

Red continued to fire upon the remaining enemy forces, as the gunship flew around the base. He fired a missile, apparently hitting their munitions dump. Red watched as a large explosion came from the dump, as all of the ordnance ignited. The shock wave it produced flipped over enemy armor nearby and blew their infantry off of their feet. "Nice shot!" The pilot yelled. Red chuckled. "Copy that." He replied. He watched as the remaining enemy forces started scrambling.

Then Red heard a message over the comm channel. "Solid copy, Ranger Bike Six. This is Gunship Gamma Two-Three. We have ground support for you. Oscar-Mike, out." He said. The pilot brought the gunship to the ground. Red got out of the gunner seat and walked out of the gunship doors, along with the other infantry. Two squads of infantry filed out of the gunship towards Samatharis. Red approached her, pulling out his blaster rifle. "Ma'am, I have two squads, ready to go." He told her.

"Excellent."

The brunette woman smiled and looked over towards the east wall of the broken complex.

"There is some steel cable over there we can use to repel down into the underground floors. I'll need some help to free it."

Within moments, the squads had freed the cable and rigged up an improvised repel. They could now all reach the bottom of the blast hole.

"Ladies first." Sam winked at Red. Then she jumped down the hole without even so much as a sound.

A moment later, a faint voice could be heard. It sounded like an all clear. So the rest of the team followed suit.

Underground they were greeted with another spacious hanger area. Sadly, it was not possessed of any special equipment or vehicles. It was full of raw steel and building components. Mostly leftover parts from base construction.

"Damn. Nothing."

Sam walked across the wide open space as the lights flickered on and off overhead. The sounds of a battle roaring far, far away. The ceiling shaking more than the ground. Sadly. All they'd found was the enemies storage room. Cute.

"Okay. False alarm. This is just empty space. Let's head back top side and finish this fight. No reason to stick around."

Sam sounded rather embarrassed, or perhaps, frustrated. Usually these things turned out with more treasure at the end.

. . .

Moments later, everyone was top side again.

"Sorry about that." Sam walked over to Red to apologize. "Figured we were on to something big down there. Guess not."

The battle for the valley was already over and it was obvious for all to see too. The charred remains of the enemy force were smoking hot piles of metal. Scattered all across the tarmac and beyond.

Sam boarded her bike and slipped back on her helm. Then hit the radio,

~ "All units. This is Ranger Bike Six. Underground is clear. No hostiles." ~

~ "Roger Ranger Bike Six. Resume your traffic. We've got hostile reinforcements incoming." ~

Sam nodded on her bike and looked back at Red.

"Roger. Resuming traffic."

She pointed to the north with a nod. More bad guys were a coming. Guess the easy part was over. Now came the counter attack.

Speak of the devil. In that very moment four enemy speeder bikes came flying over the farthest ridge line. Followed shortly back four enemy fighters. Both of which quickly surmised how outnumbered they were and broke off. Coming around and retreating to the north.

~ "All units this is Angel One. Enemy forces are breaking away to the north. We are giving chase. Keep an eye out for those tanks people. Sat feed is still picking up enemy movement headed this way." ~

Looks like the enemy was balking. Turning tail already. Heh. Figures.

Sam hit the accelerator on her bike and gunned it out of the broken hanger bay wreckage. She didn't want to be late if there was more fighting to be had north of the valley.

Still. It was odd they hadn't seen the enemy tanks yet. Hopefully the satellites would pick them up again soon. She didn't like the idea of chasing the enemy force into an ambush. No matter how outnumbered the bad guys were.
