SETTING INFORMATION

[*]Affiliation: Bareesh Kajidic
[*]Accessibility: Save for the bazaar on Bootana Shagplan, they are all readily accessible.
[*]Security:

[*]Description: Each bazaar is an enormous converted warehouse. Vendors are allowed to set up shop inside after paying a fee to Bareesh. The interior is what one would expect from a former warehouse: a dull gray floor, ugly lighting, and a ceiling full of criss-crossing metal spars. Since weapons are freely trafficked inside the bazaar, people can enter with whatever weapons they want on their person. Consequently, the bazaars do not have nearly as many Bareesh guards present as at other locations. Just enough to make sure no one burns the place down. Those doing business in the bazaar know this and frequently bring their own protection. As a result, there is usually enough firepower floating around inside these bazaars to act as a deterrent against provoking violence for all but the dumbest wermos. Some have described the bazaars as resembling "tent cities" on the inside. Interior decor varies from location to location, but in the elite Hutt-customers-only bazaar on Bootana Shagplan the warehouse floor has been redecorated with lavish rugs and carpets, enormous tapestries to hide the walls, and an expensive overhaul of the ceiling lights to give the warehouse soft, soothing illumination.
POINTS OF INTEREST

Each bazaar is slightly different in the layout, but the vendors tend to divide themselves into three distinct groups.

  • Arms Traders: Vendors offering exotic Tenloss knockoff disruptors and Merr-Sonn flame projectors are everywhere, as are the bulk merchants who come prepared to sell whole crates of weaponry and ordnance. These merchants of death typically arrive flanked by four or five bodyguards and several attendants to haul around the crates. Few people want to get on the wrong side of them.
  • Slave Market: Distinct from the other areas, the slave market typically has several large raised platforms where wares can be shown and generally operates by auction. There are less slavers than there are spice hockers or arms traders, but their slaves and guards tend to take up the most room.
  • Spice Hockers: Every variety of spice and intoxicant can be found in large quantities at the bazaars. The biggest customer base are smalltime gangs scattered throughout the nearby systems that cannot afford to run their own spice operations. Each will send a representative or two when they need to get their re-ups. Occasionally, core world cartels will visit to get large quantities of high quality glitterstim.
  • Bootana Shagplan: The Hutt-customers-only bazaar on Shagplan is different in that there is less of everything, but the quality of the contraband is leagues ahead of the other bazaars. Those vendors who consistently bring high quality goods to other bazaars will be selected to apply for a permit in the Bootana Shagplan Bazaar. These permits are highly sought after as the Hutts will pay outrageous sums for their fancies. Additionally, Gorba requires that any slave to be sold on Bootana Shagplan be equipped with a Thalassian security collar. The other kajidics are not sold on the idea of converted warehouses as free-for-all markets and many regard the young Gorba's system with disdain. As time goes on Gorba is confident that more of the Hutts living in the Bootana region will visit and partake.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

After reassessing the Bareesh's dwindling finances, Gorba knew he had to be innovative if he was going to pull the kajidic out of the red. Warehousing was productive, but it could not match the outrageously lucrative sums of the other kajidics' operations. The one thing Bareesh did have was real estate, but tearing down the warehouses and building new structures would cost credits Gorba didn't have. Instead, he converted several warehouses on key planets in Hutt Space into what he referred to as "grand bazaars."

Unlike the Pleasure Palaces, which are meant for wild vacations, these mega-warehouses exist to sell contraband in bulk to unscrupulous buyers. The sellers are all third parties who simply pay Gorba a portion of their revenue in exchange for a plot of space in the bazaar to set up a stall. Thus, in the unlikely event that the Law intervenes, the most Gorba stands to lose is a warehouse, the levying of a hefty fine, and flimsy conspiracy charges.
