Geographic features

Barafka is covered in frozen wastelands, with constant blizzards, ice shifts, and daytime temperatures reaching an average of -60 degrees at the equator, where all of the life (other then underground) dwells. The only habitale areas of Barafka are around it's many volcanic regions, where volcanoes, magma vents, and steam geysers cool the surrounding temperatures to a slightly more bearable temperature. Though, snow is a constant, and blizzards are still common.

Underground, Barafka has mazes of caves and giant empty lava tubes that form a huge system, where the majority of Maours and most of the Humans live, keeping warm in the much warmer caves of the planet. Though, most of the air in the cavern systems is mixed with volcanic gasses and ash from the many underground lava floes, which humans combat with giant air scrubbers, and Maours ombat with a unique respitory system.

Another common feature in the caves of Barafka, other then the mineral-rich magma that flows in subterranean lakes and rivers, are extensive mines of precious gems, such as Diamonds, and small dimly glowing orange gems dubbed Barafkan Rubies.

Culture

The dominant species on Barafka, though not it's native species, are the humans, who run the Barafkan Districts; the primary goverment of the planet. The Barafkan Districts is ran by a president, who stays in office until his death or retirement. The current president, a cruel man often called a dictator, has been in office for fifty years. The Barafkan Districts consists of five extremely large and overcrowded cities, plus it's capital, named simply The Capital. As Barafka relies almost entirely on imports for foodstuff and day-to-day items, the goverment utilizes a strict rationing system, giving only enough food and supplies to each family for survival. Electricity is often unruly in most residential areas of the Barafkan Districts, and most of teh homes and non-govermental or mining buildings horrily underkept. One could say the entire nation, other then The Capital, is a slums. In general, the citizens of The Barafkan Districts are kept from rioting and rebellion only by hit squads and 'riot police' that patrol the streets at all time, quick to seize and publicily torture any citizens who the President, or each cities' governers, decide step out of line. Minimal wages are slim-to-nill, and only the most important workers (administrators, politicians, etc) get anything more then that, leading most of the nation to poverty. Over all, the nation is as depressed as it is backwards.

However, the strict rationing has given birth to a blooming black market, ecspecially in the spaceport city of Raum, which constantly moves and haas been avoiding punishment from the goverment ever since The Barafkan Districts were founded.

Notable Locations
The Capital
The Capital is the massive underground capital of The Barafkan Districts. The large and overcrowded city is packed in a massive underground cavern, with massive durasteel braces striping the walls and ceiling, ensuring that a disastorous cave-in never occurs. Massive high powere air scrubbers are located on every block, removing the volcanic ash and gasses from the air to make it breathable for the citizens. In the center of The Capital is the President's Mansion, the nerve center of The Barafkan Districts. The Capital is the happiest of the cities on Barafka, making riots and crimes less frequent there then the other cities.

Raum
Raum is the first and second largest human city on Barafka, one of the two located on the surface rather then in the cavern systems below. The spaceport is located near Mount Raum, kept warm enough for survival. a warm -22c on average. Raum is argueably one of the busiest cities on Barafka, however, as it the only spaceport that suppliesm foodstuff, technology, and day-to-day items to every city on the planet. Raum also has a booming black market, due to both it's place as the only spacceport ont he planet, and it's goverment's strict rationing system.

Raute
The largest mining city of Barafka, located underground near the most abundant discovered source of Barafkan Rubies. Raute is not equiped with air scrubbers, causing it's inhabitantsto don breath masks at all times, ecpecially when going out into the caverns to mine the rubies. The miners typically use low-tech mining equipment, such as drills and pickaxes, and accidents are common. The miners are typically heavily underpayed, like most of the workers in the various cities of Barafka, enforcing poverty.

Fordern
The smallest subterranean city on Barafka, Fordern's main purpose is to harvest the diamonds common throughout the cavern systems of Barafka. Much like Raute accidents are common, and the miners are payed minimal wages.

Das
Das is a moderately sized town located near a massive underground magma lake, employing it's people to work facilities around the shores of the lake which sift the lava for the rare minerals, such as Mirkanite, and ship the ore to Raum, for export. The extreme heat that wracks the city causes those few who to afford it to often don enviromental suits. Though the temperatures are surviveable, heat-related sicknesses are common, and the lava miners who work the processing plants are often killed either by the heat, or the all to common accidents.

Kerker
Kerker is the newest settlement on Barafka, built during the reign of the current president, and the second settllement on the surface of Barafka. It's miain purpose is to serve as a prison for any and all that defies the president or the town's governers in any way that public torture will not solve. It is located far from any known enterences to the subterranean cave systems, on the other side of the planet from Raum. Those who work for the prison, amdinistrators, guards, and the like, live in a series of buildings surroundedby a massive dome, heated to be survivable. The prisoners, however, are kept out in an area dubbed 'The Yard'. Which is basically a massive area of several miles fenced off by an electrified fence, with guard droids stationed every few meters. The Yard is equiped with dozens of shed-like structures, without heat, or running water, which serve as the 'houses' of the inmates. The prisoners sent to Kerker have never been knownt o last more then a month in the frigid temperatures. The 'rules' of the prison however, are not strict. The only enforced rules are do not attempt to enter the dome, do not attack the guards, and do not attempt escape. Any of these warrant the prisoner being shot on sight. Other then that, want to murder another prisoner? Go for it.

Mount Viku
The largest surface Volcano on Barafka, home to a great many Vota Maours.

Mount Rauk
The second largest Volcano on Barafka, not far from Kerker.

Eldu lava fields
A huge area, several kms, of Barafka with violent volcanic eruptions, steam vents, and small volcanoes.
