Appearance:
Always a shirt and suit. Black hair, combed ready for the boardroom. The suits he wears are of course armorweave or better, and there is usually a weapon of some kind on his person. He has a cybernetic right arm that is often upgraded or engineered for the situation. Fairly tall and toned, he usually has a light well-trimmed beard and eyes that look like they are reading everything you say. There is a slight cybernetic quality to his right eye, which has also been enhanced.
Biography before Roleplaying
Interested in cybernetics and robotics from an early age, Balen spent his youth designing and refining droids, first as a hobby, later for small independent corps. A love child of the Nayus and Black families, he grew up as the proverbial black sheep, caught between two rival dynasties that competed fiercely in the industrial and technological sectors. From both, he learned the value of precision, ambition, and control. By his twenties, he had secured an executive position within his father's company, where his natural efficiency and strategic mind set him apart.
Rising quickly through the ranks, he expanded into the recycling and maintenance industry, finding unexpected fortune in the galaxy's discarded machinery. Cleaning up orbital debris and salvaging war wreckage proved far more profitable than most realized. His company, Apex Industrial, built a reputation for reclaiming, repurposing, and reconstructing, even its workforce often assembled from what it recycled. Nothing was wasted; efficiency was everything.
Operating in the shadow of the Core's mega-corporations, Apex thrived among the syndicates and independents of the Outer Rim. Competition with the Hutts, Fire For Effect, and the Uos Family was fierce, with the Pyke Syndicate also vying for control of lucrative contracts. Even a recent bank acquisition under Apex's name remains heavily disputed.
In recent years, Mr. Black's relentless focus has turned toward something far more personal, his daughter. Stricken by a rare and mutagenic disease known as the Terminus Virus, she remains in stasis as he exhausts every resource and contact in his search for a cure. While others seek profit, he now chases the one thing money cannot buy: time.
Chapter 1
Through shrewd acquisitions and calculated maneuvering amid the rise and fall of galactic powers, Mr. Black's ascent has continued, though never uncontested. He remains locked in long-standing competition for control of Apex Holdings with Tadietti Tann, Goros the Hutt, and several Uos interests. The shifting fortunes of the Hutt Cartel have brought both opportunities and threats to his expanding power base. For a time, Darkwire proved a persistent obstacle on Denon, but their decline has left a void now filled by growing corporate dominance. Apex Industrial stands well-positioned to capitalize, its private security divisions expanding across the Rim or core city worlds, in some zones or regions, rivaling local law enforcement in scale and authority.
