Away from Their Eyes

Eria Pechal was a charming little world and she meant that in the least posh way imaginable.

Yula was fond of traveling and had been exposed to all sorts of different environments both with her family and on her own. To say that she had the traveling bug would be an understatement, but it was born out of simple curiosity a need to know the galaxy around her. Odd-jobbing didn’t pay much, but it left her with enough credits to make her way. And if it didn’t, well…her mother would be upset at the amount of times she’d slept on a spaceport floor. Didn’t bother Yula much.

She sat on the steps of the temple, a structure of stone and wood built recently by the Jedi Praxum. There wasn’t much going on for her right now, but that was alright—just watching the younglings play with the native children was enough for her. This world was calm, shrouded in jungle and hidden away from the eyes of hungry empires eager to expand their galactic holdings. Hopefully it would stay that way.

Yula had heard of them through something of a grapevine. Her mother had worn the title of Jedi long ago and spoke fondly of the experiences and adventures she’d had, conveniently leaving out some of her darker struggles. While her mother had also been a good teacher, Yula was eager to meet others who were walking along the same path.

At a moderate pace, she traversed the halls of the temple. For the most part she was taking some time off...

It wasn't because she wanted to; she'd rather be out in the field. But, she still couldn't quite move completely past the events on Commenor. With each step she subconsciously reminded herself it that she could do this. Seeing Veiere opened the flood gates of everything she'd been holding back, and this time she fully aware of the fact that she was exhausting herself.

Coren helped shield from some of that but...

When he wasn't around it was all up to her.

Just ahead a few steps she could see the light cutting into the building, walking into the thick of the air full on she turned to look before crossing over to the other side. Whereas she'd known children would be out and about due to hearing them, there was someone else.

Backtracking a couple of steps, she peeked around the corner to realize the silhouette. She knew it was a young woman but...she didn't know her at all.

Taking to the steps she descended until she met her mark, and sat beside her. "Moments like this just...they help you learn that there's space to be alright away from all the hustle and bustle." she mused.

"I don't think we've met, I'm Romi Jade."

The sound of footsteps echoed softly through the temple hall and pricked at Yula’s attention. Her head tilted to the side, turning just slightly to welcome the form of another woman descending the steps to meet her. Light skin, high cheekbones, blonde hair. A pretty face. A kindly one too.

“Let’s hope it stays that way.” She smiled warmly, eyes drifting back to the children as they frolicked. It was reminiscent of her and her brother when they were kids—and even now, sometimes. Like most siblings, they bickered at almost every turn. Luckily, none of the younglings were calling for mom to break things up.

Yula never minded the fast paced life of urban living, but she never liked to stay in one place for too long. Silence could be just as comforting as the background noise of an urban environment, at least for her.

“Yula Perl.” She offered her name in turn. “It’s nice to meet you, Romi Jade. I’m new to the Praxeum so it’s good to finally make contact with someone who isn’t half my age.” Her tone held a bit of genuine humor as one of the native children kicked a ball high into the air, leaving the others in awe.

Hehehe

"Right?" She'd casually agree before whipping back around for a rather quick glance at the children; Could she think back that long?

She nodded, a way to to welcome her. She was glad that sanctuaries likes this existed still. The Deneba Enclave laid in ruins now, destroyed by its founder. She'd always wondered what would be next? Where others could go for this....

The Praxeum was like a saving grace...probably the only institution of Jedi learning on this side of the Galaxy. She broke out into laughter in response to her mentioning age. "Oh tell me about it..." she rolled her eyes. Though really most of the members weren't entirely too old; she hadn't thought about it till now.

"Well Welcome Yula." She lurched in, "Where did you travel from?"

She was just curious, hoping that her inquiring nature didn't make her feel uncomfortable. Sometimes origin stories weren't all that great.

It wasn’t that Yula had any dislike of children—in fact, she loved babysitting. They were energetic and had such creative minds, often thinking outside the box. Still, it was nice to have a mix of different types around.

“Thank you.” She smiled. “I’m from Zeltros.” Yula tapped a finger against her jaw as if to indicate her faintly rose colored skin. Not exactly Zeltron, but diluted blood for sure. “Not exactly a pureblood, but you get the picture.”

It would make more sense if they were on Zeltros, probably. Some people thought that she was just constantly blushing or had spent too much time out in the sun.

“What about you, Romi? What’s your story?” The expression on Yula's face as she placed her hands on the steps behind her and reclined said that she didn't mind if Romi chose to answer the question as vaguely or as in depth as she preferred.

So far she’d learned that not everyone in the galaxy had been as fortunate as her.
