Height173 cm | 5'8"
Weight56 kg | 125 lbs

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Avani has warm, medium-brown skin, large, dark brown eyes, set under shapely brown eyebrows that amplify the expressiveness of her eyes. She has high cheekbones, a straight-bridged nose with a softly rounded, slightly-upturned tip, full lips and a well-shaped jaw. Her hair is thick and dark brown, sometimes appearing black in dimmer light or wintertime. She wears it in various ways depending on the needs of the day, often braided while on duty. She has a lean, shapely build with a defined waist, full hips, and strong shoulders and arms. Her posture is upright without looking stiff. Years of fencing and Jedi training show in the way she moves: economical with movement and comfortable occupying space.

She has some scars, including one on her left hand, often indistinguishable from a regular line across her palm, and a minor burn scar on her lower right hip.

Avani enjoys clothing. Her field wardrobe is fitted for movement: practical layers, leggings or trousers, sturdy boots, and satchels to carry what she needs. Her social wardrobe is extensive and chosen with equal care. She knows how to dress for a family gathering, a Jedi mission, a Naboo social event, or an Order symposium. She is a bit of a clotheshorse, a fascination that extends to shoes and accessories as well. Becoming a Jedi has not cured her of appreciating beautiful things.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Avani is sociable because she genuinely likes people. She enjoys a crowded room, good clothes, dancing, lively conversation, making friends, connecting people with other people, the whole nine yards. She is a good listener, a supportive friend, and a solutions-oriented person. She is opinionated in conversation, decisive in combat, and accountable in both instances. Avani is not above using her family's name and connections in service of a good cause.

Her upbringing taught her noblesse oblige -- the concept that privilege carries obligations. She has applied this also to her gift of the Force; she is dedicated to using her privileges to serve others. She believes in public service and understands why her family is proud of its history. Avani also believes strongly that her Jedi work is a respectable vocation -- not simply something she is doing to pass the time, no matter what her mother believes. She has no objection to love, relationships, or marriage, but she rankles at her mother's apparent belief that marriage is the point at which her real life really begins.

Sela Basran's teaching has shaped Avani in a meaningful way, not least of all in her approach to mentoring the next generation of Jedi. Her intention is to let her Padawan make safe, repairable mistakes and then help them understand what happened and why. Her questions with peers or superior become less generous when she is sure she is correct.

Avani enjoys spicy food, games, and good strong tea. She dislikes jellied meats -- though her mother insists that no cocktail party menu is complete without some sort of aspic canapé -- overly sweet drinks, and any vegetable that gets slimy when cooked.

STRENGTHS
Social Observation:
she notices who has been left out, who is struggling, and when manners begin to cover over anger. She can seek to make people comfortable without seeming to exert a lot of energy doing so.
Decisiveness: Avani can choose a course of action under pressure and revisit the choice later, when it's safe. She is not shy about taking responsibility for her choices, whether they turn out well or not.
Discipline: she maintains her training gear carefully and puts sustained work into skills that matter to her. The years she spent adapting to the condition of her hand required extensive patience and discipline.
Protective: when she is responsible for someone (or has decided she is) Avani is very good at keeping track of them, and is good at trying to give people what they need in terms of support when she can.
Accomplished Fencer: the result of her upbringing; all of her siblings were taught by her father, and she was no exception, from the time she was old enough to walk.

WEAKNESSES
Class Blindness:
polish and confidence can make Avani assume competence too quickly, and may give a well-connected person more benefit of the doubt than she would extend to someone with similar knowledge but fewer social advantages.
Competitive: a harmless habit when deployed at home with her siblings, it becomes something that encourages recklessness at some times when deployed in the field.
Weak Left Hand: after a severe infection that led to a long illness, Avani recovered except for her left hand. She has a weakness in the grip of her left hand that develops after repeated use. She has adapted as much as possible to the lack of dexterity in her hand, but it still irritates her and limits her somewhat.
Bacta Allergy: Avani has a severe allergy to bacta, which makes recovery from injury a challenge.
Impatience:
primarily -- but not exclusively -- of her mother's antics.

HISTORY
Lady Avani Indira Caedran is the second of five children. House Caedran was an influential aristocratic house on its original homeworld before the world was absorbed into the First Order. Their loyalty and utility in logistics earned her parents spots in Project Renascence, and both her parents now hold seats in the House of Lords -- her mother as Countess in her own right; her father as a life peer. The family own a large country estate on Aegis called The Larches, a beautiful townhome (read: mansion) in the a fashionable district of New Sterandel that the family use when the Lords is in session, and an opulent lake house on Eos the family call 'the cottage.'

Avani is the first known member of either of her parents' families to exhibit Force sensitivity. She was tested for it at age six and entered the New Jedi Order temple training at seven. She became Sela Basran's padawan at thirteen. Sela shaped much of the Jedi Avani became; she asked questions and made Avani account for her decisions and allowed her to make mistakes when she could put them right. Avani deeply admired Sela, despite often finding her exasperating (and nosey). She learned much of Sela's Socratic approach, and became bold enough to object more the older she got. They can now disagree openly, though respectfully, and Sela's criticisms will stay with Avani longer than she likes to admit.

At seventeen, Avani suffered an injury during a mission with Sela to her left hand. The cut resulted in a serious local infection which was not treated timely enough due to the bacta allergy that was discovered during the ordeal, and which complicated her recovery. The infection resulted in a pervasive infection and illness that interrupted her training for several months. The rest of her strength resumed more readily than the use of her left hand. For a long while, she treated each improvement as evidence that full recovery was still coming. Try as she might to conceal how quickly her left hand tired out, eventually it became apparent that it would not fully recover the way the rest of her health had. Over the years, Avani came to terms with the limitations of her condition, adjusting her practice and making decisions based on what it could do.

Sela Basran left the New Jedi Order when Avani was around twenty. The two women discussed the reasons for the change, and Avani agreed with Sela, thus following her to Naboo to join the Shirayan Jedi Order. She was knighted some few years later, approximately six months prior to the beginning of play. She has been considering how best to approach her new role, with her former master Sela counseling her to consider teaching or taking a padawan or both.

Avani's knighthood has not stopped her mother from attempting to set her up with some eligible bachelors whenever she returns to Aegis for visits. Avani finds this very annoying. She maintains a close relationship with her parents and her siblings, particularly her elder sister.
