OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Information on a common type of flora that naturally exists on Falmoora.
  • Image Credit: Elder Scrolls V Skyrim (from game itself or art inspired by it)
  • Images:
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Batva
GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Name: Aursklk (Glowing Stalks in Basic)
  • Origins: Batva’s Underground
  • Other Locations: N/A
  • Classification: Fungi
  • Average Growth Cycle: Takes about as long as the average tree (100 years to grow to maximum height) however, it lives for over thousands of years if not cut down, or disturbed.
  • Viability: These do not require sunlight, but rather heat and moisture, to survive. Their bioluminescence is reflective of how the fungus itself reacts to the minerals in the Batvadan water. Like most fungi, it requires a steady source of water (be it a local stream, lake, or humidity). Also, like most fungi, this species does not respond well to sunlight, and does not require much of any soil. In fact, it usually sprouts from pure rock that has just been subject to a lot of heat and humidity, or is nearby a stream or lake on Batva. No specimens have left Batva currently, and so it is unclear what care requirements would be in captivity. What is assumed is the proper care required of any subterranean fungus that requires steady, and high, humidity and-or much access to water sources. With current knowledge, this plant could survive for over 1,000 years if left undisturbed (as in cut down or water source is disrupted), and so with assumptions that proper care for this plant is done, that life span could be extended slightly. There is not much to harvest from this though, as it is a giant fungus. However, when ripped from the ground, it could remain fresh for a matter of 7 days.
  • Description: A giant, glowing mushroom with bioluminescent tendrils that come down from its cap. Grows to about the size of large trees, and provide some light with their glowing parts due to taking in minerals from local water and those minerals reacting with the fibers of the fungus.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: Varies: sprouts tend to be about .25 meters tall, saplings tend to be about 2 meters tall, and full grown ones have been known to reach over 15-40 meters tall.
  • Average Length: Diameter of caps can range between about .10 meters for sprouts, 1.5 meters for saplings, and full grown ones have been averaged to have about 10-30 meters in diameter. Stalks are much thinner than the caps, and width may vary depending on the specimen.
  • Color: Primarily a greyish blue, however parts that are bioluminescent glow in a light blue or teal color rather brightly depending on the types of minerals a given specimen soaks up. A rare variety have been able to have the bioluminescence glow a purpleish-blue on a few streams in Batva's Underground as well. However, a very specific mineral combination allows for such coloration of bioluminescence to happen.
  • Toxicity: Like most fungi, it is toxic to eat, however it does not have poisonous spores that get released into the air, and touching it is harmless as well.
  • Other Effects: If it is touched, no effect takes place. No poisonous particles/spores get released into the air. It does cause major indigestion to any creature that eats it, unless that creature has one of the hardiest digestion systems in the galaxy which would only give it a mild stomach ache.
  • Distinctions: It is a tall, glowing mushroom the size of a tree that grows across Batva’s Underground region. Glowing tendrils come down from the cap in many cases. Also, if a specimen grows big enough, stalks of smaller mushroom caps might sprout from the main stalk.
Strengths:
  • Not consumed by any creatures on Batva.
  • As a fungus it can grow in almost any soil condition as long as there is enough moisture in either the air or the local ground area.
  • Spreads quickly.
  • Does not require sunlight, but instead geothermal heat (and not much geothermal heat).
Weaknesses:
  • Not widespread; only found on Batva.
  • Sunlight makes it wilt like most fungus.
  • Mostly adapted to subterranean Batva, and would not likely survive in the environment of other planets.
  • Provides no resources.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
For as long as Batva has existed, these tall fungi have grown in the Underground. It began as a small type of fungus, but for unknown reasons of evolution it grew to the size of a tree. Today various glowing forests of this fungi, and others like it but smaller, dot the Underground of Batva. It adds an eerily beautiful aesthetic to the vast cave networks that run beneath the scorched surface of the world.

Niransh Binzra Heyo! So sorry for the delay in reviewing this. I really like this sub. Haven't read a lot of flora subs, but this is cool and very in-depth which I always appreciate. Paints a very full picture for the readers. Only one thing we need to address!

  1. Can you please link Falmoora here. Even in pre-codex, having a link trail is always best as it makes it easier to go back and forth for everyone. You can just put that link under the links section. :D

Noted. Will do. I am going to be adjusting names though because of the species that live on the planet are renamed. I'll let you know when all it done. I'll put the link in now though.
