SPECIAL FEATURES
- Powered Armor - Basically an organic powered armor, the Charon battle armor enhances Ivlyn’s capabilities to beyond what she is normally capable of. It is no better than what other heavy powered armors are capable of producing, however. It allows her to lift about 4 times what she normally can.
- Brain-brain-computer Interface - The Charon armor allows Ivlyn to interface with technology, allowing her to more easily access it, or to slice things without having to carry the equipment for it. It has the same downsides as other brain-computer interfaces in that area; feedback and security systems can be harmful. However, that’s more likely to damage the armor than Ivlyn. The armor connects to Ivlyn’s mind and her central nervous system, allowing her to communicate with its ‘brain’. This is part of how Ivlyn achieved getting the armor to agree to letting her wear it; she wasn’t even compatible before, not possessing the Charon physiology necessary to communicate. This also includes a holonet connection.
- Shaping - The most unique part of the Charon battle armor is that it is capable of shaping itself to form weapons. Its capabilities range from poisonous throwing needles (Thanatos can secrete a lethal poison), to a grappling hook, to a sword. This also allows the armor to reseal itself, and augmentations even allow for the creation of ‘food’ and ‘drink’ for the one wearing the armor before injecting it, allowing Ivlyn to stay active in the shield.
- HUD - This pretty much does what you’d think a HUD would let you do. It lets you view damaged systems, view what is going on with the brain-computer interface, see sensor readings, easily highlight targets, use the rangefinder, and to access the armor’s higher functions more easily.
- Viewing Lamp - The armor possesses the capability to form a high-powered lamp thanks to its shaping capabilities, and a few augmentations. The viewing lamp serves to allow Ivlyn to light up dark areas, such as for searches.
- Sensors - Medical sensors, sensors that allow material identification, sensors that allow facial and speech identification, and similar systems allow a full sensor suite to handle battle loads, and Ivlyn’s needs as a scientist.
- Biotech Tracker - Even when physically hiding, Ivlyn’s biotech sensor gives her the capacity to find and mark those hiding behind walls, and such.
- Environmental Adaptation (elemental resistance) - The Charon battle armor allows Ivlyn to survive in space and underwater, as well as other extreme environments, much like certain suits that are designed for those things. It has its limits. Too much pressure, too much heat, and Ivlyn will die alongside with her armor. Swimming in lava probably isn’t a great idea. It creates oxygen and a safe, thermoregulated environment that is further aided by thermal shielding, however, so all’s good.
- Propulsion System - Underwater or in space, Ivlyn will find herself able to move as fast as a humanoid race adjusted to underwater travel, and have the ability to perform spacewalks, largely thanks to thrusters that the battle armor forms. This doesn’t currently aid her inside a normal environment. (Analogous to a jetpack that functions outside of the atmosphere)
- Attachment Roots - Bioengineered attachment roots allow Ivlyn to attach to just about any surface, letting her walk on a starship’s walls, or adhere to someone with extra gusto in a grip.
- Wound Compression - If she is wounded, the armor will compress and fill the wound, though it doesn’t actually heal her itself. This is a temporary measure that will end once the armor has been removed. Unless Ivlyn decides to forego bathing, and other such things, she will still need surgeries for most wounds. Essentially, this just stops the bleeding and lets her keep fighting; the pain and damage will still be there.
- Lightfoil Storage - Ivlyn is able to store her lightfoils at the thighs, and her smallest lightfoils in her right gauntlet where the small ones can be used as a cutting blade extension of the armor, or even launched out so that Ivlyn can use them in telekinetic lightsaber combat.
- Blaster Tech - A particle beam blaster and a plasma disruptor can be found in the Charon battle armor, similarly to the blaster able to be found in other armors. The PBB is in the left gauntlet while the plasma disruptor is on the right. They are standard equipment, albeit a bit heavy. As usual with weapons of its type, the plasma disruptor is for anti-droid duty and is incapable of doing harm to organic organisms.
Strengths:
- Highly resistant to blasters and slugthrowers, allowing it to take more than a few hits. Heavy armor is capable of handling plenty. Charon battle armor can withstand around 8 shots shots from blaster carbines, though heavier rifles will be capable of downing Thanatos and Ivlyn far faster. So, high for something of its type and composition. For those areas not protected by Phrik, Charon battle armor is more durable than durasteel, and on a scale of 1 to 10 - 1 being normal cloth and 10 being full beskar - it is probably a 6 or 7. It can handle more than a few hits from slugthrowers.
- Lightsaber Stuffs - The Charon battle armor is more durable than durasteel, but it has no legitimate resistance that would stop the lightsabers from doing too much harm. It can handle several glancing strikes, or a little more than a few direct strikes, but the shock from that will damage the organism to the point that it can be far more easily harmed. For those areas not protected by Phrik, one or two glancing strikes and a single direct strike will do the job.
As a life form, Charon battle armor can be quite adaptable.

As usual with weapons of its type, the plasma disruptor is for anti-droid duty and is incapable of doing harm to organic organisms. Please note: Ivlyn is a horrible shot at the moment. She can barely hit a moving target with a normal blaster, much less one attached to her armor.
- Attachment Roots - Bioengineered attachment roots allow Ivlyn to attach to just about any surface, letting her walk on a starship’s walls, or adhere to someone with extra gusto in a grip.
- Sonic technology will not harm the Charon battle armor, as it has nothing to be harmed by it. However, Ivlyn is not immune to it. If sonic attacks are sensed, the Charon armor’s protectiveness for its wearer kicks in, and it will block off Ivlyn’s ability to hear, which is one of the only things that can be targeted by your average sonic weapon while she is wearing the armor. Imagine how helpful that is.
Weaknesses & Limitations:
- Biological - Despite how modified it has been, the Charon battle armor is still very much a biological organism. Though it can survive in a wide variety of environments, and allow its wearer to, the battle armor is vulnerable to things that all biological organisms are vulnerable to. It can contract illnesses - something Charon foes could use against them, forcing them to make changes throughout their culture thanks to their use of bioengineered technology - and it can die… permanently, with no chance of repair. This is probably the most important weakness, since it is a defining trait that separates it from your usual, every day armors. Additionally, please remember that the battle armor may be organic but has systems that are largely just bioengineered versions of other things that can be created by the art of science.
- Poison - The most dangerous poisons will dampen armor efficiency by 25% and 50% in all areas.
- Juice - While most of the technology on the armor is powered by biological mechanisms, the plasma disruptor and particle beam blaster are more of a combo thanks to being prototypes. They require the use of a power pack and gas pack, and once these things are out Ivlyn is probably out of luck since she only carries one additional power pack and gas pack. These two things also draw from the same, dual packaged source, to save space. That means that a good shot can take out one part of the power pack/gas pack, and thus require it to be replaced.
- Incendiary Rounds - Incendiary rounds can ignite the gas in the dual power pack/gas pack.
- User Damaging - Between her cybernetics, and the Charon armor’s capabilities to enhance her strength even further, Ivlyn’s body will certainly be damaged should she push her Charon armor and herself to its maximum. Should she find herself in a situation where she needs to enhance herself past four times what she is capable of, the effects will likely cause muscle damage and require rest as well as medically-necessary recovery. On top of that, Ivlyn will find herself in excruciating pain should she reach the maximum of six times. Why? Thanatos will start to constrict, and dig into Ivlyn, which requires more recovery, and maybe even surgery should the use last too long.
- Half an hour - Thanatos is capable of functioning at full capacity underwater or in space for half an hour. The oxygen supply will need to be replenished by “feeding” Thanatos after an hour. After half an hour, Ivlyn will swim below the normal speed for her species, thanks to Thanatos’ weight. In seas made out of substances lighter than water, she might even find herself sinking.
- Stretching - When creating a dart or a grappling hook, Thanatos is only replicating a small amount of itself compared to the use of already existing material. That means that when this is done, it takes away material from somewhere else. If Ivlyn thought she could create an infinite amount of darts, for example, Thanatos would be destroyed. Completely. That’s why Ivlyn must be careful. Thankfully, after 24 hours Thanatos will be able to replenish itself.
- Ionic Interference - The Charon battle armor is vulnerable to ionic interference, which doesn’t completely stop functioning due to it being more organic than it is inorganic, but can cause problems. Ionic weaponry is capable of causing a shutdown of what is deemed ‘higher functions’. Higher functions include the HUD, which will be reduced to a standard viewer that makes controlling the battle armor much more difficult and also causes problems across the board in general, non-biological sensors (anything beyond the biotech tracker, including biomedical sensors, and everything else), the brain-to-computer interface, lowers maximum strength enhancement to two times what Ivlyn is normally capable of, and, most importantly, removes much of the shaping capacity. Only simpler things can be formed, and they take longer to form; dart launchers are impossible to create, and it takes several seconds to form a sword. There is a recovery period. Like all biological organisms, Thanatos needs to heal.
- Force Lightning - Thanatos is a living organism. Force lightning can be detrimental to its safety.
- Shock/Battle Inexperience - Shock from damage can cause the Charon battle armor to lose some of its capabilities. Without additional protection, one or two strikes from a lightsaber or a single direct will cause the armor to go into shock, and feel so much fear that it can be damaged more easily. This does not mean that all forms of damage will cause this to happen. The lightsaber is something that Ivlyn is intimately familiar with, seeing as how she wields lightfoils. The armor knows this. Her knowledge only fuels its fear. Thanatos is not a battle experienced organism, nor a hyperintelligent or even logical one. It does things like blocking off Ivlyn’s hearing when sonic weapons come into play, and puts itself and Ivlyn in harm’s way if touches by a lightsaber. When more battle experience is achieved, this will become more subdued, but until then Ivlyn’s only hope is to get into fights, which are where Thanatos is most likely to fail. Heavier ion weapons can completely disable the Charon battle armor, and leave Ivlyn incapable of responding to the threat.
- Sonic Tech - If sonic attacks are sensed, the Charon armor’s protectiveness for its wearer kicks in, and it will block off Ivlyn’s ability to hear, which is one of the only things that can be targeted by your average sonic weapon while she is wearing the armor. Imagine how helpful that is. She’s in the middle of a fight, and now she suddenly is unable to hear. It may keep her brain from being vibrated into soup, but it achieves pretty much the same effect. So, above average in some areas, below average in others. "Why did you block off my hearing, bud? Oh, a sonic weapon? So you stopped it from boiling my brain, but did the same thing it would do... nice going." - A quote from Ivlyn that ended in sarcasm. Thanatos may have a direct line to Ivlyn’s mind, but it (or he, as Ivlyn likes to say) doesn’t understand sarcasm.
In-Betweens:
- Sonic technology will not harm the Charon battle armor, as it has nothing to be harmed by it. However, Ivlyn is not immune to it.
Thanatos came into Ivlyn’s possession about 6 years ago. One of the first Charon explorers to venture from his or her home ended up in Tapani space. Intrigued, and unable to fend off her impulses, Ivlyn led a strategic strike of Mecrosa Order members against their starship, and made the first kill of a Charon in Tapani space. The Charon explorer’s technology is still being researched by the Tapani Federation and the Arkanians, but Ivlyn took into her personal possession some organic armor that would come to be one of the greatest weapons in her arsenal. It took about a year to figure out how to properly modify and then get “him” (Thanatos) to agree to allow Ivlyn to wear “him”. Once she figured out how to shape it to herself, Thanatos came into full play in all of Ivlyn’s missions; thankfully, she often changed its appearance enough that no one could tell it was her underneath that thing. However, there are whispers of something or someone that takes on a more… dangerous and demonic appearance of black and crimson, with blades that do such fine work it is almost as though a surgeon is wielding the sword.
While worn, Thanatos acts as the biological version of a powered armor, and is more like a protective, adaptive shell than most armors are. For example, at times Ivlyn will need to go underwater to perform her missions, and Thanatos allows her to do so. The unfortunate part is that Ivlyn will have an advantage over those that are giving her pursuit. She is incapable of propelling herself in the normal atmosphere, but in space and water? Unless someone else has similar armor, or is one of those insane underwater Jedi that give problems for anyone in the sea they might not have the best time changing from environment to environment. People from ocean-dwelling races will have a clear advantage over Ivlyn; they have more experience with underwater navigation, and combat underwater is different. Ivlyn is not capable of magically developing new skills that would put her on par with individuals who are evolutionarily inclined to be superior to her in that area, no matter how much technology she has.
Thanatos allows Ivlyn to interface with technology through the brain-computer interface, allowing her to more easily access it, or to slice things without having to carry the equipment for it.
Lacking a jump servo, the armor doesn’t allow Ivlyn to shore up an area that would, if developed or enhanced, prevent a lethal disadvantage against other Force users from showing itself. Without that range and speed added to her agility, problems might very well arise if she is facing a foe with superior agility or jumping skills. How is she supposed to catch a target that can jump five times further than her, and for hours longer? She can’t. After the target escapes, then she becomes the target. This means that she has to insure that she chooses an appropriate form of attack for her assassinations. Even a small mistake has this disadvantage doing damage.
The shaping is the best part about this armor, and is one of the primary functions of all Charon battle armor. Thanatos is able to allow the user to mold the limbs into weapons. It is part of the armor’s adaptability. Unfortunately, making a sword when you’ve lost your lightfoils and are fighting a Jedi Master probably won’t end very well, though if you’re fighting someone else it will even out the playing field… unless they have a heavy particle beam blaster, then you’re essentially screwed.
Despite how modified it has been, the Thanatos is still very much a biological organism.
[Superheated flame thrower removed for being completely unnecessary, just like the jump servo]
If Ivlyn is wounded, the armor will compress and fill the wound, though it doesn’t actually heal her itself. This is a temporary measure that will end once the armor has been removed. Unless Ivlyn decides to forego bathing, and other such things, she will still need surgeries for most wounds. Essentially, this just stops the bleeding and lets her keep fighting; the pain and damage will still be there.
Charon battle armor is a special piece of biotech that was created by the Charon, and cannot be replicated or otherwise acquired easily. For all intents and purposes, this piece of armor is currently unable to be replaced. The only way to replace it would be for Ivlyn to find another Charon, and execute them before stealing their armor (thankfully they’ve decided to venture from home a lot more lately, but the chance of it being as simple as the first time - when an unprepared Charon ship ended up in Tapani space - is practically zero), or for Ivlyn to break the ‘replication barrier’, which is her term for a problem that keeps her from creating another Charon battle armor. To make either of these problems go away, either temporarily, I will probably have to take official routes, like missions or write a thesis like you have to for AI. I’m not sure how it’d work, but something fun would be nice.
This organism is a sophisticated biological organism. Technically, it is capable of being modified to meet whatever needs you have, but, again, sophisticated biological organism. It’s not as easy to modify as a human, and is completely alien to most researchers. It took Ivlyn years to figure out how to modify it to the point she has, and about 6 months just for her to make it wearable and to like her. The armor also has problems. Specialized stealth paint could cause it to get sick. Biological is an important term here. You can’t just add any kind of technology you want. Adding phrik plates, for example, would have to occur after you made sure that the phrik plates wouldn’t harm the armor. And most technology? It’s a better bet just to try to find a way to allow her armor to replicate its traits as a piece of bioengineered tech, which takes work in a lab. Ivlyn is a skilled scientist with access to very well equipped laboratories and plenty of funding. If you have those resources, then you have a start. If not, find someone who does, and even then you might be out of luck, especially since the price would be pretty high.
