The same could be said for any that have alts in other factions, if you are going to go down that route. There wouldn't be many writers involved if we had to keep all of them strictly in one faction and that's it.

I don't think it's fair to blame Ali's writer for all of this when it wasn't their intention at all. Ali is a scapegoat. I see no problem with an alt being used as we'd want anyone vying for the position to have good experience and knowledge of it. I wouldn't throw my own hat in because I lack it. Heck I had a tough enough time just trying to be an FA and FO at the same time while my character basically got the boot from the Republic.

There are lots of writers that I trust and some that I don't. But Ali's is one of the ones that I trust and enjoy writing with :)

I personally think it's a good idea to have some new blood in just to give different people a chance at a role they maybe had eyed for a while but weren't gutsy enough to step up and take until now, but that's just me. Nothing against anyone personally, it just seems fair. I know for a fact [member="Ali Hadrix"] is a good writer and great OOC from my experience, but those are just my two cents. Take it and leave it as you will.

It genuinely has been fun. I've enjoyed taking Martika's genuine personal concerns and having to assert them in a measurable and objective manner. I hope it hasn't been to bothersome OOC.
Not in the least, its been awesome having Alexander be himself as he stands there trying to return to the Republic.

Its really not crumbling though. Sure we are a bit low on activity but if this talk has anything to show its that there are still people that want to make it work. Step one to building back up is getting everything in order and sorting out the shitstorm caused by the last three months. Nothing more or nothing less right now.

[member="Jack Sparrow"] Do you have anyone in mind for the position of Supreme Commander yet? I'd like someone to be in place before this weird politico-invasion thing kicks off on Sunday. I'd also like us to proceed on bolstering planetary defenses, and working out the details for privateering and some offensive operations with our allies. I myself don't have anything further to add to the IC thread. I just made the one post to make my pitch. I still think the GR military would do well to have a fresh face like myself take the lead, while our more veteran members will still be around for consultation in the background. If I prove to suck at the job, then I'll step aside for someone else to have a go. However, I will say that I'll need some time to turn things around, at 0-13 apparently.

Worst case scenario we could just appoint an interim commander for the upcoming invasion..nothing permanent but if they wanted the role it would definitely establish experience for said candidate if they want to settle into the role permanently. That's not to say a permanent appointment is guaranteed, though...it's not.

Who is the ranking officer between the Army and Navy? I'd say it goes to them, if only the interim position.

Ticon is more or less filling in an unofficial capacity until we figure things out. We've already checked out candidates from the military, but our most active senior naval officers don't want the position. They're too busy working on their own things to give the whole military the attention that it deserves. The remaining active soldiers and sailors are junior officers and NCOs. ICIly, it would be implausible to slot them into the position.

Ticon is the commander of the Republic's clone forces (currently being resettled, and in the process of being granted full sentient rights), so she could fit the bill as either Supreme Commander or Grand General. However, her past associations make her a controversial figure. I don't have anything against Ticon, but I think her appointment would cause more friction with the GA. There are at least a few of them that consider her a war criminal.

I suppose I should ask then, is there really a necessity for a Supreme Commander? We have the admirals in the Navy and the general(s) in the Army, each can command their respective branches. We could just have the Supreme Chancellor assume that role of commander-in-chief.. Or if we're feeling edgy, we could outsource to a private army..there seems to be no shortage of them

Yes, there needs to be someone to directly oversee the military affairs of the Republic. Think of the Supreme Commander as the Secretary of Defense. The Chancellor is ultimately the commander-in-chief, but they're also responsible for all other aspects of the executive branch.

We use mercenaries as auxiliaries and proxies, but outsourcing our defenses to an external entity is a no go.

[member="Miss Blonde"] Yes.

Fair enough. There are also civilian heads of the military, i.e: Secretary of the Army, SecNav, etc. Caius had mentioned a Senate Armed Services Committee, is this something that could fall under their purview?

[member="Gael bar Ammon"]

That's true, but we don't have the numbers or interest to roleplay out such a level of bureaucracy. Senate committees function as sub-bodies that focus on legislation for specific areas like the armed services or commerce. They can provide oversight, but the task of managing anything in the executive branch falls to the Chancellor and his cabinet, which would include the Supreme Commander. Now what the Senate can do is recall a Chancellor if they're not satisfied with the Chancellor's performance. I'm not sure if the Senate deals with confirming the nominations of general officers, but they certainly can make recommendations for positions like in the IC thread.

I don't think there's really much wrong with the organization of the military, we just finally need a good leader in place that will break our losing streak. I think I can do that with the people we have now.

I want to do some more IC things, so would you care to meet sometime?
This amuses me. Now I want to take it to a thread with him just so he and Keira can duke it out. Yes please.

Definitely. I'm up for a thread to discuss things anytime. :)

In agreement with [member="Jack Sparrow"] - [member="Willam Forlon"] is given the IC job as the Republis new Supreme Commander.
