The armor of Amadeus Ren is deceptive. It looks like simple padded fabric garments, however it is an elaborately crafted multi-layered heavy armor. Closest to the body is the body glove, which provides an insulated and airtight first layer, allowing for protection against ionic and fire damage and exposure to space for short durations. The middle layer is composed of a micronized Mandalorian iron and synthmesh composite, which results in a very dense but protective material-like padding; this allows for a bulk of the protective qualities the armor provides, including energy, elemental, kinetic and similar damage sources. The outer layer, which appears as fabric, is an armorweave and reifflex cellular padding fusion that further increases resistance to blaster weapons and lightsaber blades.
The left glove has incorporated a crushgaunt, which allows for increased physical strength with that limb. Additionally, due to the micronized Mandalorian iron, it is capable of resisting lightsaber blades - and energy bolts - directly, even allowing for them to be deflected or caught in Amadeus' grasp.
The downside to having such a layered armor combination is the weight, and as a result, Amadeus' armor is physically demanding. Additionally, due to Amadeus' focus on lightsaber combat, his armor is mainly skewed towards energy protection, resulting in slug and piercing weapon resistance being low. Due to the thick and bulky nature of the armor, which can also be combined with Amadeus' cloak and combat helmet, it offers good resistance to most elemental sources, though excessive environmental heat can become uncomfortable quickly for him amid those layers. Also, due to Amadeus' cybernetic right leg, which begins mid-thigh, excessive high-level physical exertion can begin to cause the limb to hurt, even resulting in a limp at times.
Some years later, through betrayal, the armor was claimed by Amadeus' student - Astus Ren - the latter of whom slew his master, and claimed the attire as his own. Due to lacking a cybernetic limb, Astus is able to utilize the armor more fully as its new owner, though it still maintains a heavier weight than most combat armors for lightsaber users. Astus also included his own combat helmet, a symbol of his position and method for maintaining his concealed identity, instead keeping his dead master's as a memento. And while creating or financing a new set of armor may have been simpler, it remains that defeating and claiming a powerful foe's was far more challenging and rewarding for the Knight of Ren...
