The Arch Wilder
Intent: To finally give an explanation of the Ashlan piloting rig and how it works
Development Thread: (If needed)
Manufacturer: Verres Trading associates
Model: Ashlan Piloting Rig
Affiliation: Ace The Ashlan Wolf
Modularity: None
Production: Production: Unique
Material: Durasteel and basic wiring
Description: The Ashlan piloting rig is a system made to give an Ashlan to pilot a ship, at least ona rudimentary level. While complex aerial maneuvers can be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, it does make basic flight more than possible. The rig is made to correspond with various parts of the ship. The rig is situated around a walk in harness that keeps the wolf in place as they pilot the ship, therefore keeping them from flying around the ship during a barrel roll.
The main piloting is done by a small modified throttle that can be held in the Ashlans mouth. From there, servos and other mechanical parts are hooked up to lead from it to the ship’s natural throttle, making its movements correspond with the miniature one.
To fire, a pull chain is placed behind the Ashlan for their tail to wrap or lay upon. Should they need to fire the guns, a simple pull pushes their tail down on the safety, disengaging it. From there, a certain amount of pressure eventually manages to trigger the firing mechanisms, causing the ship to fire.
On the bottom of the rig, surrounding the Ashlan’s harness is a sort of circular keyboard, allowing the Ashlan to flip various switches and a dust different aspects of the ship, just as one would with a normal piloting console. This is done with various spliced wires.
While removing the Rig from the ship is difficult, it can be moved aside, or worked around though this could prove cumbersome. To move the rig aside, a bottom lies under it in the center, allowing for a person to press it. This causes excess wires to be drawn out for more movement. The rig is then placed to the side where the wires are out of the way due to the natural positioning. To return the rig to its original position, simply place it back and press the button again to draw in the excess wiring.
Strengths:
Allows Ashlans to pilot a ship
Can conveniently be placed out of the way.
Simple to understand how it works
Weaknesses:
Can be affected by EMP’s(though there will likely be bigger problems than the rig if this is an issue)
Cumbersome for larger beings should they need to take quick control
Requires large amounts of agility for complicated maneuvers
