STRENGTHS
  • Atomic Fracture
    Ashina Steel's brittle, yet non malleable quality allows Ashina metallurgists and katanakaji to forge edges down to a single atom by fracturing the material. Much like obsidian, this gives Ashina steel five-hundred times the cutting power of traditional steel.


  • Anti-Dimetris Conductivity
    As a cortosis alloy, Ashina Steel possesses a high energy-resistant and conductive quality. Given that most lightsabers contain dimertis circuits in their activation loop, contact with Ashina Steel starts a feedback crash running through the lightsaber's system that takes only a fraction of a second it down. This effectively equates to 'cutting' through a lightsaber's blade.


  • Energy Sponge
    Non-dimetris circuits and/or other forms of energy such as blaster bolts become dampened and absorbed upon contact with Ashina Steel, granting the alloy a high resistance to things such as blaster fire and electricity.
WEAKNESSES
  • Brittle
    Though not exactly glasslike, Ashina steel's durability is significantly dependent of the cortosis used in the forging process. Steel tempers the metals strength, but the overall structural toughness of the alloy still suffers. Blades and other implements can be broken over ones knee with a moderate effort, and weapons made of this material aren't suited for long-term kinetic contact. Because of this, Ashina Steel is almost exclusively used in small blades meant for quick killing blows and/or defense against energy-based weapons.

  • Susceptible to Oxidation
    Weapons and implements made from Ashina Steel require great care and upkeep to maintain. The alloy rusts easily, and even the smallest amount of oxidation can cause the already brittle material to become glasslike. In extreme cases, the metal can shrivel into dust without proper care.
DESCRIPTION
Ashina Steel was the life's work of Azuma Ashina, later completed by Satoshi Ashina. Seventy-three collective years of metallurgic study and experimentation went into the development of the alloy, which is hailed today as one of Clan Ashina and the Hebo Region's crowning achievements. Due to the Hebo Region's luddite tendencies, all methods of producing the alloy remain archaic and traditional to this day. The material remains esoteric, and few samples have ever made it beyond the Hebo Region, or into the hands of a non-Ashina. Weapons and implements made from the material are a symbol of status, achievement, and power.
