HK-36
The Iron Lord Protector (Neutral Good)
Intent: To create a cheap portable transmitter device which could be used to access the HoloZinema network as well as receive ARHVN programmings and transmit holo-disks purchase orders. A device for those who wish to access ARHVN from their ships or out of range of broadcasting beacons in Protectorate Sanctum territory. Also, a device which could be used by resistance forces in Sith territories to communicate and spread anti-Sith propaganda.
Development Thread: If required
Manufacturer: Abregado-Rae Guild of Hammers utilizing designs by Abregado-Rae Holo-Vision Network
Model: Transmitter Antennae-1
Affiliation: Barony of Abregado-Rae, Omega Protectorate, Levantine Sanctum, Public
Modularity: The device can be, rather easily, modified to transmit more than orders for holo-disk purchases, it can be used as a miniature broadcasting station to broadcast amateur programmings on custom holo-channels, such as propaganda or resistance coordinating. However, officially Abregado-Rae does not condone such modifications, unofficially, they provide instructions how to do them.
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Small durasteel body housing electronics and an additional antenna for back-up, housing a Echani Graphite filament at its core.
Description: This product is further attempt of HK to cash in on more of the profits ARHVN was bringing in from the interest of public with its shows and movies as well as the droid's cooperation with his HRD Spacer counter-part Captain Sammo. Sammo Captains a frigate called the Young In Spirit, it is a mobile Spacer Motel and a broadcasting station, from it he ferries wanderers and spacers around the Galaxy as well as sends out notifications about traffic, pirate raids, and any blockades on hyper-routes, warning Spacers of dangers in attempt to decrease attacks on merchant convoys and make the space safer, as it is his job as Warden of Hyperlanes.
Anyway, HK's idea was to help the cause, and cash in on the profit, by making communicator transmitters available to the Spacer masses and updating on the previously used systems, making long-range communication available also to those without capital ships, such as tramp freighter or civilian spacecraft pilots. What resulted was a sort of space CB radio utilizing long-range waves and the Holo-net for communication and data transmissions.
However, HK recognized potential for pirates, Sith, or other governments confiscating such devices after they are used as the droid calculated and hoped for them to be used, i.e. to spread propaganda in Sith territories against their regimes, and send out notifications and alerts to other spacers in order to avoid Sith patrols and pirate raids. So, the droid decided that the device should be hidden, and that is where the ARHVN came in.
What this device officially is, is a data transmitting and receiving set-up designed to enhance the range from which the customers of ARHVN are able to view their programming and access the HoloZinema network outside of territories from which the ARHVN transmits. However, with just few simple modifications it can be turned into a broadcasting station disguised as simple holo-vision receiving set-up in case the vessel would be boarded by a party which would restrict use of uncontrolled broadcasting stations among Spacers.
The device comes in two parts, the Main Transmitting and Receiving Unit and the Handheld Control Unit. The Main Unit is easily installed by attaching it to the ship's communication console, station, or unit, and then securing it to the ship's inner wall via magnetic clamp in order to allow the unit to broadcast and receive information. The Control Unit is a palm-sized communicator with a built-in wire antennae that can extend up to .50 meter in length. The Transmitting unit is controlled by the Control Unit by speaking or pushing the commands, and transmissions into the palm-sized device.
But why does a modern device need a metal antennae? Well officially it's there to provide back-up if the Main Transmitting unit fails, providing communication on shorter range, but the device has a built-in electronic antennae for that, it does not need the wire one. However, the wire antennae does have an Echani Graphite filament with aluminium coating, and it is detachable. As such, during a crisis, such as boarding of the ship, the antennae could, potentially, be used as improvised self-defense weapon as the Echani Graphite filament is resistant to lightsaber blows. Therefore, the antennae could be used as a painful whip, or the filament could be pulled out to wrap around a lightsaber and disarm a lightsaber-wielding opponent, or used to strangle the boarding party in a surprise attack.
While it is not a professional weapon and something else should be used, like a vibroblade or a blaster, the element of surprise could potentially give upper hand to the Spacer in trouble.
