When was the last time she had been here? Denon held just about everything you could think of, any product for any price.

What was Katsumi's product of choice today? None, aside from the attention of a senate member who was willing to hear the veteran out about an idea for a bill.

Today was the rather jaded captain's day to make a sales pitch, the price being great... Yet the reward all the more sweeter to someone who valued the safety of this republic.

Admittedly she knew hardly any information about the woman she was to meet, it wasn't often she even peeked her head into politics. Hers was a different sort of job, destroy any and all enemies of this great nation.

The meeting took place later in the day, the trooper arriving about half an hour earlier than she needed to. Dressed in her officer's attire, finely ironed, hair done, smell was pleasing. Kat looked ever the professional, to her it was of utmost import to assume this appearance.

Enjoying a beverage before being called in to meet the senator, the captain would enter the office of Ayumi. Giving a respectful nod of her head along with a smile, first impressions were important after all.

"Ma'am."

The woman would stand, waiting for the senator to give permission to sit.

"Captain Royal, mobile infantry."

She wasn't quite sure how someone such as this was to be given something more, was a nod of the head even correct? Being far too used to blood and mud, the captain still gives a military salute regardless. Hopeful she wasn't looking like an idiot.

Denon had continued to develop and push its own limits. With a good showing at the expo they had developed and shown off their newer foodstuffs that were sold and developed on world. Continued efforts to what they were doing allowed. Ayumi getting a chance to have a day off from the senate district and was spending time in Upcity. Their continued efforts going out while the buildings around were showing many of the reforms for them. Her office gleaming in reflective surfaces but she sat there in the office. The exterior glass displaying on the screens as it was insulated in thicker walls while microrepulsors in her anklets allowed her to have bare feet.

"Senator, there is a woman here for a meeting." Megera's voice came though and Ayumi looked up with a smile from her datapad before she spun around in the seat allowing herself a small moment as the woman came in and Ayumi's eyebrows raised while she sat there. The large desk shifting with the materia to make the expansion of it smaller to give her more attention. "Welcome." She listened to the name and a soldier named Royal... Interesting and her mind went to her being part of a royal guard like on Naboo... She couldn't unthink it but didn't let it go across her face while standing and she offered a seat for the woman.

"Senator Pallopides, former jedi master, once senator of the Republic and current senator of Denon and House Pallopides of the Naboo Great Houses."

She of course takes the seat when offered, adjusting herself to a comfortable spot.

"Well met, senator. I must say that even in all my years fighting alongside the Jedi... I have yet to really sit down and learn more."

The woman clicks her tongue.

"Ah but that will have to wait for another time of course, today I wish to propose an idea I have concerning a new bill. My hope is that I can get your backing on this, and we can all be better for it."

She places a little holoprojector on the table, letting it power on to showcase the current known map of the galaxy.

"As you are well aware, we live and breathe in this section of the galaxy. Most places under republic guidence have been seeing a rise in growth thanks to our administrative efforts. This is of course how we want things to run, a happy populace, and a balanced democracy."

Katsumi pauses for a moment, watching and judging the current mood and reaction of the senator.

"Oh?" Her voice came out with a small look and Ayumi adjusted only a little staying there so she could look across from the woman. "Do tell me which bill and your concern?" She asked it with a small look of growing interest. Not many complained unless their names were the magister or Eadu. Then it was mostly for disparaging no confidence. "I am more then happy to listen to your concerns and bring it up." Ayumi kept her eyes on the girl while she only moved one hand to touch her desks hardlight console display and it was fabricating two glasses with the programmable matter and then the waters for them. "Drink?"

Noticing that she really had her attention now, Kat gives a warm smile while still keeping a professional flare.

"Aye ma'am, a big issue... Several in fact."

The woman gives a nod at the offer of a drink.

"As you can see by the map, our little nest of comfort is surrounded. Well by what? Here we have the Sith Order, up here the Sith Covenant, and out this way steadily approaching us? An empire of Mandalorians."

The projector then highlights several planets, along with logistic lines.

"We are unequivocally surrounded. I am quite glade you are a Jedi, so you have seen it then yes? The utter devastation brought by those under Sith banner? I myself don't understand the force, nor do I understand the deeper conflict between you two. But in service to this republic for over a decade now? I have seen what all they do."

She was hoping that the senator began to understand why the captain was worried.

"With the enemy being everywhere, ready to strike at any moment. Our lines could grow thin, resources stuck in a loop of racing back a forth to meet the enemy."

Pausing for a moment she sips on the water that was offered earlier.

"So I have come to propose a bill."

"I was a jedi once upon a time. I haven't been a jedi since chancellor Popo. I am all political now." She said it as a small correction but she didn't hide it. Just needed to make it sure and clear. She didn't speak with any authority of the High Republics jedi but she had some experience and insights a few others didn't have. "And you are corect, being surrounded on multiple sides is not going to be ideal. There is a chance they will fight each other but that cannot be relied upon nor will attrition solve everything." She said it while sitting there though but took a drink. "So tell me what this bill is you are seeking to propose?"

"Aye ma'am, and we have seen firsthand that Sith infighting didn't save the core."

They were truly everywhere, almost any direction held Sith bastions.

"What me and others need in the military is time, with enough extra time we can produce better results. And even if that little bit of extra time doesn't save us completely... It still makes them bleed harder for every inch."

Now it was time to get into the details...

"A lot of our people look onto the horizon and see only war, this is the sad reality of our time currently. So I propose an act, the 'outstanding citizen act'. Each and every world that adopts it will have their population given the opportunity to volunteer. Once signed on they can receive basic training, be able to fight for themselves and their home until we arrive."

With the projector no longer needed, she powers it off.

"These citizens won't have the same level of lethality as our dedicated military, nor the same level of equipment. But it helps hold the line and buy time, they get to help protect their home and family."

It wasn't easy to suggest such an act, it had been on her mind for ages now.

"There of course are catches, these brave men and women are not standard military. They are a home guard, only meant to be rallied in the event their home is threatened by the enemy. They are not to be deployed elsewhere of course, and each one that falls in battle gets a soldier's burial for their bravery."

Kat takes another last sip of her water.

"I would imagine that planets further away from the border won't have many who sign on, but those right against the enemy? It may give us the time we need, and give those souls pride in being able to defend their home without military duty taking them away from it."

Listening there was a small look of interest as Ayumi took a sip from her cup with a nod of her head. "I see." She said it while thinking about it and tapped on her desk while she was bringing up some of it. "Well I think you will be happy, Denon has been doing much the same with its Sunwire to make supplies and out military district." She said it but they used advancing tech for the fabrication and processing. "Our militaries training is something that we have been leasing out to worls allowing them to be trained and purchase equipment. A bill that could strengthen that would benefit much for the other worlds and Dominique Vexx would be willing to hear more about it."

"So, does this mean I have your support in this endeavor? It is a cause that I hold dear to me, I wish to help keep the safety of the people as a first and foremost concern."

The captain was hopeful that this senator would back this, push it to the senate floor.

"A well defended people are a loyal people, and loyal people help keep economies healthy with less of both crime and unaccounted credits."

She had worked in corporate before, and she was no stranger to economic logistics.

"A bill such as this will cut into credits at first, but much like a garden it will bear fruit overtime... So long as we nurture it."

Times were bleak, and every horizon held with it the peering eyes of the abyss. Kat was very obviously determined to make sure this republic stayed healthy, and she would try to make sure the people had hope.

Ayumi looked at the woman and wanted to laugh a little. Not entirely but she was looking at her with amusement and wondering if that was how she sounded when she brought the massive scale reforms of Denon which had much the same thing. "YOur bill is going to need work, mostly more verbose speech to make the other senators and those reading it believe themselves much smarter because they understand the big words. It is a trick many of us use. The credits are not an issue here, Denon makes them perpetually from our investments so we can support and endeavor on it. Militarizing many of the others though you are going to want to have some more visuals to go with it."

YOur bill is going to need work

"With all due respect ma'am, that is why I brought this idea to the table. I have no shame in admitting that I am not a very politically savvy woman, my job for the past decade has been to help assure that no hostile boots touch our streets."

It was true, Kat was not built for that kind of work. She was a warrior, trained and conditioned to only know war.

"Times are uncertain, ma'am. We never know who or what is going to be knocking, I just want to make sure we are ready to kick that door open on them."

The amusement didn't go by unnoticed by the captain, she will thankful that her service had helped engrain patient professionalism.

"Now, if the idea doesn't sound like something you are willing to put faith in..."

Something she had learned in life was that time was almost never on your side, the sooner things like this get passed the better. The captain's tone and choice of words made it clear in a polite manner that if not much interest was shown, she should take her leave.

"Where did I give that impression? My records and history shows much the same mindset of building things up for the longer term instead of short term. It is what I brought to Denon when I was elected and it has been the model. Cleaner streets, better healthcare for our people and workers means more profits in the long run." She said it and rose up finally walking around while she looked at the woman. "WHile it can be good, going all or nothing right off the bat, will make gathering the support difficult. I am just glad that there is someone else who has a mindset like I do when it comes to the planning." She said it though while motioning. "So enjoy yourself, we'll work on its wording and building it up. You'll have to make this appealing to a lot of people and not all have the same fears and worries as you do."

"Until those monsters come knocking on their door."

The captain sighs, her tone wasn't argumentative. She had simply seen things, watched firsthand for over a decade what happens to those not ready.

"I'm glad you're onboard ma'am, once it is deemed ready to present, am I correct in assuming this will be hitting the senate floor?"

She thinks things over some more, nodding to herself.

"I will also try to find the time to speak with more senators, the more this idea gets spread around."

Ayumi had also pointed out what the captain herself mentioned earlier... Those further away from the fighting wouldn't show as much passion to defend their home. So perhaps it was time to meet senators that were right on those frontlines? Surely they would be onboard with this idea, and if they do yet the others decline? Well that would just be leaving those frontline worlds to burn, siding with the vocal frontliners would help make those in safety look like heroes.

"I believe I can handle that aspect, while you all handle the bureaucracy behind it."

Katsumi had the look and tone of someone with a plan.

"I thank you for your time, ma'am. I think I need to start requesting more appointments."

She waits, the captain would only take her leave after the senator was also ready to wrap up.

That only got an eyebrow while she was walking and stood there. "Who is your homeworlds senator? I can help with a lot but presenting it would be stronger from your own world. The first thing asked if I presented it would be why did your homeworld's representative not? Even if it is a simple and innocent explanation, no malice or subversion. The look of bypassing them can sink even the more logical and well-conceived bill. I am for helping, for developing it. Send me what you have planned with details that can be used and it can be worked on to be more appealing but also you will want to get more senators in on this. Most should want to support it."

Who is your homeworlds senator?

She gives a nod, adjusting herself back into the chair.

"I was born and raised on New Cov, ma'am. As for the senator in charge? Painfully I have to admit that I am not sure, I haven't seen any names or political campaigns."

New Cov was a jungle world, stepped deep into the biomolecular industry.

"Given that the information is a little vague, I can't say I am sure how to approach that. I would love for my homeworld to have this bill in motion of course, it sits right on the border with the enemy."

Just thinking about it sent her nerves into a tingle, she didn't remember her home being one ready for war... It was glass domes, scientific industry.

"Whatever the case is, I am sure I can get it sorted out. I have everything written down at home- Or well.. On base. I'll get that information sent to you right away."
​

Most should want to support it.

The thought did help ease the captain, by now it would be easy to see she was fiercely loyal to the Republic and its people as a whole.
