An Item of Perfection

The construction of mining colonies and industrial towns on Hishyim had proceeded ahead of schedule – well ahead. Thanks to the efforts of [member="Marek Starchaser"] and [member="Darell Irani"] of course – without their concentrated efforts and construction crews, Incom Corporation wouldn’t have been able to get the resources delivered from a local source rather than relying on off-world shipments to arrive within days or sometimes weeks. She stared at the B-Wing schematics from the Slayn & Korpil technicians – they were very cooperative when they discovered that a member of the Royal Alderaanian family and the CEO of Incom Corporation wished to spearhead a modernization of a fighter that delivered the message of Freedom across the galaxy.

She would stick to that message, without a doubt.

The Union for her, was no different than a conglomerate of Corporations sticking by each other’s side and ensuring no one failed in their efforts to be prosperous in their respective fields of expertise. Alyesa had heard of the darkness within the Techno Union, of its allies on both political and military spectrums but didn’t bother with those details – she kept to herself – and kept her eyes on her objective. With the Republic turning a blind eye to her, and becoming a state of tyranny and corruption – casting her aside like a used up power cell – all she could focus on was Incom Corporation and her dreams of becoming the next big ship designer like…Walex Blissex.

With the massive array of Starfighters in their product line, Incom Corporation was well on its way to branding itself right up there with Santhe Corporation – potentially even surpassing them in fighter superiority. Of course, she didn’t want to make [member="Sasha Santhe"] look beneath her – she was targeting a different brand and going a different direction. If there were dark elements within the Techno Union – she was the light but even lights cast shadows, if pushed, she had a backbone. Alas, this wasn’t about her or even the Union – no, this was about the glimmering spectral before her. The various blues, and greens of the readout of the B/E-3 B-Wing Multi-Role Starfighter. She watched as the Verpine engineers discussed amongst themselves the changes that she was making on the screen before them – perhaps in disgust, perhaps in amazement.

It was traditional for her to start at the top of a fighter design and work her way down – so, naturally the cockpit would be her first target. A delicate hand would come to embrace her chin as she moved around the holo before her and gestured towards the plans, she’d then place her hands on the controls, manipulating it from flight to attack mode. “The Gyroscopic system has caused issues in the past, has it not?” She turned to look at the protocol droid who looked at the Chief Engineer and translated her words, to which he nodded and replied something back in Verpine.

The droid shuffled in place and made several gestures as he spoke, Alyesa turning away to re-examine the rotating B-Wing which kept maneuvering from flight to attack mode. “Mistress Organa, he says that it was notorious to cause the cockpit module and even the wings to occasionally freeze when moving from flight to attack mode…” Alyesa held a hand up to cut the droid off, nodding slowly. “I know already, it wasn't really something that needed to be answered, to be frank.” She eyed the droid and continued to examine the blueprints before her.

“We’re going to remove this completely, and put in S-Foil modules on both the Wing System and the Cockpit rotation module. This will enable a free flowing movement between Flight and Attack mode.” She stated to the droid as she began manipulating the schematic, removing components and adding in generic modules. The droid would then translate to the Verpine engineers who discussed it amongst themselves before they resumed watching.

The blueprints would accept the new modules and shift various colors as the B-Wing continued to change colors from green and blue, with light red-hues around the four engines in the rear-center of the starfighter. She raised an eyebrow as she brought her attention to the material to which the Starfighter itself was made of and began making adjustments. Obviously, newer and more stable durasteel and metals were manufacturered some 800 years after the original fighter hit the market - therefore - replacing it would be a requirement. This included coolant tanks for the engines and intake manifolds for the engines themselves. Most likely a lightweight carbon-alloy material, something that dispersed heat easily.

She made a gestured to the blueprint again, drawing up four smaller sublight engines - she'd add two to the bottom of the craft and two to the wings of the craft. "The problem with an Assault or Bomber craft is speed. As we have seen historically, it becomes a relatively easy target. We want this fighter to be able to move with the best of them."

The adjustments made the Verpine discuss amongst themselves before resuming their silent, watchful duties. Alyesa would then resume her pace around the schematic, gently pushing the stuffy protocol droid out of her way before she came to the weapon systems onboard the B-Wing. "We need to remove the magazine component, it's useless." She gestured and deleted the component from the blueprint and adjusted the payload. "The purpose is to make this craft be lighter, faster and more aggressive - not have to worry about a cumbersome payload it wouldn't even get to use if it's bogged down with excess armament." She'd stare at the ion and blaster canons, the current combination made sense - for now. Why take the aggressiveness of non-lethal and lethal away - but there would be a system that might assist in making it have a better punch...

She looked to her left for a moment, pulling up a datapad from the table before looking back at the blueprint rotating in the holo before them. "A multi-link system between the non-lethal system and lethal weapon systems, cannons only of course." She gestured and manipulated the blueprint, causing it to "fire" both laser and ions in the holo at the same time. "However, this would create a strain on the current generator system with the additional sublight engines to such a point it would reach critical mass and potentially cause a shut-down of all systems." She motioned to the side monitors of the components within the blueprints as it registered test phases on the various sources of energy within the fighter.

She'd gently set down the datapad and bring her hand to her chin in thought, rubbing it gently as she watched the holo for a moment and then turn away to face the glass outside her office. "Generators would create more weight than the disposable magazine of warheads - if we combined additional power cells to feed into the generator when this function was activated, maybe just for this sole purpose..." She turned and faced the holo again and began adding on small power cells to the central portion of the fighter. "This would enable us to have the fire linked systems, without the weight." It was a tough gamble, but field testing would prove if she was right or wrong. Of course, that was a distance ahead - right now, they were still in the design phase.

Again, much like other additions - it would accept the new modules with little resistance and of course the linked fire system would operate at full capacity with no hiccups or strains to other systems. She sighed heavily and again, brought her hand to her chin in thought. There had to be other things she was missing on the fighter, other components she could add to make it more of an assault craft that was worthy of her buyers. "The current targeting systems aren't adequate - we need something more." She said suddenly, her hand coming down from her chin as she pulled up a schematic on her datapad quickly, accessing the files to the XJ-9 blueprint.

"The systems on the XJ-9 are some of the most advanced on the market to date." That was speculation of course, there could be individual or even other fighter systems out there that had better systems but she didn't cheat the system as some did - she didn't skip the various components that were required to make things work. Which is why the products of Incom were quality, not breaking down on the individual within short order. She'd pull the targeting module up on a separate holo next to the B-Wing and begin adjusting the actual components within it. It had to be compatible or otherwise - it would be rejected by the internal systems. Making an advanced system wasn't hard - importing it from another fighter was a different story.

She'd finish making the adjustments to the XJ-9 targeting module and move it over to the B-Wing blueprint - the registration and processing would take a moment but it would accept it in short order. She sighed heavily and looked at the B-Wing further, there were other components that the B-Wing had which it would benefit stealing technology from her prized X-Wing. Shields no doubt would be a close second to the advanced targeting system. So she'd pull up the shield module on the XJ-9 and begin adjusting the compatibility on that, this was going to be an exhausting effort it would seem. Hopefully, when things were all said and done and the fighter passed the quality test on the proving grounds - it would be worth it...hopefully.

Once the adjustments were made to the shield module, and much like before with the targeting module - she'd move it over to the blueprints and wait a few seconds. Within those seconds, she'd hold her breath and feel like time had stopped. It was heart wrenching to say the least. If a component is rejected by the system, she'd have to break it down further and remove other components to verify that there wasn't something interfering with the new system being placed into the old. Alot of people thought building ships was just about making a design and handing it over to some big shipyard to produce - no, no. There was so much more detail and in-depth workings that it made her own head spin at times. The blueprint would accept the shield module, and with that acceptance, Alyesa would breath a sigh of relief.

There were a few more components to be inserted - and no doubt it would be the same process with each one of them. She'd take a moment to breath and look over the fighter that she literally tore apart and rebuilt from the ground up. The Slayn and Korpil technicians had brought her the bare bones, she basically put in the organs, muscles and tissue - and made it a beast. Of course, this beast would have to eventually see life - again, she was getting ahead of herself. Something she rarely did unless she was really excited about something - sort've like she was when she reproduced the XJ-7. Her finger would run across her chin, as she looked down at the XJ-9 modules and then back to the B-Wing. The sensors needed some adjusting...

She'd pull the sensor module from the XJ-9 schematics and start adjusting them as she did the two modules before, only this time she had to take in account the different type of craft that was using this module. It was going from a Multi-Role Starfighter to an Assault and Bomber class starfighter - so further adjustments would have to be made in order to ensure accuracy of the sensor systems. A slight adjustment to the probing module - even a tweak to the frequency module to add in a few more known enemy channels. They wouldn't be major adjustments, but enough to ensure that the system would reject it. Like before, she put the sensor module into the B-Wing blueprint and waited those critical few seconds before it accepted the new sensor module as it's own.

There was a component that was becoming a standard item on all her starfighters lately - the expandable compensator field. This had been something back when the Yuuzhan Vong were a huge threat 800 years prior and had become a new thing when they re-emerged as a threat again at the hands of the One Sith. Since it was a standard component for Incom products, this B-Wing would be no different. It would ensure that not only did the compensator generators didn't get any strain from those nasty Vong ships but it would automatically adjust to assist the Assault/Bomber craft against such a threat. Nothing fancy and nothing new, just a standard Incom module that would easily be accepted by the B-Wing schematic.

Alyesa had completed what she could, she put together the schematic and all the modules had been accepted within the old schematic, now it was a matter of recompiling the old and new data together. That process alone would take a few hours – this is where it became boring and tedious work, this is where she became ill with her job and missed the days of being a politician. She couldn’t negotiate much with the Verpine technicians, that task had already been done by other delegates – no – now she would just have to send them off to enjoy the company of whatever the Techno Union had sent for them. Now, it was a matter of waiting and watching – and getting annoyed.

Alyesa found herself taking a seat somewhere within the Research and Development department – atleast while the schematics completed their compilation. She contemplated where she had gotten and how far she had come within a short matter of time. Once a prominent Senator – now focused on a career in the shipwright business. She had a knack for it, she had the talent – but she wasn’t bred into it like others. She was supposed to prim and proper, groomed to be the heir for the throne of Alderaan liker her siblings, but that would never come to pass. With her ouster came consequences that were unforeseen for herself and Alderaan. As long as Alderaan flew the banner of the Republic – she would never see the beautiful skyline again.

It wasn’t like it had much of a skyline anyways, without the help of Incom of course. She had invested so much money and effort into the rebuilding process and she was pleased with the results – but it was taking time. She knew it would, and of course it would take more time and money than she could possibly afford. She’d eventually have to figure something else out, another path or another way to make ends meet to fit her goals to restoring Alderaan to its rightful place amongst the Galaxy’s finest. Yeah, that is where it truly belonged. For the moment, she had other issues to content with - like finishing this project and ensuring she had a quality product to roll out and introduce to the Board of Directors and the Techno Union individuals who were interested and even those who weren't affiliated who might need this equipment.

The rebuilding process of the schematics would take longer than expected - which would give Alyesa more time to brood over the loss of not only Alderaan but her career as a politician. Could she handle the loss? Possibly, but there were times where she missed the hustle and bustle of the Senate Chambers. She did miss the arguments and the back and forth about what was best for the people they represented. So many opinions and views - that was what made Democracy beautiful. Maybe that is why she was so driven to make these fighters better and faster than the current products on the market - to keep the people of the Galaxy who wanted to be free, well...free.

A notification would appear on her datapad as she leaned back into the chair in her nice little corner office in the Incom building. Her primary office was being rebuilt as when she arrived, she really didn't like the setup - it had a oppressive feel and didn't really welcome the people she wished to do business with, atleast those who would visit her face to face. For now, she was stuck a few floors below where she normally would be, until it was all finished. The notification itself was concerning the B-Wing design - it was simple and to the point - it was complete and held zero errors in the end run testing. What did that mean? It was ready for a test build, which meant she needed to send the schematics off to the shipyards and get a quick production unit ready for field testing before actual production could begin.
