Though she was fighting well and handling his counters and strikes with proficiency. It was clear in his eyes that she was holding back her true power, that there might be what some considered a reliance on the Force and Jedi ways, however Cedwyn knew better. The Force was not a hindrance but a tool, one that if approached correctly, enhanced skill rather than diminished it. His old Jedi Master had taught him to perfect his skills without the Force before adding Force to them and taking his abilities to the next level. The Sith had taught him to push beyond boundaries and break the rules. He was curious to see how far he could push this Jedi.

The fiery spirit was still there, a determination to wipe the smug look from his face, but a calm too. A sense of calm, that this was how she preferred life, that she was a warrior, a fighter. There was the shared connection he was interested in. For his aura also held that of a warrior, of someone that would boldly go into battle, to enjoy the adrenaline rush and enjoyments of sparring, failing and growing. He didn't see the shared connection as romantic or such, just something in common that could build going forward, to what he never knew.

Another powerful kick came towards Cedwyn and he was able to time his block to slap the calf of her leg away from him. The punch was swift and he felt his body move just barely in time, feeling the punch skim across him. He shifted around thinking of a new approach against her since fists and kicks were not connecting that a grapple and fight on the ground might hold better odds.

He slide his large arm around her waist, holding her close as he swung her diagonally towards the ground. It was a risky play, but if successful, one that would give him the best chance to win this. His face still held a smile, even in defeat that would not fade. This was the best fight in years, he was already wondering when a rematch would occur.

Even though neither of them had managed to land any big hits, Valery felt confident that she could maintain her technique for a long time. Bakuuni Hand, the martial art she had trained in the most, was a striking martial art at its core so this fight was playing into her strengths, even though she wasn't allowed to use the Force. But to her, the Force was an ally she drew on when she needed it — it wasn't a tool for convenience she relied on for everything.

But as much as she had been in her element, that quickly changed when he moved in for a tackle.

Valery felt his grip around her waist and tried to resist by readjusting the position of her feet and leaning in the opposite direction he wanted to go. Sadly, he had more natural strength and body weight, so Valery was forced down onto her back with an audible oomph, and crossed her arms to protect herself.

But as quickly as she went down, she also began to resist again. Her body squirmed, twisted, and showed its flexibility as she tried to snake her way around him, and trap his head between her legs for a choke hold, or perhaps even an armbar if she could force him in the right position. Either way, it wasn't going to be easy to control her on the ground.

"Give...up..." she said through gritted teeth, her eyes on fire from her burning intensity. "You can't win this." A little bit of challenge to distract never hurt.

Cedwyn knew that his tackle was the right move when she let out the oof. It was a sign of being caught off guard with the fight shifting to the floor and having to scramble yourself. It wasn't an immediate victory, no, Cedwyn would never be that lucky. From the skills displayed by the woman, he was fortunate to have lasted this long in the fight. A factor he put down to her Force focused nature. Cedwyn watched her display her natural flexibility, squirming around, it was hard not to admire the view that she put on display for him, even in the form fitting robes.

However, she attempted to choke him in her legs. It was a move he was sure she tried on many men in the past, or at least many had dreamt of such a scenario. Instead he demonstrated his own capabilities in dodging and avoided the chokehold. Unfortunately, his focus on not having his head trapped between her strong legs meant that she got a clear attempt at an arm bar. His arm trapped as she pulled and tried to get him tapping out. Gritting his teeth, Cedwyn did not surrender. Many would in his position but few knew the correct technique to escape. Not perfect or guaranteed but he wasn't giving up as easily as she wanted.

If victory was what she wanted then Valery would have to work for it. Rolling over was not in his nature. He endured too much torture from the Sith and tough love from the Jedi to give up now. Reaching with his free hand, he tightly gripped it and rose with Valery holding him in the arm bar still. Falling to one knee sharply in order to slam her hard into the ground. The act had him breathing hard though. How much longer would he fight was another question.

"You fight well, sure with the Force, this would be over by now." Cedwyn chuckled, a smirk was still on his face. "Perhaps with some more fights like this, you'll be unstoppable no matter the situation." He sounded a little breathless before he reached and grappled with Valery. Attempting a leg bar himself.

Despite the arm bar she held him in, Cedwyn didn't tap out and kept resisting with everything he had, which meant she only tightened her lock and forced him to bite through that pain. With just about anybody else, this would have been the end of a somewhat 'friendly' spar where the goal wasn't to completely knock an opponent out, but Cedwyn had other plans and lifted himself up just enough to slam her back down against the ground.

The sudden impact knocked the wind out of her a little, and her head clipping the ground stunned her long enough for him to slip out of the arm bar. But knowing that he'd want to continue the grappling, Valery quickly rolled over and away from him before it could. She was strong on her feet and with striking but being on the ground grappling someone was never a position to be in. Out in the field, it meant that any bystander or unexpected enemy could come in and strike at her while she was grappling someone on the ground, and that would be the end.

She fought to avoid it at all costs.

So with quick movements, Valery tried to spin her way up to her feet, and in the process, aimed another powerful kick his way that she hoped would take advantage of his continued attempts to grapple. Most fighters kept their arms wider, and shielded their heads far less, allowing her to strike with unexpected speed and kick them down against the floor.

The fight was revealing a lot about the Jedi Master. For most, it would look like any fight, it was two skilled fighters aiming for control. For Cedwyn, it was a dance, a conversation and allowing him to see the insights of Valery. She was someone much more skilled than the layperson, even more skilled than the usual Jedi warrior. This was someone dedicated to fighting, someone focused on ending fight, a woman who was strength and disciple personified.

Quick on her feet, the Jedi Master escaped his attempts to grapple and maintain the fight on the ground. He growled with frustration but his smirk revealed how impressed with her that he was. It was hard not to admire her, and he believed she knew that affect she held on others. As she went for the kick, Cedwyn thrusted both his arms forward in a strong defense that connected with her kick. The blow was hard on his forearms but nothing broke. The block gave him time to spin away.

"I concede. For now, I think there is not much else that we can share in this conversation." He panted, his breath still a little shallow from hard work but it was not a sign that he was unable to continue. "I am happy to share what I know, and I am pleased you indulged me with this fight. Even if you did not commit to tradition as much as I wished." Cedwyn chuckled slightly before moving in closer to her.

His body was glistening slightly with sweat yet his body still held an air of pleasantness and not poor body odour one might expect. Standing very close to her, he looked down, "you can shower if you so please. I can offer you a glass of wine as well, celebrate your victory and discuss what I know." His voice low, a little louder than a whisper as he seemed to still be flirting and teasing her.

Cedwyn then took a step away and headed into the room, pouring himself a glass. "Apparently it is a Corellian red, and a pretty good year." He called to her as he still did not have his shirt one.

While the kick was blocked, its heavy impact likely sent some tremors down his arms, and Cedwyn quickly disengaged after the attack. She expected him to close the distance again for a counter-attack but was instead caught by surprise when he conceded. What his reason for it was, she didn't entirely know, but he claimed to have figured out what he wanted to know. Valery just narrowed her gaze, lowered her arms, and drew in a deep breath.

Fighting without the Force was far more demanding, but she had incredible stamina and seemed to be doing alright. There would be some bruising from the clash, but nothing the Force wouldn't heal for her overnight.

"I accepted this fight to save a life, not to indulge anybody," she said before raising a hand up through her hair. "I expect that you honor your word and dismantle the explosives." If he didn't, she no longer had any reason to hold back against him anymore. His leverage would be gone, and she'd use the Force to take him down and put him behind bars for a very long time. Not that she expected him to pull a stunt like that, but she was ready.

The man then stepped closer, and Valery didn't back down at all, as she looked up into his eyes. If he hadn't manipulated her into the fight, her reaction likely would have been different, but now there was some tension that wouldn't fade easily. "I'll pass on the shower and wine, but I'd like that information, so I can stop those people from targeting more innocent lives."

Hearing that she would skip on the shower and drink, Cedwyn chuckled. He also noted that she hadn't beaten him to a pulp over how close he got to her. He could feel the same tension but he didn't attempt to react to it, no, there was something holding her back and he could feel that. And it wasn't the fact that he held a life in the balance. When she demanded that he dismantle the explosive. "I cannot dismantle it remotely, however, I will say that the bomb is located in the senator's right inner jacket pocket." He held up a comms device, "use this to contact him and ensure that it is removed. To disarm it, you just cut the red wire, I was not overly sophisticated with the explosive."

He poured her a glass of wine, even though she did not wish for one. Cedwyn was insisting, "I must insist that you join me. To decipher some of this information, it could take several hours and wine will likely help you tolerate my attitude more." Cedwyn joked, showing how at ease he was with himself. Pulling his datapad into a large TV screen, Cedwyn flicked through several details. There were multiple hits and bounties, from both sides of the war, some minor, some murders, some terrorist attacks.

"Now, this is the details that were shared. I initially thought it was likely a cartel contract since the politician is from Nar Shaddaa and this territory is Hutt space. But if you think this is Sith related, then it shouldn't be tricky to figure out which branch of Sith." Cedwyn commented since there weren't many branches of Sith that could afford his charges, especially with their demand of explosion.

Looking over to her, "so, tell me about yourself. Should be good to know one another if we are gunna be stopping these Sith." Cedwyn dropped that he would be assisting her with the attempts to stop the Sith. For now, all the screen showed as a progress bar as it filtered through the false information the Sith had put to hide their location and information.

Valery took the offered comms unit and made a quick call to the target, explaining where the bomb was and how the bomb could be dismantled. His panic when the realization hit him was evident, but she assured him that he'd be fine, and soon enough, the man was saved from a rather terrible faith. Valery let out a soft sigh of relief and turned to Cedwyn to see him offer a glass of wine anyway.

He insisted.

With a wave of her hand, Valery dismissed it again and studied the datapad instead, "I don't drink on the job, and I'm not making an exception either," Valery said while she read through whatever he displayed. From ongoing contracts to information that would help her track down the Sith responsible for all of this. But while she read through it, Cedwyn mentioned joining her on the mission, and she turned back to him with a raised eyebrow.

"We? There's no we in this," she told him. "I work with people I trust and you used a hostage against me. Why would I ever want to work with you?"

He placed the glass of wine beside her. "Are you on the job though? No longer need to do the guard duty, this is information sharing. A social pleasantry, and humour me, might be trying to make a good impression here." Cedwyn explained as he leaned back in a chair, his arms crossed as he listened to her protest about him working with her and shook his head.

"I am a man of my word. Just because I kill for credits does not make me untrustworthy. I have not lied, I surrendered the information to save your man, I am even offering to give information on the supposed Sith that hired me." Cedwyn sighed, "I am no Jedi, and I probably not a good man. But I am one who sticks to his word, if you allow me to show you that, I will help you with the Sith."

Cedwyn wasn't sure if his point would work or if she would agree to take him on. However, he hoped that pointing out that he had not lied to her, and had upheld his word even in his defeat that she might see through his murkier background. "Having people you trust is all well and good, having someone who knows how these criminal organisations and bounty contracts works, that's knowledge you can't throw aside." He wasn't sure if the Jedi Master would know of others in his field or if she could rely on them but he had to try something to be convincing.

Waiting to hear her response, the datapad revealed who had actually hired him. Apparently the contract had pinged off a number of networks so he was lucky to even get an actual name. Especially because he knew this person would have been the one to hire him. His heart stopped and he felt a cold sweat, how did they find him? How were they still alive? He had killed them! It was his final trial, he had given up all of his Jedi training to prove he could kill them.

"This... kark..." Cedwyn muttered, his swagger, cocky attitude and smirk had all faded. Something deeply fearful held onto his heart as he kept reading the name and the location. They were still there all these years later, he thought the Sith wanted him dead for betraying them but they were still trying to hire him to do their dirty work.

Looking up to Valery, he swallowed hard, "I know these Sith. They trained me. If you want to stop them, then it is just the two of us." Cedwyn stated, now she knew where these Sith were there was probably no chance in stopping her but he wasn't dragging more into his business.

"A good impression?" Valery's gaze narrowed again, but she decided against saying more on that matter. She didn't take the drink and just kept her eyes on what she felt mattered the most — the information she was after so assassination attempts could be prevented from happening again. Something far bigger and much darker was behind all of this, and if it wasn't stopped, sooner or later someone was going to get killed.

"You didn't lie but you did manipulate," Valery corrected him, clearly still frustrated with the man. He tried to find a way to appeal to her, so she'd let him join her on the mission to take down the people responsible, but she showed no sign that she wanted him to join at all. Perhaps if he hadn't manipulated her into a spar, it could have been different, but she wasn't going on a dangerous assignment with someone she barely knew, and definitely didn't trust.

However, right as she was about to reject him again, the man seemed to realize something about the origins of the assassination job. He knew the Sith responsible and was even trained by them.

"Trained by them? And you think I trust you enough to work with you, why?" Valery frowned and shook her head, "Give me the details about this target, and I'll handle the rest. You've caused more than enough trouble already."

He rolled his eyes, he could feel the judgement coming off her like a tidal wave. "I am pretty sure if you weren't slightly interested in seeing what I had to offer in that sparring match, you would have blasted me with the Force and prevented me blowing up the guy." Cedwyn shook his head, "I don't think anyone can make you do anything you truly don't want to do. So, lets not pretend I strong armed you into anything, because I saw your skill, the power you hold. It's impressive, hand to hand might be limited since you are so Force focused but not as terrible as most Jedi."

Cedwyn took a step closer to her, looking down at her as he stood. "I allowed you to save the man's life, I gave up the contract the moment I pulled you into the alley. If I truly was going to kill him, he already be dead. I gave it up because I saw you and I was curious, I wanted to know you better so I brought you here to spar, to know you better. If you had demanded I removed or disarmed the bomb and swore to spar with me, I would have truly considered that."

"I was trained. I was tortured. I was branded into being their weapon. I killed, I fought and I survived because that's what I needed to do." There was a cold fire intensely burning in his eyes, "I didn't have much of a choice. My Master died, she was weak, they tried to break me and corrupt me completely."

He turned away from her and put the datapad on the table. "No, you don't get to just force me to find out the Sith that hunted me down, the Sith I thought were dead, are still out there. Still making me kill for them. And tell me to sit blindly as you go fight them." He growled lowly as he slammed his fist into the table. "You have no idea of the man I am, the chit I lived through, the chit they did. I am going, decision is whether I let you come with me. Because even if you force the information from me, I will leave and get there first to deal with it on my own."

"I am not trying to manipulate you, but I am not going to just sit here and let you handle my business." Cedwyn turned to her, looking at her with his steel fiery gaze, one of revenge, fury and justice.

"You had an explosive rigged on him, and you can use the Force yourself. Don't pretend that it would have been a clever idea for me to take that risk," Valery countered again, her dislike of the Echani growing with every assumption he made. If it hadn't been for the explosive, she would have never agreed to spar. Or if she did, it would have been completely unrelated to this situation and about actually wanting to train.

Although she rarely trained with strangers.

The man then stepped closer and continued, which only got her gaze to burn even brighter, "Don't pretend like you've done anything good today. You're blindly targeting people for cash and only your selfish interests can stop you from it." Despite the fact that her words were filled with venom, she remained calm and looked him in the eyes as they talked. Even as things got more heated when he learned about the person behind the attack.

"Spare me the self-pity, and just look in the mirror, will you? You're blinded by your anger and it's going to get you killed. I don't care what you've learned or how strong you might be — if you go out there like this, it's not going to go well for you." Perhaps it was a very Jedi thing to say, but anger and hatred often made people rush into things. It makes them reckless, and if he were to attack this Sith and fail to end it, the Sith would know someone is targeting him.

It would become impossible to find him again.

"Let me handle this, and you'll have what you want. This Sith won't be anybody's problem anymore."

He snorted hard. "I have the Force maybe. But I have not properly used it in years. Years." Cedwyn stressed, "maybe I could have set off the device before you could stop me. Maybe. But you still could have demanded I disarmed him before we sparred. You chose to obey my conditions, my demands." Cedwyn pointed out. He was not going to make out like he was perfect, or that he was doing anything out of the kindness of his heart.

"Not all of us have the ideal upbringings to make us good people. Life can deal you a bad hand, leave you for chit and expect you to survive. I might do things that you dislike or thing are unnecessary. But the people you work for, they find them very necessary. Assassination contracts were from the GA as much as they were from the Maw, you saw that. I live in a morally grey world because this is a morally grey galaxy." Cedwyn growled in a low rumble, "not all of us can afford to look at things as black and white, as good and evil like you, Jedi Master. Perhaps you should consider the fact that not everyone can afford to see things as you do."

He shook his head, she wasn't listening, she wasn't understanding. "And what you say if someone told you to stay put, to do nothing while they went and dealt with the Sith organisation that killed your loved ones?" Cedwyn asked, because that was the situation he was in, he knew she would never let others handle that. The fierce independence was clear without the fighting. "That is what you are asking me to do. To sit out, to wait for you to handle something I need to do."

"It is not self-pity. I do not care if you think me scum, villainy or trash. I care about revenge, justice. And like I said, either you help me, or you leave and I handle it. Because I am not going to sit and do nothing, that is not the man I am." Cedwyn clenched his fists, his emotions were in handled and he wasn't going to flip out but he was remaining firm, never going to back down from this. "You have no idea of what I am capable of or not, we had one fight. I do not assume to know all of your life, do not assume you know all of what I can do. I am not going to let you leave on your own to face them, you are just going to have to accept that Jedi."

Valery pinched the bridge of her nose "You make too many assumptions, and you're far too emotionally compromised for this mission. It's not just that it's personal, but it's how you choose to respond to it. You'll get yourself killed." Valery let out a soft sigh and decided to drop the argument entirely. Between his own contradictions and emotionally charged responses, there was nothing to gain. He, however, made one critical assumption that she did have to address.

"You also just tried to assassinate someone, so don't for a minute think you're just walking away. If you cooperate by offering the information I need to pursue these Sith, then that works in your favor. But I'm not working with you." She also wasn't a judge or law enforcement, so his faith wasn't up for her to decide. She had played the part of a negotiator, stalling and doing what she could to secure the man he held hostage by strapping a bomb on him.

But now that he was free, she had no desire to work with the Echani anymore.

"Don't make this more difficult than you already have. All of this is your own fault."

"I make too many assumptions? Cheap talk from the Jedi sitting there accusing me of being too emotionally compromised that I cannot perform my work. You have no idea of how effective my work, my abilities and whether going on this mission is too compromising. You can sit there and lecture me all day if you wish, but that will get you no closer to the location of the Sith. I know where they are, this is my problem to deal with. One I avoided doing for long enough now." He was not allowing her to take charge of an issue that was his and had been his since he was 16.

He laughed when she attempted to say he would face crimes for his actions. "If anyone would be in trouble for their actions Jedi, it would be you. This is Hutt Space, you have no jurisdiction here and I am here contracted through the Bounty Hunter's guild, which has always had a close relationship with the Hutts. Might be the Sith that hired me, doesn't mean the Hutts will charge or stop me, they know who I am and rather hire me for a job later down the line than risk the consequences of punishing me." He held no fear to the risks of punishment, this was not Galactic Alliance space, her black and white views on crime would not work in Hutt Space.

"It might be my fault. I didn't stop the Sith when I could. But I am trying to stop them now, you fighting me over it, changes nothing. They destroyed my Temple, my home and ruined my life. My scars are mostly from them." Gesturing to the litany of scars on his hard, pale body. "I am going, you can either meet me in the hangar come morning or you can return home and let me deal with the Sith alone. The choice is yours, but I am going and you cannot stop me Jedi."

His voice was firm and there was nothing that would change it.

Valery was done arguing and drew the hilt of her lightsaber into her hand. She didn't ignite it yet, but the fire in her eyes made it clear that she was very much ready to defend herself. "You can keep your arguing for the courtroom. You've targeted Alliance citizens, so you will be held accountable for that, regardless of where you try to make your moves," Valery continued, her thumb inching closer to the ignition switch. He hadn't made any aggressive moves yet, but the tension in the atmosphere between them was already shifting.

"I will not join you anywhere and you will either come with me, or I'll take you in. Earlier, I fought without using the Force and you revealed that your own strength with it is limited. You're not going to win this fight," she assured him, not with arrogance but with realistic confidence. Valery was the most renowned warrior of the Jedi of this era, and she wasn't going to back down because of his stories and arguments.

"Don't make this harder than it needs to be."

Despite her warnings and stance towards him, she preferred not to fight at all. Hunting down Sith and taking them down was her strength as a former Jedi Shadow. So with the information he had, she'd be able to take care of this task without any problems. His insistence to interfere only complicated everything.

"Please, let me just handle this." With her lightsaber hilt ready, now was the last chance. It was either surrender or she'd have to engage, not to kill or harm, but to capture.

The simple movement to her Lightsaber had spoken volumes to Cedwyn. It was a sign that she would not listen, would not accept that this was a responsibility that he could not forgo. He had frozen, failed to act once and it turned him into this man. He could not fail to act again. He refused to let anyone force him to feel as he did all those years ago. Inhaling deeply, he put his leather jacket on, strapping his equipment to himself. Keeping them all sheathed and displaying no intentions of fighting. He knew better than to try his hand at defeating her in a fight. Especially in one that had no limitations or rules, he was far too out of touch with the Force and his Lightsaber forms were skilled but not mastered to the same level that he expected hers to be.

He moved in closer to Valery, looking down at her as a playful smirk formed on his lips. "You remind me a lot of someone I use to know. Just as determined." Cedwyn chuckled as he moved in closer again, it was a brave step but a necessary one. "Your eyes are quite beautiful. The fieriness they display is very..." The word escaped Cedwyn as he looked at her then swiftly leaned in and attempted to kiss her. It would be a brief, but deeply passionate kiss if the attempted worked. Even if she recoiled and pushed him away, it would work in his favour. For as much as the kiss was stemmed from his attraction to her, he also wanted to use it as a distraction.

Breaking the focus of the attractive Jedi Master to allow him to jump through the window of the hotel room. Shattered glass cutting his clothing and skin, but allowed him to fall from a fair height and land on the street. Darting away into the shadows, it was clear that Cedwyn had no intentions of being captured even if this wasn't the Sith that he had needed to face.

While he had escaped. The Jedi Master would find tucked into the waistband of her bottoms was a note. Detailing the location of the Sith and stating that this is where she would find him again. Stating that if she wished to have him see justice then all she would have to do was help him defeat the city and he would consider surrendering.

With every step he took towards her, Valery's eyes seemed to narrow a little further. The grip on her weapon tightened and her body seemed to tense, as she tried to get a read on him. He wasn't making it obvious whether he was surrendering or about to attack, but she wasn't going to wait too long before finding that out for herself. But right as he took that last step and began to speak, Valery could feel his intent suddenly flowing out into the Force.

So the second he suddenly moved forward, Valery recoiled back and pushed herself away against his chest. She turned her head away and felt something burn within her. How dare he attempt something like that. Immediately after his attempt to kiss her, Valery turned back around and watched as he jumped through the window and landed in the street below.

The shattered glass had hurt him, and the impact on the ground likely wasn't comfortable either, but a chase through the streets still had a lot of risk to it. If they clashed, innocent people could get harmed, and she had to avoid that at all costs. But believing it was still necessary to capture him, she prepared herself for a jump... until she noticed something.
