TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Kyber enhance plasma cutter with precision tractor beam
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Reactor power focused plasma stream focused through Kyber crystals
  • Ammunition Capacity: Very Large
  • Effective Range: Personal
  • Rate of Fire: High
  • Damage Output: Extreme
  • Recoil: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • A pair of of plasma cutter turrets that when focused through the Varpeline crystals have a similar cutting performance to Varpeline light sabers. The range is extremely short for a ship mounted weapon, as little as a few hundred metres.
  • High precision tractor beam emitter run by the same targeting computers allow them to work efficiently together.
  • Dedicated St2x targeting computer
STRENGTHS
  • Unparalleled cutting performance - plasma cutters, already designed to cut through hulls with Varpeline enhancement means that very few materials can resist.
  • Ease of use - the dedicated targeting system allows the user to highlight a section to be 'disected' and allow the computer to synchronise the lasers and tractor beam to do the job. Although manual control is possible.
  • Flexible angles with tractor emitter - tractor beam can point almost 360° around and rotate to point straight up (down?) from the mount.
  • Excellent power performance - the weapon can be cycled rapidly as needed, allowing precision cutting. It has long potential power use, only being limited by the ship's reactor.
WEAKNESSES
  • Poor performace against ray shields - given enough time the energy transfer from the cutter can overload a shield, but this would be impractical and very power intensive.
  • No explosive force - theoretically these lasers could be used in combat, but their lack of explosive force means their damage would be restricted to a slice, in the same way as a light saber attacking a fast moving vehicle. Something that most vehicles could likely sustain.
  • Restricted laser movement - lasers can only point approximately 60° from horizontal
  • Extremely short range - for a starship weapon, its range of only a few hundred metres is tiny making it very poor as an offensive weapon.
DESCRIPTION

The original plasma cutters were designed as mining and cutting implements by Archangel Manufactorum. At the request of Cass Gemini, their power was routed through Varpeline crystals, famed for their use to improve cutting. She also requested enhanced targeting to allow them to be used to remove specific targets.

The resultant emplacement is a surgeons tools, enabling the ship to stand off nearby and remove components from the target vessel. It is still fairly risky to the components as the lasers are powerful and indiscriminate about what they cut through.

They are best suited to use against unshielded, stationary targets as using them against moving targets just leaves quick slashes across the target. Depending on where that slash happens it could be fatal, but would be entirely down to luck. It also doesn't work wel against targets with energy shields, so removing the shields, or firing them from within the shield bubble would be necessary.
