Altier-ior Motives

Altier

The Vindicator hovered in orbit over the planet of Altier. The assault cruiser was almost laying in wait, like a predator searching for it's prey.

Down on the surface, Bastin Arenais, otherwise known as Bates, was sitting in a cantina in the city of Delfor. The planet was used to the riff-raff of the Galaxy, it being the home to plenty of pirates and cultists, so it wasn't as though he stood out. He sat at a table, whiskey in front of him, an entire bottle with a half filled glass. Was he a drunkard? No. Bates was no lightweight. His stern gaze was enough to let everyone know that he had his full wits about him. If anyone wanted to test him, he wasn't against throwing his fists. If they were Force users? Not a problem. His Hussar pistol and/or Punisher Pistol could take care of that.

Through indirect channels, Bates put in a call for additions to his crew. He had some jobs that needed to be done and they required certain skillsets. While he waited for any potential candidates to arrive, he drank and kept his eyes on the holo-screens up on the walls. Altier wasn't far from Commenor Systems Alliance space, and with the recent Sith attack on Yutan, there was plenty of coverage on the holo-news. Bates' eyes narrowed as images of his brother, [member="Veiere Arenais"] and his wife [member="Lady Kay"] appeared, displaying them as heros for stopping the destruction and bringing about peace. "The bigger they are...", he muttered under his breath and took a swig of his whiskey.

Patience was about the only virtue that he had left.

Work seemed to be on a down low for the assassin/freelancer, the criminal organization for which Tanasuki worked for has quieted down due to several reason, on being the attack on Yutan. Being force sensitive didn't really help either, and the Jedi or other force users being extra careful in meant a slightly slip up in using force powers would result in a trip down town. A way of planet was needed, something that made more sense, like being part of a crew of some sort, which was why [member="Bates"] peaked interest.

The young force user entered the bar, its appearance not to dissimilar to the ones on Na Shadda, though probably with a better menu. Tanasuki had not been part of a proper crew before, or really worked with anyone else besides family on the odd occasion, this experience would be new. Looking around most present were the usually rift raft, some giving odd glances towards the young assassin, either due to the young age or attire, though one person stood out from the rest. A mature man with grey hair at off from the rest of the crowd, seeming waiting, contemplating, of what ever old men did.

Ignoring the lewd looks from the other patron Tanasuki made a slow beeline for the man, he had to be the one who sent out that message, "Are you [member="Bates"], if so I was interested in who would be accepted into this new, crew of yours".

Since leaving the lavish life of a senator behind she had taken on many a bounty and odd job, now she was ready for a stable work environment, she like always carried her twin DC-17 blaster pistols one on each side. Also on her she had a vibroblade stashed inside her shoe, on the backside in her waistband she kept a single DC-15 blaster pistol just incase

She would make her way into the cantina slowly, many here knew she was a senator so no one looked up or made eye contact with her at any point along her way, she would head to the back corner where she saw a man she had never seen before, she knew that must be her man so she would stride over to him, "You the one looking for a crew? If so count me in"

Another rundown cantina on a backwater world. Teroch figured he would be used to these places by now. His line of work almost always led to such environments. Even still, he hated being here. The steel tips of Teroch's boots clicked across the floor. All the usual elements hard at work, assaulting his sense as soon as he entered the establishment. Smoke wafted through the air like thick fog, drunks and degenerates argued, music thumped in the background. "Or'dinii aruetiise." The Mandalorian cursed and he stalked through the crowd. Only one thing would make him brave this place, the promise of pay. If the man that called him here could make good on his promises it would be worth it. If not, well Teroch could use with some target practice.

It was not hard to spot at the back of the place. Two women already flanked him, other potential hires no doubt. The idea of sharing profits did not sit quite right with the mercenary, but there was little he could do about that. "Bates." The static hum of Teroch's voice cutting through the ambience as the Mandalorian stared down at the man. "Gar kaysh?" He asked, then waited. The ire in Teroch already rising as he hoped the trip had not been a wasted one.

Or'dinii aruetiise: Fool foreigners.

Gar kaysh: You him?

The first to arrive was [member="Tanaski Yumi"] . She was young and by the sounds of some the cat calls and hungry looks from some of the patrons, Bates wasn't sure just what profession she was in. Yet as soon as she asked about joining his crew, he knew what she was after. He gave her a curt nod. "Sit." It wasn't a request, but moreso a command. If people were going to work for him, he needed to know that they could follow orders. In this game hesitation could mean death.

[member="Thalia Kaia"] strolled up to the table next. Her face was somewhat familiar, more than likely one that he'd caught on the holo-newsfeeds every now and again. But it wasn't the kind of face that made her stand out so completely that everyone would know her name. Bates watched her approach, and more importantly watched everyone else avoid eye contact with her. That was interesting. Was it because of the amount of weapons she had or the attitude she carried with it? He'd find out one way or another. A curt nod was given to her too in response to her question, and again the same word was spoken. "Sit."

The Mandalorian tongue was heard, which drew Bates' attention. Inwardly he smiled. He had grown fond of some of them in his lifetime, working with them, training with them and going on many missions. Sure there were a lot of Mandalorians that worked purely for the credits. But that could be the same with anyone of them arriving at his table. [member="Teroch Werda"] approached. Bates could understand the Mandalorian tongue well enough, he just never spoke it himself. It was a useful trick when caught in a sticky situation, making it seem as though he didn't understand when in fact he really did. Bates gave that small curt nod again. "Sit."

He leaned back and reached out behind him, grabbing a few empty glasses in hand and dropping them on the table. He poured some whiskey into each and slid a glass over to each person that decided to sit down. If any one of them didn't sit, he kept the glass in front of himself. "I man my own assault cruiser with a large crew. Top notch men they are, an asset to any fleet. But..if you take them out of the ship and onto land, well let's just say that they are like a fish outta water. I need a crew that can handle a number of missions, whatever they may be." Bates looked to each one that sat down. "Where do your talents lay?"

The man had a commanding voice, he did not seem like one to play coy with, "Okey", shrugging slightly Tanasuki sat down getting comfortable just as another entered the room the bar. From what had been going around recently on the senators was easily recognized, though it seemed strange that they would come here, perhaps they were looking for excitement and adventure, the array of weapons on their belt seemed to indicate such a goal.

The next was a Mandoalorian, seemly experience, either a mercenary or bounty hunter, but the again their wasn't much else their kind did. Both sat down with [member="Bastin Arenais"] commanding statement again before the potential employer inquired about their skills sets for in the ground mission, perfect. "I may be young but am good with blades, they are cortosis coated and I have done training in anti-force user combat with experience in Teras Kasi". "In addition I am a stealthy and quiet person, light and quick on my feet, and know the general basics of hacking, but don't take my word on it, I'd be happy to show my skill".

Tanasuki mulled a bit before adding one final skill, "I guess in a way I'm also a master of disguise, able to modulate my voice to sound differently, make assassinating people easier", "I bet none of you realized I'm actually a guy".

Thalia would have a seat on the edge of a chair, she would look at the man, he seemed to recognize her. Most did but most didnt know her name for she was only a senator from a rinky dink planet that most didnt know existed. She would listen to the others speak and then clear her throat and speak "I have a way with blasters as well as edged weapons, I have excellent diplomatic skills if we get in a tight spot that talking could get us out of, I have experience slicing, as well as with binary explosives" She said before taking a sip of her whiskey

Teroch put his back to the wall, crossing his arms as he watched the others sit. Bates seemed to be a serious enough man. If nothing else he boasted a good deal of confidence. It was always a coin toss dealing with his type. Their bravado either leading them to greatness or a shallow grave, accompanied by all that followed them. Yet the pay was good and Teroch's savings were beginning to run dry. The thought of planet hopping for small contracts turning the Mandalorian's mood sour. If he could find a way on to this crew he would. It would be a nice change of pace, and a steady change of income.

"I fight." Teroch switched to galactic basic for the benefit of the others around the table. "If you want to know more than that wait and see for yourself." His thick Mandalorian accent causing the words to sound harsh and awkward. "One should not so easily reveal things of oneself." The Mandalorian added and he casting a glance at the two others there. Then said no more. All of them were strangers, come here for promise of work, but the galaxy was a dangerous place. You can never tell one's true purpose or motive. Teroch did not plan on jumping into a Sarlacc pit as it were, and decided to keep everyone at arms reach until he was assured of their trust.

OOC: Sorry for the delay.

[member="Tanaski Yumi"] was the first to sit down and the first to have a glass of whiskey sent their way. Bates listened intently, his mind going over the different scenarios by which Tanaski could be useful. His expression never changed, except for when the man behind the disguise was revealled. Bates had to laugh out loud at that one, a rare glimpse of pure emotions that he tended to usually keep bottled up inside. "I bet that revelation would make any man second guess what their eyes tell them."

His focus turned to [member="Thalia Kaia"] as she sat down. Whiskey was sent her way and he was pleased that she took it. Bates listened to what she claimed that her talents were. Usually when one goes first, the other tries to top them. But not in case. The bigger test would be in seeing them actually work in the field. He gave Thalia a small nod of approval before having another drink of his whiskey.

Bates took note that [member="Teroch Werda"] did not sit down. Instead he just stood nearby in a pose that either spoke of defiance or of a sense of ease. Whether or not he'd be hard to work with remained to be seen. True to the Mandalorian way, he didn't reveal much about himself. Bates respected that. He wasn't an open book for others either.

He pulled out a datapad next, turning it on and locking the page on a contract for them to look over. There was no spot for them to sign. Tanaski was given it first. "Here is a basic contract for service. This isn't some job where you only get paid after certain jobs are done. Your pay comes weekly. Bonuses are given after successful missions. I run a tight ship where exists a chain of command. Any nonsense or subordination and you get booted out in an escape pod in whatever corner of the Galaxy we're in. I can't have people on my team that I can't trust. Any questions?"

A sly grin crept across his face, it was kind of funny seeing [member="Bastin Arenais"] lose his cool, "True, but there are some guys that do not care, had a mando take fancy in me once, even though he knew". Tanasuki took a sip from his drink while the others explained their skills and what not, each one being fairly stereotypical for their look and past jobs.

When everyone done talking it was time for business talk, Tanasuki had been part of other organization and was familiar with how people were paid for long periods of time. He nodded in agreement at his words, weekly pay, bonuses for mission etc, the catch came with 'tight' and 'chain of command'. "I guess ill have to act responsible for once, though I have a question, when do we get notified of missions?".

[member="Teroch Werda"] l [member="Thalia Kaia"]

Teroch lurched towards the table at let his eyes fall to the data-pad. This part of the job was not wholly unfamiliar to him. The sort of people Teroch usually worked with preferred using verbal agreements to seal contracts, but a few high end clients had pressed for signatures. A soft grunt and few strokes later his runes appeared on the line. Honor compelled him to obey his employer until a contract's completion, but the Mandalorian had never committed to something so long term. In truth a part of him was a mite anxious. There was a strange foreboding burying itself in the pit of his stomach. Had Teroch made a mistake in all this? Only time could tell.

At the moment though he was beholden to the Captain. "I will follow you until the contract expires or you breach it's terms, alor'ad." A slight nod following his words, Teroch returned to his place against the wall. There was not much else for him to say. Whether the others committed or not was of no consequence to Teroch. The only thing weighing on him at the moment being the time remaining before his first stipend.

Alor'ad: Captain

Oh, Bates could only imagine that there'd be some that didn't care whether [member="Tanaski Yumi"] was male or female. Whatever floats their boat. However he had more important things to focus on than carnal relations. They only got in the way of his goals.

Tanaski's question was not an unusual one in this line of work. He looked to each of them as he responded. "You'll get notified as soon as all of the preperations have been met. I don't work for anyone but myself and only hire my ship and crew out when needed. But don't assume that that means work will be few and far between."

[member="Teroch Werda"] caught his attention as he took the datapad. As with everyone, he watched him closely. The Mandalorian hid much, just as Bates did. Regardless, he signed the contract too. A nod was given to him. "Good man." Now his eyes fell to [member="Thalia Kaia"] . She was the last to sign. Perhaps there was a hesitation on her part? Hesitation can be dangerous and often led to death. Hopefully it wasn't a habit of hers.
