The Battlefleet Vandemar puts its effort into protecting its most valuable assets, the heavy cruisers, by utilising formidable escorts to take care of the attacks the larger ship cannot handle themselves. The Ala-class frigate is designed exactly for this purpose. Protect the capital ships from attacks of starfighters, bombers and warheads. Its large array of point-defence weapons make it extremely potent in dealing with waves of attack craft or swarms of torpedoes and missiles, reducing their otherwise lethal attacks to mosquito bites.
The Ala-class is one of the two main frigates the Battlefleet utilises, mainly for escort duties but also to go on patrol. Operating in groups of two to four ships, the Ala is especially dangerous when combined with a larger ship, but suffers greatly if opposed by capital ships alone as it does not have the defensive measures to survive a prolonged broadside-to-broadside action. Yet it´s speed makes it an ideal chaser for corvettes and bigger attack craft like bombers which are usually too slow to get away, using its light turbolasers to deadly effect.
