Air Superiority: Search and Destroy Training (Rebels)

( OOC note: Kages ship http://starwarsrp.net/topic/28776-adril-class-starfighter/ )

Kage sat in his fighter, calmly toying with a couple of the nobs controlling his stabilizers. He sat just shy of an asteroid field, patiently waiting for the others to join him. Today was going to be a simple training exercise; while avoiding the asteroids they had to destroy the very cheap drones he hid throughout. The rebels weren't filled with money, but they made sure they made do with what they had.

But waiting was always boring for the man. He continued to fiddle, his ship swaying back and forth because of it. "This is what I get for coming early.."

Roth cut the engines on the fighter and leaned back in his seat, adjusting his helmet straps, and watching as the fighter [member="Kage"] was in drifted closer. He nudged the controls and face a touch of thrust, causing the fighter to drift slightly to starboard. A tap on the braking thrusters slowed it to a stop next to and slightly behind the other.

"Shadow Leader, this is Shadow One, reporting. What d'ya have for us today?" He was looking forward to putting this Adril class fighter through paces, to see how it compared to the other fighters he'd flown. He'd gotten some familiarity with it en roe to this asteroid field, but not intense maneuverinlikemwouldmbenrequired here in the asteroid field.

"For now we're waiting for Rouge Squadron. With both companies small, we'll be doing joint training and missions until our wings fill out. This is going to be a simple search and destroy exercise. Once Rouge company comes in, we'll progress through."

Kage spoke with the authority of a clone commando. In truth, he was one, but it wasn't information he would give out just yet.

Sannika Brynn

Let me tell you about a Rebellion...
Sannika was hardly experienced, and most might laugh that the title of squadron leader had been bestowed upon her. She had racked up hundreds of hours and hundreds of kills in the simulators, but she had barely gotten any real flight time in the Alliance's Adril-class fighters, and never before had she done in-flight combat training. This would be a new experience for everyone in the upstart Rebel starfighter corps.

The tukian twi'lek was just glad to be here. Dodging asteroids was a little tasking, but there was something serene about the silence. As long as she stayed in the cockpit, everything would be A-OK. This was her dream!

Hanging about a half-kilometer off the portsides of the Shadow craft, Sannika called out to her fellow pilots with ecstatic anticipation. "Yo! Rogue Leader in, Shadow Leader. Rogue Two, sound off!" She was thrilled just to be here.

"Roger that, Shadow One. Waiting for Rogue Squadron." He leaned over and activated the scanners on his ship, studying readouts and getting a feel for the range. Not bad. There was Rogue Leader hanging off a half kilometer. No sign of Rogue Two yet. He wasn't even sure who Rogue Two was. He could hear Rogue Leader's excitement though. A little odd for a squadron leader leader. Normally they're more experienced and focused by the time they reach that rank. Oh well. This whole alliance was a touch odd. Not to mention small.

He settled back in his seat, watching the asteroids swirl and orbit among each other, like some intricately improvised ballet. That was what drew him to piloting. Space itself, in all it's danger, and even more of its beauty. There was almost some sort of siren's song to it, one he could never resist, and still couldn't. He was one of those born to love in space. His head always been there, but the rest of him eventually caught up, and they didn't care too much to stay down on the ground.

Silver and blue lights danced across the view ports, bathing the interior of the cockpit in two-toned waves of light. The hyperspace lane carrying him across the vast expanse of space at speeds once barely fathomed before the tunnels coordinates were plotted, mapped and structured. Ever since the Nyriaanan had shifted from the depths of the Unknown regions attempting to discover a new direction in life, he'd found himself gravitating towards being a team player. It went against his nature, having been cutting his teeth out in the black on his own - and yet the circumstances had conspired to make things necessary to run with a group. He wasn't going to be on anyone's crew - he knew that much, but Gates had been a spacer from the first moment he strapped into a starship. While he might not be tbe best team player on foot, he was certainly an avid wingman, and he'd prove his salt. The console lit up like Lifeday, alerting him to the coordinates he'd jabbed in from Rogue Leader.

"Hey hey, they're playin' my song." Gates surmised as he released the lock from the yoke and drew down the hyperdrive actuator, letting the craft eject from the hyperspace tunnel, and visually blink into existence. The Wild Goose maneuvered towards the three awaiting ships just outside of an asteroid field that loomed in the distance. The HWK-290's older design still held a rustic charm to the boxy feel of it's cockpit and body shape. It was still one of the most nimble and agile crafts in the Galaxy. What it lacked in armor plating, it made up for in maneuverability. There was a reason that she was named the Wild Goose, simply because anyone who decided to go after Gates was in for that kind of chase. Bright blue light erupted behind each of the craft's wing sections propelling it through the star-lit sky and towards the awaiting formation. He hit the party channel with his Rogue Squadron leader and moved into position.

:: Rogue Two...reporting for....:: Gates paused as he shifted his gaze, locking eyes with someone who certainly not a spunky twi-lek. He'd paralleled right beside one of the Shadow squadron fighters, which caused his face to scrunch for a moment. ::...hang on....:: Gates immediately jerked the yoke to the side, thrusters fired off in succession as his craft dipped to the left and leveled up, inverting his fighter and drawing the Wild Goose up and over all three fighters in a loose barrel roll to right himself as he landed right beside his actual commander of the squad. :: Hey there kiddo, ready to play space dodge ball? :: He asked with a wink from his craft, and hit the stabilizers to float in concord with the line up. His channel was changed to the open broadcast for both the Shadow and Rogue squadron. :: Goose is ready to fly. :: Gates offered a two fingered salute for those that could see him.

Roth gave half a salute and a grin to [member="Harland Gates"] as the man parked his ship next to Roth's, and then spiraled up and over to park it near [member="Sannika Brynn"]. He craned his neck around to follow it he ship up and over. He nodded. That was pretty good. Very good actually. He wasn't sure his fighter had the maneuvering thrusters for something like that. But then, fighters weren't supposed to stay in one place.

He tapped the comm again, "Nice flying, Rogue Two, for an old freighter." There was a touch of humor in his voice, and a light-heartedness, playing on the usually friendly rivalry between starfighter pilots and freighter pilots. He recognized the model though, and that it was actually very maneuverable.

"Shadow Lead, all wings accounted for. Yup." The twi'lek glanced to her left to see her squadmate complete his acrobatic maneuver, setting into pace right alongside her little fighter. She wondered what kind of payload he was carrying in that bucket. She joked at him, "Need some red stripes on that battlecruiser of yours, yo."

Directing her gaze back to her starboard to observe the distant glow of tepid engines, she called up to the leader of this little operation. "We're a-go, Shadow. Bring it on!"
