| DESCRIPTION |
| The Aether MSS-21 is an updated variant of the Kolto-class Medical Shuttle, which was first designed and manufactured for use by the Galactic Alliance. With the need for medical care being paramount, and life and death often decided in mere seconds, the MSS-21 was produced to be disseminated to the public market to ensure that no matter where an individual was, they could be reached and medical care provided, whilst also rapidly transporting them to a waiting Medical Frigate. The MSS-21 retains many of the design elements and aesthetics of its predecessor, and is, in fact, essentially just a larger version of the Kolto-class. Where the MSS-21 stands out from its predecessor is the inclusion of additional support and equipment that was lacking from the Kolto-class, which can be seen in the addition of an FX-10 Medical Assistant Droid that has been paired with the 2-1B Surgical Droid that was the standard for the Kolto-class. These two droids often assist the onboard Medics in patient triage and care as they are transported to an appropriate medical facility. Likewise, the MSS-21 retains the Bacta Tanks and has been upgraded to carry two additional tanks - each of which is utilized to care for those critical patients that require immediate medical attention. Additionally, the MSS-21 has been equipped with two further Kolto Tanks, bringing the total to four, which are available for less intensive cases that still require immediate or moderate medical attention, or for those individuals who may have an allergy to Bacta. Like its predecessors, the MSS-21 was designed to provide medical response - be it after a natural disaster, or being deployed into a warzone - and as such, they lack any form of offensive weaponry. This requires that the flight crew rely more on its heavier defensive capabilities and agility to overcome those that would fire upon a Medical Shuttle or to outrun a hazardous situation. As it retains many of the design features of its predecessor, it has also inherited a particular design flaw that can be seen in the location of the craft's primary sublight drive systems. Housed in two nacelle-like structures just aft of the vessel, these systems can be easily targeted, and damage to them has the potential of crippling the vessel, thus rendering it inoperable. Additionally, the flight canopy of the craft is also highly exposed at the extreme forward of the vessel, with both the Pilot and Co-Pilot being sequestered in their own cockpits and incapable of controlling the other's primary systems. However, the true strength of the MSS-21 is in its capability to carry a high number of patients, which has otherwise outweighed these design flaws. The Aether MSS-21 provides the galaxy with a sturdy and reliable medical transport that both military personnel and civilians can rely on to receive the help they need by providing moderate medical care while they are transported to waiting Medical Frigates or more sophisticated Medical Facilities. |
