STRENGTHS
  • Pulse Mass Mines - A continued mainstay armament that has been equipped on these vessels is a specialized space mine - originally developed by the Hapes Consortium - which produced a similar effect to that of a Gravity Well Projector when deployed.
  • Increased Arsenal - The main focus of this design was placed on the arsenal and further expanding upon the original, already impressive, array of weaponry. It was this focus that resulted in the addition of heavier armaments and their additional support systems that further enhanced the armaments of these crafts.
  • Interceptor - It was the extensive redesigns and retrofitting of the original Hapan Nova Cruiser that eventually led to the development of the Aether HC-80, with these variants being known to retain the nimble maneuverability of its predecessors, though have also been noted to have a higher speed at both sublight and light speeds compared to other Heavy Cruisers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Light Starfighter Capacity - The design of the Aether HC-80 was focused on an increased arsenal, and favored speed and maneuverability; however, this came at the cost of a depleted hangar capacity. Because of this, these vessels are only capable of supporting and deploying a single starfighter squadron from the hangar and must rely on dedicated carriers or additional escort flights to provide further support.
  • Fuselage Connector - Many of the design elements and aesthetics of previous iterations are present in the current design of these craft, with the most notable being the connector between the bridge and the inverted V-shaped main body at the rear of the vessel. While this section is noticeably shorter than in previous designs, it remains a structural weak point in the overall design of these vessels; sufficient damage to this section can prevent the crew from traversing throughout the craft, and in the worst-case scenario, split the vessel in half.
  • Sublight Drive Systems - Situated along the center-point of the port and starboard wing-like structures extending from the main central body of these vessels is a nacelle-like structure. These structures are the primary Drive Systems that propel the vessel forward, and the location and ease of access to these drive systems can potentially result in damage, which in turn can cripple the vessel.
DESCRIPTION
In many ways, the Aether HC-80 is a larger variant of the smaller Aether NC-Q01 that had undergone an extensive redesign and retrofitting to produce the vessel that we see here today. These vessels retained many of the design features and aesthetics of it's progenitors, and remain pleasing to the eye in line with the Hapes cultural focus on beauty, and a streamlined form, these craft retained that favoritism for speed and maneuverability. Like its smaller counterparts, the HC-80 is a capable interceptor, with increased acceleration and capable of reaching higher Sublight and Light Speeds when compared to other Heavy Cruisers of a similar size. The arsenal of these vessels is also a notable point, featuring an expanded array of armaments that includes the Pulse Mass Mine - a Hapan weapon in origin - that produces an effect similar to a Gravity Well Projector.

However, to achieve these capabilities, other aspects of the design were sacrificed to accommodate these additional systems and armaments. The original design of the hangar that was included has been greatly reduced in these vessels, as they are now only capable of supporting and deploying a single Starfighter squadron. The Aether HC-80 also shares many of the design elements and aesthetics of previous iterations, such as the neck-like connector between the bridge and the V-shaped main body at the rear of the vessel. While this section is notably shorter in the HC-80 compared to the NC-Q01, it remains a structural weak point in the design with the potential of limiting or preventing the crew from traversing the vessel, or splitting the vessel in half in the worst-case scenario.

The primary purpose of the Aether HC-80 is to serve as a Command Vessel, often deployed alongside the Aether NC-Q01 and Aether BD-55 in strike groups to draw enemy fire away from the lighter defenses of the NC-Q01, and opening up strike opportunities for the BD-55 during an engagement. The Aether HC-80 has a long line of historic progenitors and predecessors that have accomplished great feats and the impossible in a multitude of conflicts - and is more than ready to live up to those names, deeds, and heroics. For now, they bide their time in the depths of the Unknown Regions and Wild Space, silently protecting the Corporate Worlds of Aether Systems and waiting for their moment to strike.
