STRENGTHS

DESCRIPTION

Neryn's experiences on Nordra have had a profound effect on his combat doctrine. In no uncertain terms, the planet's sheer meteorological ferocity made clear the folly of relying on flame alone.

Aeglos resembles an ornamented sword hilt, albeit one apparently lacking in a visible blade. The grip is fairly long, suitable for comfortable one or two-handed wielding. Despite this apparently-incomplete construction, Aeglos hides a remarkable (and lethal) secret.

Within the grip is a miniature thermal-null arrangement not dissimilar to that found in the more common Errant rifle. When activated, the hilt generates and shapes an elegant, tapered longsword blade made of diamond-hard condensed ice.

The blade in question is surrounded by a constant, dry-ice like hissing, and emits a soft aura of freezing fog and whirling snow particles.

While it is elegant and easy on the eyes, Aeglos is far more than a pointed cutting and stabbing implement. Much like the ranged weapon on which it is based, its icy substance functions by way of precision-arresting molecular motion within its area of effect, causing an absolute-zero temperature plunge.

The ice-blade thus carries a lethal heat-draining effect, and a mere touch can entirely suck thermal and kinetic energy from the surrounding area.

The resultant flash-crystallizing effect can immediately freeze intracellular water, inflicting catastrophic remote nerve damage and tissue death. Structural bodies (such as bone or muscle) can lose the ability to retain tension, causing them to collapse entirely.

Inanimate objects (such as droids, armor, vehicles, or other solid weapons) face similar challenges. Contact with Aeglos' blade can cause such structures to lose ductility, rendering them brittle and easily shattered. Many lesser weapons have been broken upon mere contact with Aeglos. Surprisingly, this weapon is even somewhat effective against energy shielding, as its heat-draining effects threaten the thermal cohesion of most such barriers. Repeated blows can collapse many varieties of shielding in short order.

While Aeglos cannot be destroyed or blocked by most lightsabers, it cannot defend against them, either. Unlike more typical Cortosis/Phrik/Beskar solid blades, its structure does not interact with or repel a lightsaber's magnetic field. Should its ice blade meet that of a lightsaber, both weapons will simply pass through one another unharmed.

While Aeglos' iceblade is exceptionally sharp and resilient, it is lacking in the structural pliancy found in more typical metallic weapons. Extremely powerful impacts or effects can shatter the blade, though Aeglos can replenish it shortly afterward.

Nor are this weapon's cryogenic abilities strictly restrained to its own immediate locale. Like the Errant that inspired it, Aeglos can project both sprays of heat-cancelling bolts, and solid freezing rays. These can be utilized in a variety of creative ways, such as creating ice slicks on surfaces, generating solid structures or barricades of ice, or simply freezing objects (and enemies) solid.

Aeglos' primary purpose, however, is to combat rival pyrokinetics, a task it fulfills with style and efficacy. This is accomplished through the same method the weapon uses to create all of its effects; by cancelling or weakening heat within a given area. A simple swing of its blade can dissipate fire effects of all sorts, causing even the fiercest flames to sputter.

When no longer needed, Aeglos' deactivation causes the blade to evaporate in a whirl of freezing mist, until such time as it is called upon again.

Despite all appearances, Aeglos contains no Force-reliant elements. It is entirely technological in nature and operation, and indeed, is impervious to Force-based manipulation of its electronic functions.
