STRENGTHS
  • Ion Weaponry - The Aegis-class is equipped with multiple Ion-based weaponry meant to render a target disabled and provide the pilot and the craft it is escorting the time to flee rather than continue an engagement.
  • Astromech Slot - Located internally behind the pilot's chair is a slot in which an Astromech droid can be employed to assist with basic in-flight operations, navigation, or enact minor repairs as needed.
  • Agile - Designed to provide a fast-moving and maneuverable escort craft, the Aegis-class is known for its speed and the ease with which it can execute in-flight maneuvers.
WEAKNESSES
  • Ion Weaponry - The outfitting of Ion-based weaponry was done by design and thus the starfighter is incapable of destroying a target or being outfitted with heavier weaponry without refitting or redesigning the craft.
  • Limited Squadron Size - Due in part to its larger size and the additional room that would be required to house these vessels, the Aegis-class is deployed in a limited squadron size not exceeding more than four vessels per squadron.
  • Sublight Drive System - The primary drive system is easily accessible and targeted, opening the system to damage, and potentially resulting in the Starfighter becoming crippled and incapable of further operations.
DESCRIPTION
The Aegis-class Escort Starfighter is often seen in the company of an Amidala-class Diplomatic Cruiser as it carries the ideals of Peace and Prosperity throughout the Galactic Alliance. Just as it is important for a member of the Federal Assembly to easily move throughout the territories of the Galactic Alliance on diplomatic missions, it is needed to ensure their safety and security as a new conflict encourages more brazen attacks by Pirates and Raiders. The Aegis-class was thus developed to provide the Senate Guard with a capable Starfighter that was both reliable and agile in the face of any threat that may fall upon a Senator during their travels.

Designed to withstand the heavier laser cannons that Pirates, Raiders, and Marauders are known to favor, the vessel is also more than able to stand toe-to-toe against most Starfighters commonly available on the market and then some. The Aegis-class is also known to boast a formidable array of weaponry which it can bring to bear as it discharges its orders to protect the lives of Diplomatic Envoys during these missions. However, it should be noted, that the weapons installed on the Starfighter are largely Ion-based weaponry meant to disable, not destroy, enemy craft in order to provide a window in which the Starfighter and its charge can flee into Hyperspace. In order to accommodate these weapon systems and the additional boost to its defensive capabilities, the vessel is larger than most standard Starfighters available on the market. Due to this additional size, the Aegis-class is limited in their deployment, as their squadron sizes consist of only four starfighters per squadron due to the volume of space that they occupy in a hangar bay.

Where the Starfighter shines is in its ability to employ an Astromech Droid which is slotted into an area located directly behind the pilot's chair in the cockpit. When utilized in this way, the droid often assists with basic in-flight operations, and navigation, and can enact minor repairs as needed to keep the Starfighter operational. A more noticeable drawback is the size of its Drive System, which provides some assistance in boosting its speed; the location of which is easily accessible and can be damaged, potentially crippling the starfighter. The Aegis-class, however, is a capable Starfighter and provides the Senate Guard with the means to further secure the safety of the Senators of the Federal Assembly.
