Rusty
Purveyor of Fine Weaponry
After what seemed like three weeks of consideration, Rusty shrugged.
"Eh, kark it. That's called the RR-1 Recoilless Rifle, and yes you can shoot it. I was saving it for the end, but I reckon we can go ahead and figure out if you're gonna blow yourself up."
The range wasn't configured for the RR-1, few underground ranges were, but Rusty wasn't unduly worried. He was mechanical, after all. The overpressure wouldn't bother him in the slightest. Still, it wouldn't do to turn his new intern's internal (slight mechanical pun chuckle here) organs into mush, so he casually pushed a button on a remote in his pocket.
[member="Lok Maxus"] would likely notice her ears pop as the ventilation system kicked in and the air pressure dropped ever so slightly. And ordinary ventilation system simply wouldn't be able to cope with the overpressure, but this one was special. At the instant of firing, it would evacuate exactly as much atmosphere from the room as the RR-1 would have displaced, creating a net pressure difference of exactly 0. It would then, at a much slower rate, blow fresh air through the range and evacuate the propellant fumes. It was an elegant solution to an inelegant problem, and one that conveniently allowed them not to get blown the kark up.
Meanwhile, a shield deployed over the firing line, its faint blue glow there to keep any stray debris from blasting back onto the shooter. A holographic sign appeared in front of the two. It was bright, flashing, and neon green and said "Stick The Barrel In Here." Here referring to a slightly discolored patch of the shield, which was surrounded by a flashing pink neon circle. That was the firing port. It would allow them to fire through, without allowing anything to come back out.
"Okay, so here's how it works..."
After a few minutes' instruction, Rusty had the Zabrak girl loaded and aimed into the firing port. He had given her the basic rundown of how to operate the weapon, as well as a couple of things to look out for, but he had neglected to deliver Rule #1 for firing a recoilless rife: Recoilless rifles aren't. The RR-1 wasn't bad as far as such things went, though the canister round he had loaded would kick like a mule regardless, but he was kinda hoping Lok would take the name at face value. If she even halfway braced herself she'd be fine. If not, he would likely see her flying across the room here shortly.
"Fire when ready."
