Discussion Absolute DC

Not sure if anyone here read comic books bur I thought I'd make a thread to see if anyone has read the DC Absolute line that's currently running. I've caught up completely on Absolute Superman and Batman, and I'm currently a few issues away from being caught up with Absolute Wonder Woman.

Was just wondering if anyone else was reading and had thoughts on it all so far. Personally, as a lifelong DC Comics guy, I am very much loving it. It might be my favorite comic line I've ever read- I mean they are genuinely such unique takes on the characters.

Also I love Wonder Woman. She's always been very... boring to me. She's suppose to be the bridge between Batman's cynicism and Superman's optimism but, unless it's an Elseworld version, it usually just comes off as bland to me. But Absolute Wonder Woman? I mean... like that's how you do WW. Compassionate through and through, yet 100% willing to absolutely (no pun intended) demolish you if you aren't willing to surrender. It's such a joy to see her attempt to talk down every single opponent she's faced so far, only for her to destroy them when they deny it. I hope
Zatanna
is an actual threat for her; it's great she kills it but she hasn't faced the same resistance as Supes and Batman I think (poor Batman, Darkseid is clearly upset about that time he got shot by him).

Anyways that's my nerd rant. Any other DC fans here or anyone reading DC Absolute?

I fell off WW and Superman. But I am hooked on Absolute Batman. I think it's actually my favorite interpretation of the the character next to Terry McGinnis. Working class Batman? That concept is just chef's kiss. And the reimagining of his villains are amazing. It really reminds me of the early Ultimate Spider-Man comics from back in 2000 (which is my favorite series ever).

Forcing myself to keep up with Absolute Flash though, since Wally West's my favorite DC character, but I am enjoying the lore changes.

Ayyo a fellow fan of Terry! I love Dick Greyson but Terry will always be the true successor to Bruce in my heart. Also Wally West fan, blessing upon us this day. I feel like everyone I meet prefers Barry. He's great... but he's no Wally West.

Ayyyy you get it. And the resurgence in Barry's popularity is thanks to the show :( (and Rebirth, thanks Geoff) but real ones know Wally's the MVP.

and Rebirth, thanks Geoff
Yea... Geoff is... complicated. He's like the Kathleen Kennedy of DC: he does have a few good ideas (his run with GL might be the best GL story) but then he also just... yea Rebirth was something. I am biased cause I love Scott Snyder and his work on Batman, so I'm sure that's influencing me with Absolute, but eh.

Absolute feels like the first time in forever that these characters felt fresh and new. I haven't read much on Absolute Flash but I know the general jist (ie no speed force, no Barry or Flash-family, etc). Debating starting that one next or GL.

Edit: Imagine... Absolute Star Wars

Absolute Batman is a beast. I haven't read the annual yet so I'm not sure if they cover it; but my only issue is that he hasn't utilized his construction background much. I know it's implied based off how his cape works and his gear being more "homemade" than the mainstream version, but it doesn't feel like there's been a real "This is a working class Batman" moment.
Except the end of the Black Mask arc. That "I don't need money. All I need is Batman," speech was 10/10

Yeah that's the part I really enjoyed. THe latest arc with Bane, I enjoyed how they showed his determination but it also kinda took a little away from that working-class hero feel.

Eh.

Just eh.

I saw a few things about absolute batman, and was like oh, okay, cool, I'll check out some comics with the app thingy. And it's eh. It tries very hard to be different, which is nice, but really a lot of the stuff falls flat to me. I think I'm also wary of multiverse/alternate versions/etc since they all seem to fall flat or fall off. Also the writing for absolute batman is just eh. Like it's not bad, but it definitely is trying really hard sometimes. And then also, I think it's pretty fucking funny that Absolute Batman isn't some disciplined warrior-monk that spent the better part of two decades almost or however long Bruce took to be Captain Whoopass to just have steroid powers. I mean that's the Absolute Batman's power base. It's steroids it's super steroids I think that's fucking hilarious
