Discussion Absolute DC

I fell off WW and Superman. But I am hooked on Absolute Batman. I think it's actually my favorite interpretation of the the character next to Terry McGinnis. Working class Batman? That concept is just chef's kiss. And the reimagining of his villains are amazing. It really reminds me of the early Ultimate Spider-Man comics from back in 2000 (which is my favorite series ever).

Forcing myself to keep up with Absolute Flash though, since Wally West's my favorite DC character, but I am enjoying the lore changes.

Ayyo a fellow fan of Terry! I love Dick Greyson but Terry will always be the true successor to Bruce in my heart. Also Wally West fan, blessing upon us this day. I feel like everyone I meet prefers Barry. He's great... but he's no Wally West.

Ayyyy you get it. And the resurgence in Barry's popularity is thanks to the show :( (and Rebirth, thanks Geoff) but real ones know Wally's the MVP.

Absolute Batman is a beast. I haven't read the annual yet so I'm not sure if they cover it; but my only issue is that he hasn't utilized his construction background much. I know it's implied based off how his cape works and his gear being more "homemade" than the mainstream version, but it doesn't feel like there's been a real "This is a working class Batman" moment.
Except the end of the Black Mask arc. That "I don't need money. All I need is Batman," speech was 10/10

Yeah that's the part I really enjoyed. THe latest arc with Bane, I enjoyed how they showed his determination but it also kinda took a little away from that working-class hero feel.

Eh.

Just eh.

I saw a few things about absolute batman, and was like oh, okay, cool, I'll check out some comics with the app thingy. And it's eh. It tries very hard to be different, which is nice, but really a lot of the stuff falls flat to me. I think I'm also wary of multiverse/alternate versions/etc since they all seem to fall flat or fall off. Also the writing for absolute batman is just eh. Like it's not bad, but it definitely is trying really hard sometimes. And then also, I think it's pretty fucking funny that Absolute Batman isn't some disciplined warrior-monk that spent the better part of two decades almost or however long Bruce took to be Captain Whoopass to just have steroid powers. I mean that's the Absolute Batman's power base. It's steroids it's super steroids I think that's fucking hilarious
