Private Abhorsen

Background:

During occupation, the Uneti's monk's temple on Tython was ramshackled by necromancers, inverted to become a nexus for Dark Spirits, some of the Uneti's very own now cruelly bound to the place as a harsh reminder to never interfere with their communion. Now, as the grip of the Darksiders has been loosened on the planet, surviving Uneti from across the galaxy have come to Tython to perform a pilgrimage and rites of cleansing on the site, with several Jedi in tow as support. It's here that Mykel reunites with a family friend - Charlie Nooran.

Jedi Robes

The speeder truck came to a gradual stop where the gravel path narrowed into root-knotted forest. The Uneti monks dismounted without a word. Simple robes, pale staves etched in runes, no armor or elaborate gear, just quiet reverence and the slow precision of ritual. They had warned ahead of time: no tech past this point. Mykel didn't fully believe it until the display console in the truck started glitching, and Puck's voice distorted into something closer to a binary wheeze. Already at the periphery, he could feel the disturbance, a wound in the Force centered on their ancient homestead.

With a tap to his comlink and a sigh, Mykel stepped out with his master and began to unload supplies from the the bed of speeder.

"Stay with the vehicle," he told Puck. "Comms are dying already, so at the first sign of trouble, launch a flare and zoom out of here."

The astromech grumbled a few tones of resignation, then went quiet as he accepted his new tasking.

Mykel adjusted the strap on his satchel and slung a canvas bag over his back only to pause mid-motion, watching as Charlie strolled by with a full crate over her shoulder like it weighed nothing.

He blinked, slightly incredulous. She barely stood to his shoulder.

His dad had told him all sorts of stories about Charlie's physical feats back in his heyday with her, but he had thought of his dad embellishing a bit to make himself sound cooler. However, now he had seen it all in person.

It stirred a vague memory. He thought he'd met her once with her mother, back on Kashyyyk when he was barely walking. That part of his life felt fogged over now, just fragments, but she looked almost exactly the same. Not untouched by time, simply just…removed from it. Like someone paused at the edge of a painting while the rest of the canvas moved on. Very good genetics!

He hoisted his own pack and came up beside her as they began to follow the monks along the narrow footpath into the highlands.

"Well, I feel completely useless now," he said with a smirk, nodding toward the crate in her arms. "You're even stronger than some Wookies I know."

Charlie smiled. She enjoyed being back on Tython and out of the stone and concrete of the Jedi Temples. It had felt like a lifetime since she had breathed in fresh air. The girl was never one for the temples; she enjoyed the outdoors and felt that semblance of freedom.

She easily picked up one of the crates and flung it over her shoulder. It was lighter than she had expected, but it seemed impressive to Mykel. She smiled as she walked past the boy, seeing him struggle a little with what he was carrying. Charlie was surprised by Mykel's comment. She figured he was still strong but unlike her.

"Oh? You're still instrumental, Mykel, don't worry about it." Her cheeks flushed, still unable to take compliments like a normal person. Charlie pursed her lips tightly, trying to justify the boy's words. Shaking her head, she forced a playful laugh.

"Oh no, Wookies are still very much stronger than me." She had noticed that laughing at herself and when things had made her nervous. It was something she had dealt with growing up. Being among peers had never been easy, and while it was starting to become easy, Charlie knew it was something that she would struggle with for some time.

Lucky for her, the rest of the Jedi were quite welcoming to her and her accommodations. Stopping for a moment, she adjusted the old device in her ear. It was slightly smaller than she would have liked, seeing as she had it in her early teenage years. Delicately, Charlie adjusted the hearing device and then tested it.

Grabbing the crate again, Charlie continued to the highlands, feeling slightly better. "It's been a long time since I've been back. Have you or your master been here to celebrate Tython or just to explore?" Charlie asked as they continued to walk. She fully didn't remember the route, but using the Force felt like it guided her through the beaten pathway.

Charlie was quite gracious in the face of his compliments, but he really felt that she was underselling herself. Still, he appreciated her easy going nature, chuckling as she blushed.

"Yes, I've been here a while with Master Vexis," he said as he loaded up a pack. "We've been here since before the NJO officially relocated to Tython, setting up a new city for incoming refugees."

The development had been a bit of a controversial one between Jedi, most vocally in support, but some worried about the long term effects of having such a mass influx of civilians on the world who were at best agnostic to the matters of the Force. Mykel personally thought it was a positive thing, coming from the Silver Jedi Concord. Why not let civilization flourish here and see what happened? The Jedi would always be there to guide their development.

"Honestly it's a welcome move for the NJO. I'm from Kashyyyk, so I don't think I would have cared much for the hustle and bustle of Coruscant. Interesting place to visit, but not to stay. How do you feel about being back on Tython? Your people, the Uneti, are a fascinating bunch."

Mykel noticed the device she was fiddling with in her ear, recognizing its construction.

"Ah, it's nice to see Silver tech still floating about. How's it been treating you?" He recalled his father saying something about Charlie having hearing issues.
