Populate A Winter's Blessing | THR Life and Name Day Thread [Resource Hex]

Varin crossed his arms over his chest as Nir’s axe flew towards the target. Perfect form, perfect arc, perfect flight, perfect shot. He was impressed. He looked at the axe for a moment longer then back down to the Cathar.

“I take it you do this a lot? Throw axes and whatnot.”

He smirked after the Cathar issued him a sparring challenge. Varin’s blood was now itching. It just was not a celebration to him without a fight.

He extended his hand towards him.

“You’re on. Lead the way.”

It was clear Nir had some combative experience, Varin would test how much experience it was though. It was just what he did. He followed Nir towards the sparring pits, the sounds of people already in combat filled the air, the energy was electrifying, but it was not quite to the extreme he was used to. Jedi planets were certainly different from Sith planets when it came to these events.

He stood waiting and ready for his opponent.

Her last arrow thunked on the bare edge of the target. Adelle frowned, but that had been more the result she’d expected from the beginning. She moved her arms, her muscles burning from the effort of drawing back the bow and holding it long enough to aim. Clearly more practice was needed.

"If you're so set on naming a child after yourself, why not have one?" she challenged. "It would be far easier than this fool's errand, I'd imagine."

Adelle coughed into her elbow to hide the laugh that earned. If she’d known how sassy some nobles and politicians could be, she might have at least tried to go on those diplomatic missions her Order had.

It would’ve been entertaining at the very least.

"Well if he named them then..."

Makko bit his tongue. He had been going to say the bastards would know who dad is and come looking for money.

Even though he would have said it it jest, a joke suitable for a Denon bar was for a fine day out amongst the mobility of Ukatis.

"...his future wives would perhaps leave him for his taste in names."

Makko's sarcasm was just as sharp as Cora's. She had to bite back the immediate comment that came to mind: Wives plural? I don’t think Sibylla would allow that. Whatever was going on between the interim High Chancellor and the interim Queen was their business.

He glanced back at her, eyes bright with challenge. "A fool's errand?" His brows rose. "Hardly. I am far too young for children of my own. Godfather suits me just fine. All the influence, none of the sleepless nights." He smiled, sharp and unapologetic. "And I would despise being godfather to a child named Boris. Truly. So if I can prevent that fate by offering a superior name, I consider it a public service."

He placed a hand to his chest again, mock solemn. "Aurelia is elegant. Historic. Powerful. You have my full blessing to use it." His gaze flicked to Makko, amused. "And my taste in names is impeccable. Any rumors to the contrary are slander."

Adelle snorted and picked up her final arrow, nocking it to the string. “My bullshit-meter is off the charts right now. I’m surprised people aren’t wearing thigh-high boots around you.”

She drew the string back and let loose.

Movement at the edge of his vision drew his focus outward. Sibylla was approaching, calm and observant, her attention already cataloging the scene. Aurelian's smile sharpened. If there was an audience, he would not disappoint.

"Well," he said, stepping toward the rack, "we can't let the Dowager Princess to walk away undefeated at her own celebration. That would be rude."

Adelle glanced over to where Aurelian had looked and then did a double-take. Sibylla was here as well. Well of course she would be, Adelle had literally made a joke about the Queen needing to congratulate the Princess earlier. And of course, the young Queen was accompanied by three other important looking people. She clicked her tongue against her teeth. Well at least the audience to her failure had been limited to three people.

This gathering was about to get too important for the likes of her.

The man had no reservations about revealing his allegiance. And now that he had made himself properly introduced, she did start to get a vague sense of familiarity. Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen. Not enough to know anything about him personally, but enough to know his name was not one spoken of positively in most of her circles. Liana greeted him with the caliber of sneer only a teenage girl could deliver, “Uh huh.” The handshake was not reciprocated, “It’s Junior Ambassador,” she corrected, lest he get the impression she had any authority to treat with him. Dominique was familiar with the man, and seemed content having him along, which didn’t exactly reinforce her trust of the woman. As they walked, Sibylla closed the distance, giving the two of them a chance at an exchange.

"This is my first time meeting anyone from the Imperial Confederation, Supreme Commander Suluren. While this is not an official delegation, I am curious to know more about them."

“So like, what's the deal with the Imperials. Why is he invited?” She asked derisively, “They just let anyone show up to these shindigs?” Why did he even want to be here in the first place?

Sibylla did not bristle at Liana's bluntness. If anything, she understood it. The galaxy had taught its young far too quickly that titles and intentions rarely aligned.

"It is a fair question,"
Sibylla replied calmly with a faint smile, "This Name Day celebration was declared a neutral observance. That neutrality allows guests from many affiliations to attend, provided they abide by Ukatisian law and the accords set to preserve the peace. In this space, politics are meant to stand aside in favor of goodwill."

She paused, hazel eyes thoughtful rather than dismissive as she replied quietly for Liana to hear. "It does not mean trust is assumed, only that civility is required."

As they walked, Sibylla leaned just slightly closer to Liana, lowering her voice so only the young Ambassador could hear.

"I am not certain," she murmured quietly. Straightening again, she offered Liana a gentle, encouraging smile. "I have had little direct interaction with Imperial delegations myself. This is… new ground for me as well." A beat. "But it may simply be that Lady Corazona von Ascania knows him personally, and he has come to pay his respects in that capacity rather than a political one."

Internally, her thoughts drifted elsewhere to another who would take advantage of this opportunity. Would he be here? And if he was, then what then? She drew in a soft breath and let it go, keeping that turbulence carefully behind composed eyes.

Naniti stared at Lysander as he committed to not leaving her. That was... different. It was nice. The Togruta smiled in spite of herself and the fact they were surrounded by strangers. Maybe there was something to all that literature she'd read. About the deeper the darkness, the more one clung to the light. Lysander seemed to be her beacon, and she certainly wasn't inclined to give him up.

When he said he understood her and where he stood in relation to her, Naniti didn't know what to say or think. Was she really that clear? Sometimes she felt so awkward in moments like these. A stranger in a strange land of emotion. It was good to hear him think so though. That meant she wasn't keeping him at a distance like she had others.

A soft laugh followed Lysander reflecting on their more adventurous times together. They'd certainly had a few experiences. Force willing they'd have plenty more. Well, Force and their own stubbornness not to let anyone dictate how they'd live.

Her blue eyes met his; a smile spread across her lips as she leaned a little closer. "Together." Naniti didn't want to diminish Lysander's confession by gushing about her own. She'd dote on him in turn soon enough. What was important was how little she worried what others might see, or think, or say about them there.

A slight shift in her eyes, a warble to her smile. Naniti leaned in closer still, and her smile grew warmer.

It would be all too easy to forget that Lossa had been there the last time he'd worn a full three-piece: the blue suit he'd let himself be talked out of lighting on fire after everything that followed. That night and the months that preceded it and ensued after it felt as if they belonged to some other version of the both of them.

Some other timeline. A mixture of things that impressed upon him lessons he had neglected, but since taken to heart. Lossa seemed distracted, back then, no better off in mind than he was at the time, but if she stared in stunned silence for any longer than she did, here and now, Rik might have made light of it…

"You ever thought about modeling?" Words that came tumbling out, while her eyes wandered over him for a second time, provoking a bevy of thoughts and ways he could counter, vying for place at the tip of his tongue. "That look really suits you."

But he held his tongue, and a couple notes of a chuckle escaped him, instead, while she recovered her composure and answered him. Apple dumplings, huh?

Apple dumplings sound good.” They really did. “Maybe we’ll find some.

Though none of the offerings of Ukatis (or Naboo, for that matter) could truly replace what he’d be missing this year, it wasn't the first time Rik would be spending the season far from home. Probably wouldn’t be the last, with the precarious climate of the galaxy, wiith the core in the grip of the dark, but it was on his mind anyway.

His thoughts often strayed to his parents on Corellia, and his grandparents and his nan, on Alderaan. Here on Ukatis, the hub of refugees, he knew he wasn’t the only one with far off thoughts. Maybe that too urged him to invite her, the thought of the alternative. Maybe there were even reasons beyond this. The last time he’d visited a Life Day market or street, alone, he’d met a tall, winged, white haired guy even he couldn’t deny was beautiful, and… a rodent? At that point, that pair was better company than what had usually sought him out back then, whether he welcomed it or not.

Maybe a little healthy paranoia was also involved, for his reasons.

Rik shook his head at her thanks, “I’m glad you’re here in the cold with me.” For the second time in recent weeks, but climbing a mountain was one thing, standing around in the frigid air was another entirely. “Let’s walk,” he insisted, tipping his head in the direction of the line of stalls, and answering her as they stepped off. They weren’t going to get any warmer standing around here, and warm smells beckoned.

It’s my first time on Ukatis and this all looks and smells cosy.” He expected some might call the display of stalls quaint. “But I figure you’d know more about this place than me.” His thoughts strayed back to her initial reaction, and his eyes slipped to her. She, who was looking as different as he did. ”You look… regally beautiful today, Lossa, he smiled a little, faint fondness creeping into his eyes with who it made him think of as he turned his attention forward again, however briefly, “but it tells me more about how little we know each other, and I want to change that." That was what he was here for, more than anything else. "So ask me anything.

"Is it bad form for you to win this too?" he mused.
"Yes." Cora dismissed the notion with a wave of her hand. "Someone will outdo me quickly. I only wanted to stretch my-"

Thuk.

Aurelian's final shot landed dead center, silencing the Princess while she stared at the arrow embedded into painted wood. Her head turned towards the interim Chancellor in little degrees. Right, maybe he wasn't just here for show.

"Shoot as many arrows as you'd like, I'm still not naming her Aurelia," she tsked.

“My bullshit-meter is off the charts right now. I’m surprised people aren’t wearing thigh-high boots around you.”

The line of Cora's lips wavered as she tried to hold back a snort. When she failed, a hand came up to shield the unfeminine sound from carrying too far. Aurelian seemed keen on surrounding himself with people who challenged him - that was a good thing.

Just when she was about to suggest heading back to the dais, a familiar face approached, shepherding a small crowd.

"Lady Sibylla," she greeted warmly, "and Senator Vexx. What a pleasure it is to see you both here." Cora's gaze swept to the young woman at their side – green of skin and black of hair, familiar in a way she'd almost placed until her eyes caught sight of a firelight glinting off of the polished head of the man next to her. Cora blinked, then leaned closer to Makko to whisper; "I didn't know that people were dressing up in costumes for this?"

Something warm nudged at the blonde’s expression when Naniti laughed. One corner of his mouth shifted before his mind ever had the chance to catch up. It returned gently, like something long forgotten.. but not lost. Then, the right side followed, blooming naturally into a smile that was undeniably honest. Lysander couldn’t suppress the feeling behind it either.. not that he wanted to. No doubt, this was something he could never risk in the presence of rivals, nor even those deemed allies. But here, there was only her, and nothing to stop him.

It was true, he had always been a bit hopeless in that way, but everything seemed to conspire to make him want to remain right there with her, in a corner of Ukatis that had begun to feel more like home than anywhere else he’d known. His fingers curled softly around hers, while the other hand drifted down, settling at her side.

This proximity felt natural; perhaps, it took shape that night upon Jutrand, when he held her in his arms and finally permitted himself to feel again. And maybe this was what it was supposed to look like, when it no longer needed walls.

There was a sweetness in savoring the moment, and he found himself leaning in gradually, letting the small space between them melt away before his lips brushed against hers in a testing pass, carrying the echo of a smile that hadn't quite faded. Pulling back only enough to stay there, he didn’t place any real distance between them. Lysander's forehead found a resting place against hers, eyes creasing as his gaze mapped the endless blue of hers, allowing an enjoyment he seldom displayed surface.

“I’m glad it’s you.”

Life Day parties, different festivals.. any excuse to be near the Togruta. He hoped that, if nothing else, this made things clear.

His nose skimmed along hers; for a breath or two, he nearly closed the gap again, before stopping himself.

“I’m not usually this bad at leaving.”

Liana was one of those overly studious types, it seemed. Rigid. A bastion of righteousness. Well, she was from Alderaan that fit. Still, Dominique hoped the young woman learned to loosen up a bit by the time she became a full Ambassador. There really was no need to correct such trifle matters. If anything it could help her build skills for her eventual promotion. Not that Dominique could tell her that, of course; the young woman would think the Denonite was suggesting she accept bribes or something.

Sibylla Abrantes Sibylla Abrantes took up the spunky young woman's very pointed question with grace befitting her office. "Opportunities like these afford parties otherwise unlikely to meet a chance for open dialogue about a great many subjects. That's why Denon seeks to establish relations with so many governments throughout the galaxy. The more we're able to talk to one another, the easier it is to come to some sort of arrangement to avoid open war or the loss of a people's culture." Everyone wanted something and it was Denon's livelihood to provide it. Though sometimes some requests were easier to fulfill than others, and there were a few even her people could not -- not to say someone else couldn't, but there was a point of diminishing returns in certain matters.

Dominique's golden rings fell upon Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania just as the other woman seemed to notice their small group. Evidently, their host had taken to one of the competitive sports. With Aurelian Veruna Aurelian Veruna nearby with a bow in his hands. The Denonite smirked at the sight, and a slight arch of a brow accompanied the notice of an arrow's remarkable placement on the target.

"Princess von Ascenia, delightful to see you enjoying yourself. No need for our gracious hosts to be sequestered on a dais after they'd gone through such effort to establish a day of fellowship for all citizens of the galaxy." Overly complimentary? Wordy? Just a discrete reminder not to judge certain people present too harshly. Dominique hadn't heard what Corazona said, but unless the Junior Ambassador of Alderaan had done something worthy of private conversation with Makko Vyres Makko Vyres ... "I'd like to introduce you to Junior Ambassador Liana Organa Liana Organa and," Dominique turned slightly Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen 's direction. There was a half second pause to see if the man wanted to step in and introduce himself; if there was no indication he sought to placate concerns or foster good will by some elaborate self-introduction, Dominique would introduce him as well.

Avoiding her question let her the few moments longer she needed to gather herself a little better.

Old habits were something that died hard. Or maybe it was just her way of being an ice-breaker. It was still a learning process figuring out how to balance the way she had survived with the things she had come to learn throughout the years. People were always such a mystery when they wanted to be. The wonder if he had ever considered that avenue of work was still in the back of her head though.

A idle thought she put away as he commented about the apple dumplings.

"Think they may be around somewhere only Cora can grab them." Lossa wasn't about to go snagging the last one, but she wasn't above stealing from a private craving stash if need be. "But we'll find out."

Amusement flickered across her face at the cold comment, matching his pace as she spoke her mind on the matter.

"Seems to be a trend. Not against it but hopefully we can enjoy some warmer weather on the next walk." As much as she wanted to outright speak her mind, they both could do with a bit of easy pacing. Her eyes swept across the gathered people. At the stalls around them. The poeple enjoying the sights, sounds, and products this time of year brought with it. The air tasted of abundant joy. Mirth filling the air in tandem as she let an easy smile grow. The intense look in her eyes easing back to soft wonder.

Her eyes sliding to Rik. "Probably only a little more than you if I am being honest. Naboo, and family matters, have kept me from exploring it too openly." The area they were walking vaguely familiar, at least with some of the landmarks visible. Between the snow and vendors, it was harder to place exactly where they were every time until some little bench or marker was spotted.

The compliment caught her in a moment of surprise.

Smiling despite the slight furrow of her brow. "Thank you. I..." She paused in her walking to examine herself before speaking again. "I'm still figuring out that fine line of looking presentable while keeping some of my own flair."

Her hands back into her pockets as she turned to look at him.

"Agreed, given how I tried coming after you for just being a friend." Shaking her head with a sigh before chuckling at herself. "But I am glad we are aiming to become more familiar." That easy smile appearing once again as she thought to herself.

What did she really want to know right now? Besides everything, perhaps-

"What is one of your favorite foods?" A topic that was very close to her heart when fighting or doing jedi things weren't demanding her to act accordingly.

In all honesty, Sularen had completely overlooked the fact that that today's celebrations were also about the name day of the Dowager Princess and that she was expecting a child. Then again he had ventured out into uncharted territory and was participating in an event he rarely observed with people he was meeting for the first time. It was a new experience which still felt foreign so it was natural for him to be somewhat out of the loop and for the other attendees to also be a bit out of the loop when it came to him and the Confederation.

Soon enough the trio would find Corazona who was already engaged in conversation with other individuals among them being the Chancellor of the High Republic and King of Naboo himself, Aurelian Veruna. He had heard a lot about Veruna, especially since he had been looking forward to meet him given how the Confederation and the High Republic despite their ideological differences essentially shared the same enemies not to mention his reputation as an ambitious, charismatic and meticulous individual which did pique his interest.

Setting Veruna aside for the time being, Director Vexx would initiate a conversation with Corazone greeting her and introducing her to Lianna Organa and Sularen himself, giving Sularen room to introduce himself to the Dowager Princess which he did. "Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen, of the Imperial Confederation. It's a real honor to meet you, your majesty." he stated.

Aurelian stood where the last arrow had landed, eyes fixed on the target longer than strictly necessary. Three clean shots. Precise. Controlled. Impressive by any reasonable standard. And still not enough to eclipse the host at her own celebration.

How annoying.

He exhaled through his nose and let the bow dip, irritation flashing briefly before it smoothed itself into something more palatable. There was no sense sulking. He had made his point. Mostly.

A dull thunk drew his attention sideways as Adelle loosed her final arrow. It skimmed wide, catching the edge of the target with a sound that carried more disappointment than damage. Aurelian glanced at it, then at her, brows lifting. "Remind me never to be on a team with you," he said lightly. "You seem to have a complicated relationship with feats of skill. Or perhaps luck simply refuses to cooperate." His mouth curved. "Tragic. You strike me as someone who should be excellent at these things."

He turned back toward Cora, the irritation gone now, replaced by familiar mischief. "You can deny it all you like," he said, voice low and amused, "but I can already tell the name is growing on you. Aurelia has a certain inevitability to it." He tilted his head. "Resistance is usually the first sign."

Before she could retort, movement at the edge of the range drew his attention. Another group approached, polished and purposeful. Titles followed them like shadows. Aurelian straightened out of habit and inclined his head in greeting, a gesture practiced to perfection. So many important people. Such a limited attention span.

His gaze flicked briefly to Sibylla, and for a heartbeat the noise of the gathering dulled. She looked composed, radiant even, the firelight catching her just so. The thought surfaced unbidden, warm and distracting, before he shoved it aside.

Focus.

His attention snagged instead on the man beside her. Bald. Broad shouldered. Carried himself with the confidence of someone accustomed to command. Supreme Commander, he'd said. Aurelian's brows knit almost imperceptibly. A Supreme Commander?

He studied the man openly now, curiosity sharpening into something keener. An authoritarian title, if he'd ever heard one. And here he was, halfway across the galaxy, standing on a Republic world during a Life Day celebration. Aurelian could not recall the last time a report bearing the name Imperial Confederation crossed his desk. That alone was interesting. "How fascinating."

He shifted slightly, angling himself closer to Cora without breaking eye contact with the newcomer. "Do you know him?" he asked quietly, just for her. There was no accusation in his tone, only alert interest. "Because if you do, I'd very much like to know why a Supreme Commander has wandered this far into polite company."

His gaze returned to Marlon Sularen, assessing, cataloging. The man did not look lost. He looked intentional. Aurelian smiled, slow and sharp.

Well. This party was improving.

"The Axe happens to be my people's cultrual weapon of choice." Nir gave a coy smile, as if he had known he was gonna win all along. "Funny to see us backwater cathar could beat a sith in such a game. Thought you guys were supposed to be the perfect warriors of the stars. Then again, my people always found it funny how you fought over that title with the Mandos."

As they approached the arena, Nir reached out with both arms to crack his knuckles. "So what are the rules here, eh? Hand to hand, weapons, spears, something else?"

MAKKO

"I didn't know that people were dressing up in costumes for this?"

Makko followed Cora's line of sight. He recognised the Denon representative with Sibylla, but not the other man.

That's a costume? He queried through the Force as there were lots of people close by.

"Resistance is usually the first sign."

Makko bit his tongue. Absolutely none of his retorts to that were for polite company. He didn't want to bring the Denon name down in front of an ambassador.

. "Because if you do, I'd very much like to know why a Supreme Commander has wandered this far into polite company."

"Ah," muttered Makko before he made polite introductions.

With Cora's own brother bringing some junior Sith, it was going to be difficult to complain about another representative from an aggressive empire.

Naniti stared up at Lysander after his lips brushed her own. It felt... She didn't know what it felt. And he wasn't pulling away either. He stood there with their foreheads touching. She couldn't see anything other than him. As a Togruta she could sense others nearby though with her montrals. Unlike a secluded viewpoint on a frozen world, this was so open and public.

Of course, she wasn't ashamed of having grown... closer to Lysander. Varin and Seren and probably even Naamino probably knew. They didn't kiss, but they obvious hung around one another more than most would think two Sith ever would without killing one another. Assassins probably surmised it. But this... This kiss so open. So brazen.

"Then don't." Hells, Passion was part of the Code after all. Naniti wrapped her arms about Lysander as she leaned in to do more than brush her lips against his. If it was so bad to have a companion, let the stars fall. Having Lysander in her arms was so much more than she'd ever had before. Someone more. And if he thought the galaxy was going to draw them apart, all the more reason for her to hold on and never let him go.

Lysander von Ascania Lysander von Ascania

The Cathar's comment caused him to glance over to him, not in offense. Varin knew of these kind of tactics to make someone sloppy. He would not abide.

“A respectable weapon choice. Versatile and not many downsides. Good for crushing, chopping, disarming and of course like you displayed, range.”

He looked at the weapon rack as he spoke as if thinking, deciding what he wanted to use.

“Even backwater planets produce fine warriors. And certainly not every Sith is worth their salt. The same goes with the mandalorians. However, both Sith and Mandalorians do have one thing in common, they tend to confuse war with culture. I was told to play nice today, so I will play along.”

His eyes fell to blades and he gently ran his finger along the edge. The blade bit into his finger with ease drawing blood, sizzling along the edge. As he picked up his finger, the wound had begun to cauterize itself, the dead flesh scattered to the wind like ash.

He stopped and looked at the Cathar.

“Varin, Varin Mortifer.”

He stretched out his arm to shake hands.

“And you are?”

He watched the Cathar for a moment.

“I always prefer to at least know my opponent's name. I hope you are keen on brawling, that seems to be my fancy today.”

He smirked slightly, as if trying to contain excitement.

Mood: Aurelian is clearly the diva here. He gets all the attention.

At first, Sibylla assumed it was merely the desire to converse with Dominique that delayed the Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen from offering his greetings to her. It was, after all, an informal affair, and such lapses were easily forgiven -- particularly if Dominique already shared a prior connection with the man.

Yet as the conversation continued and he accepted the invitation to accompany them, a pattern emerged. He greeted Liana Organa with proper courtesy -- as he should -- and then returned, quite seamlessly, to Dominique alone.

The slight only became unmistakable when Sibylla's own cordial inquiry was met with silence. She had asked politely and without pretense about the Imperial Confederation, despite this being anything but a formal delegation meeting. Yet the question went unanswered.

And then, as they joined Lady von Ascania, her husband, Adelle -- and Phantom, of course -- and Sibylla's gaze finally met Aurelian's, the Supreme Commander chose that moment to offer his full attention but not to the Interim Queen of Naboo, but to the elected King of Naboo and Interim High Chancellor of the Republic.

Once again, she was neatly bypassed.

A delicate brow lifted, just so, at the flourish with which he greeted Aurelian and declared it an honor to meet him. Sibylla was not easily offended, but this was, without question, a studied discourtesy.

Dominique had been correct in her explanation to Liana. Gatherings such as these created rare opportunities for dialogue between parties who might otherwise never interact. But they also offered something else just as readily: the chance to make a very poor first impression.

A faint sound escaped the back of her throat. Sibylla noted the omission, then set it aside with practiced ease, and while her expression remained pleasant, the warmth had gone and was replaced by a cool, deliberate reserve.

At least until Adelle's dry comment about sensing nonsense in the air prompted the faintest twitch at the corner of Sibylla's mouth.

Indeed.

As befitted her station, Sibylla moved forward regardless, intending to greet Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania .

"Lady von Ascania, Knight Vyres," she began warmly, addressing the guests of honor first. "It is a pleasure to see you both so well."

Hazel eyes panned toward the bow in Cora's hands and a brief grin touched her lips.

"I see you have already embraced a bit of friendly competition. I suspect your daughter will enjoy the sport herself once she is old enough to hold a bow."

The Interim Queen then inclined her head more solemnly. "But first, my congratulations on this remarkable blessing."

From her pocket, she produced a small parcel and offered it to both Corazona and Makko Vyres Makko Vyres . Within lay handwoven Naboo lace infant garments, crafted with care rather than extravagance.

"A small gift, but one given with great affection. I hope you find it pleasing."

Turning next to Adelle Bastiel Adelle Bastiel and Phantom, Sibylla offered a knowing wink as much as stopping herself from wanting to pet her.

"It is good to see you both." Her gaze flicked only briefly toward Aurelian, the corner of her mouth lifting before she returned her attention to Adelle Bastiel Adelle Bastiel . "I am pleased to see you beside our High Chancellor. I trust you have kept him on his toes this evening."

At last, she turned gently toward Liana Organa Liana Organa , whom Dominique had already introduced, and offered an encouraging gesture, inviting her to give her greetings.

As Sibylla's gaze swept the archery range once more, a thoughtful spark lit her eyes. If there was still time to participate, she saw no reason not to take the initiative.

"Princess von Ascenia, delightful to see you enjoying yourself. No need for our gracious hosts to be sequestered on a dais after they'd gone through such effort to establish a day of fellowship for all citizens of the galaxy."

"We felt the need to stretch our legs. And our arms, I suppose," Cora chucked quietly. "Though perhaps Chancellor Veruna should get some of the credit - he helped work with the crown to elevate this celebration."

"I'd like to introduce you to Junior Ambassador Liana Organa Liana Organa Liana Organa Liana Organa and,"
"Organa?" Something akin to a spark lit her gaze, and Cora peered closer at the girl. Green skin, dark hair - yes, she could certainly see Amani in her. And Alicio's nose.

"My goodness! The last time I saw you was at your mother's Masterhood ceremony. You were just small." Cora's grin stretched wide as she recalled witnessing Alicio wrangle two toddlers way back when. “A pleasure to meet you again, junior ambassador. How are your parents?"
"Supreme Commander Marlon Sularen, of the Imperial Confederation. It's a real honor to meet you, your majesty." he stated.
"Do you know him?" he asked quietly, just for her. There was no accusation in his tone, only alert interest. "Because if you do, I'd very much like to know why a Supreme Commander has wandered this far into polite company."

"Not personally, no," she murmured back. A lingering glance slid Makko's way, accompanied by a thoughtful frown that bordered on suspicious. "But I do know that he used to align himself with the Dark Empire. One of Solipsis' projects."

While it was true there were Sith in attendance, they were children. And more importantly, they were traveling with Lysander. Despite her complicated feelings for her brother, Cora trusted him to keep his comrades in line on Ukatis. Hypocrisy was tempered by nepotism.

"Ukatis welcomes you, Supreme Commander Sularen," she greeted with a gentle incline of her head. "So long as you're here to observe the festivities. Have you met the Republic’s interim chancellor, Aurelian Veruna?”
"I see you have already embraced a bit of friendly competition. I suspect your daughter will enjoy the sport herself once she is old enough to hold a bow."
"Between archery and the horse she was gifted, I'm certain she'll be kept quite busy," Cora agreed with a quiet laugh.
"A small gift, but one given with great affection. I hope you find it pleasing."

"Oh," Cora ran her hand over the soft white lace, "she's going to look adorable in this! And such good craftsmanship." Grinning, she rubbed the delicate yarn between two fingers. "Thank you, Lady Abrantes. I can't wait to start dressing her up."

The line of Cora's lips wavered as she tried to hold back a snort. When she failed, a hand came up to shield the unfeminine sound from carrying too far. Aurelian seemed keen on surrounding himself with people who challenged him - that was a good thing.

Adelle said nothing but a crooked smile grew on her face when the Lady Cora's composure broke. She might not have won at the archery--and that had been a longshot besides--but she was going to consider that a win. Breaking a noblewoman's composure seemed to be growing into something of a specialty for her.

Aaaaand there was Aurelian. Adelle dryly raised her eyebrows, quickly considering the pros and cons of telling Phantom to jump onto his shoulders. The biggest con, and deciding factor, was the risk to the tiny spukami should they ambush Aurelian like that. Instead she reached up to rub behind one of Phantom's ears.

"I know you love the sound of your own voice, but it does you a disservice when you miss important bits of information," she retorted. "Like the fact I told Cora I've only ever done this twice before. I'd love to see you nail piloting a bes'uliik through falling debris first try."

The political group--what was a group of politicians called, anyways?--neared and pleasantries were exchanged. Adelle only recognized Sibylla, though the woman with purple glareshades and the bald man exuded importance. The fourth member was younger. Much younger. The child of a politician or old friend of one of those gathered? She made a mental note to trawl the Holonet later and fill in those gaps.

Suffice to say, the gathering had gotten a little too rich for her blood. Adelle hung her bow back on the rack and prepared to slip away.

Sibylla's wink stopped her before she could, bringing back the impish grin. Phantom hopped down with a querilous mew, suffering the snow to walk up hopefully to the interim Queen. Adelle sighed as the attention-seeking diva stood partially on her hind legs. <<Pets?>>

"Good to see you again, your majesty," Adelle said, keenly aware that this was not a private yacht party. Titles and protocol held sway until someone said otherwise. "Yes, he very nearly surprised me at the axe-throwing contest before volunteering himself to be my competition and guide throughout the festival. I've done the best I can, but Phantom hasn't won any further titles from him."

The smile turned wicked and mischievous with the last admission. The other time she broke a noblewoman's composure. Cora's breaking hadn't nearly been so spectacular as Sibylla's. But Adelle also would have felt bad if a pregnant woman choked because of her. She stood unobtrusively off to the side as Sibylla picked up a bow and three arrows, stepping up to the lane. So apparently archery was also a nobility thing. Made sense, if Aurelian was good at it, and he not able to ballroom dance without counting.

"Enjoying the--" Adelle trailed off as Sibylla shot her arrows. Only one hit the target.

"Nine Hells, I thought my shots were bad," she muttered under her breath.
