OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • One shield system generated at overlapping angles. Three independent generators can buffet kamikaze ships or boarding ships, slowing and deflecting the approach of suicide craft, or better cushioning their momentum before impact. These second skins make rare specialty liquid or organic weapons and asteroids also less effective.
  • The tiered design makes weapons designed to outright pierce shields briefly less effective, as a secondary field would also slow or deflect the shot. It also hinders continuous fire weapons looking to punch a brief hole through.
  • A single system. Able to function with the same output on one, two or three shield generators, it becomes less effective at reducing shield puncturing weapons or deflecting Kamikaze and boarding vessels the more generators it loses.
STRENGTHS
  • Very Resistant to Weapons looking to Puncture or Pierce Shields rather than drain or overcome them.
  • Very Resistant to Kamikaze ships, Boarding Craft, Asteroids, or Specialised Liquid and Organic Weaponry. Specialty boarding craft might still get in with persistence but it isn't a pleasant, likely easy or safe ride.
  • Though not stronger in resisting regular ship weaponry. Sabotaging one shield generator internally or through special tech, doesn't stop the other two functioning.
  • Physically the shield generator units themselves are made out of strong and thick Quadanium Steel plating.
WEAKNESSES
  • No extra resistances to everyday cannon, missile or torpedo weaponry. The three generators have the strength of a regular modern-day shield for whatever class of ship it is fitted to.
  • Power. This system has three generators, and although no more resistant than a single shield to regular weaponry, it does have more of an energy drain.
  • Maintenance and size. The unit requires three shield generators, which takes up extra room, and requires three times as much crew attention to maintain it.
  • For the same reason this design cushions against kamikaze or boarding ships, ramming other vessels with the shield up will be much less effective. A double-edged sword.
DESCRIPTION

Directive 7T, Project Lead Tekethi Uos. Codename: Rams-A-Lot
Project Cost: Negligible. Costs paid for by an unnamed client.
Total Time to Completion: 3 Years, 7 Months and 4 Days Galactic Standard Time.

The Apex Shield Triflectors system was designed conceptually as a way to counter the exotic weapons on the market and common tactics used in space combat. Ramming ships are not uncommon but last orders to ram have become increasingly common in space combat. Boarding through shields is also a very common approach used and so this concept was born.

After seeing his prize cruiser rammed to push it into a nearby space station, one customer had simply had enough. Commissioning Apex to use their associated companies under the Apex Holdings umbrella to find a design that in his words, got those frakkers good. As such this was a golden goose for Apex Industrial who had almost all of their costs paid for upfront, gaining a new shield to market in the process.

The Triflector design is one single system and has no greater strength than a regular modern-day shield. Instead, the A-ST1 puts the ship in the center of several overlapping fields that strengthen and reinforce each other. This has the effect of deflecting and cushioning Kamikaze craft, boarding ships, or organic weaponry such as asteroids and liquid away from the vessel.

According to one executive who seems to be in a speeder accident every other week, it should be noted that raming other vessels with the shield up will also be problematic, a trade-off for shielding from the same.
