A Reluctant Meeting

[member="Ice"]

Aurna sighed as she walked into he meeting. She was wearing nothing in particular. She was rebelling against her annoying advisers by wearing just a simple tunic and skirt with this CEO that she was apparently in business with. She hoped it would be quick she really would hate to have to stay long.. or discuss boring business that long. She wished that her lover @Alva Calvarona was with her, she found that being apart even for a little bit was harder than she thought. But apperantly she had business in Crina and Aurna had business here on some station named the Libertalia. She found herself in some meeting room waiting for the man that was to meet her. She was after all the owner of Tanlab Industries.

[member="Aurna Vern"] Didn't have to wait long, for Ice had soon joined her mere moments after she herself had entered. Within the confines of Libertalia, they were safe from spies and listening equipment, and could thus speak more plainly. Ice himself, had a smile on his face as he gave her a small but respectful bow.

"Good to see you again, Miss Vern." He said almost tongue in cheek as if they were playing some inside joke on the galaxy. Although a few of the details were a bit sketchy, he had been able to put together a lot of what had happened with the Allie Wren he knew and had worked with. "I mean I knew you had made a few arrangements after certain events, but this was a bit more extreme than even I expected." Ice had no idea she had forgotten her past. He had incorrectly assumed that the key was a sign for him to recall her and realise this was simply the new her.

He didn't know that she really was just returning what she thought was a random key found by her people.

"I am sorry have we met before? " She asked rather confused. It would be plain on her face she didn't know what he was talking about. " I was told that my Aunt, Alli Wren set up a deal with you before she passed away. I am here to honor it, as I own Tanlab Industries." She said clearly someone who wanted to get it over with. " Or is there another Aurna Vern that perhaps you know? " she said thinking his words over. " You are Ice right? I mean.. I am assuming since you came into the room but well I didn't get a picture or anything and know who I am.

[member="Ice"]

There was a long pause as a very confused Ice worked things out in his mind. Was she serious? He pondered to himself. She genuinely looked confused and even annoyed almost to be there at all. "Uh....yes. It must be a different Aurna Vern I was thinking was coming." He paused again trying figure how to recover.

"Please forgive me. I was unaware Al--" he stopped, clearing his throat to interrupt the more personal way of referring to her. "Miss Wren had passed away. And I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. She was an amazing person, and good business associate of mine."

Shaking his head to clear his jumble of thoughts, he then continued. "So as it seems quite a few things have taken place since our initial vague agreement. Can you fill me in on what it is that you are expecting from this meeting?"

[member="Aurna Vern"]

"Well my Aunt, insisted I pursue formalizing the subsidiary with you, on the completion of the auction where we jointly purchased several items. She left me alot to go over so sorry if I am not more organized. " She said, suddenly drawing from some skills she didn't even realize she had. " I know that you might doubt me, but Alli did leave me everything, and an A.I to help run Tanlab. I have been looking over the numbers and I think if we do this right the mobility of the shipyards with the Goten dry docks and the asteroid miners we will be able to move easily should anything ever become tricky like it did for Baktoid. In my free time I am thinking about designing some specialty parts for Tanlab to make, since finding out I owned a company sort of blew away ideas of just being an employee. These parts will be available for our subsidiary should they be useful for us. I also was suppose to give you this note, which I was instructed not to read.Well couldn't really the envelope has a biometric lock. "

The note read

"Hello friend, you are most likely very confused by this meeting, and I don't blame you. I couldn't live with my actions anymore.. resorting to taking over a young girl even so I have relieved Aurna of my memories, but she has all my skills so please deal with her and you won't be disappointed, granted I doubt she will run anything. I made her owner, and not CEO for a reason. I have Serenity, an A.I. that I made acting as CEO and you can trust both Aurna and Serenity, my word. I am sorry we couldn't do more business before my end. Please never let her know that she once was me. I hope I can trust that secret to you. I also hope you might look out for her, but if you wont' know matter, just don't let anyone know that she was once me and we can call all even."
[member="Ice"]

Ice gave an extremely skeptical look. He didn't like working with people he didn't know. Granted, you had to start somewhere. But this particular operation was not one he planned on sharing with someone he didn't trust. It was the location of of a world bearing resources almost non existent anywhere else after all. Secrecy and trust were his biggest allies right now. And he was running low on people he could trust. "Look Aurna. It's not that I don't have faith in your abilities. It's that I don't know you. From your own mouth, you have admitted to being in completely new territory here as a company owner. With the operation your aunt and I had planned, it's going to require experience and a skill set you just said you don't have. I mean, I'm all for giving someone a shot...but this case is simply to sensitive to risk on someone I am not used to working with."

He let out an annoyed sigh. Ice didn't even mind the idea of working with her on projects. As he recalled, he was even looking to hire her. She was beautiful, she seemed intelligent, and he always believed in giving new talent a chance to grow. To give her a shot despite not having any previous actual work experience. Obviously he didn't have all the facts at the time though. And she also never seemed to enthusiastic about working with STI then. He assumed she had received a better offer elsewhere. And now she is being forced it would seem to work with Ice now? He was about to cancel the whole deal and send her on her way when she mentioned a letter with a biometric lock.

As he took the letter, he eyed Aurna a moment with a raised eyebrow. This was unexpected, and he wondered if it was real, or forged. Still he couldn't help but let slip a small smirk as his hand opened up the lock surrounding the message. "Clever girl." He mumbled under his breath as he turned his back to her as to read the message. His eyes moving back and forth as every incredible detail began filling in all the blanks.

Another audible sigh escaped his lips as he finished reading. "Ah curse you Alli....we could have turned things around...." His shoulders drooped some as he finished speaking quietly to himself in a level that she wouldn't be able to make out the words clearly. Turning to face Aurna once more, he simply stared at her as his mind raced.

Finally he spoke. "Here's what I'm going to do. As my deal was with your aunt, and not you. I am not obliged to follow through with the original contract. However, we will go ahead and make a shipbuilding firm together using the Gotem Dry Dock I purchased at the auction. Per the original deal, I will require Tanlab Industries to cover their half of the expenses of this purchase of course. I will retain 51% percent ownership of the company, and you will have 49% percent. The condition is if we have managed to work well together over the course of....let's say two years, ownership of 1% of the company will shift back to you. And at that point we will be equal partners. At the end of two years, if we feel the business relationship is not worth pursuing, STI reserves the right to buy out your portion of the company. Till then, profits are split 50/50."

"The originally mentioned mining operation, I will handle myself. As there are aspects that I am simply not willing to share with a new business partner. I hope you can understand this. And I mean no slight by it. If, however, you wish to learn about it. I would be willing to take you under my wing and teach you. That will require you to be nearby though as we have an operation starting up soon. That choice is up to you."

Catching a breath, he regarded the unlikely cooperative effort with some apprehension. But because this was coming from Alli, he was willing to give it a shot. "So what say you?"

[member="Aurna Vern"]

"I understand, she frowned as he spoke to her and her lack of skills. "

Aurna then bit her lip and fidgeted with her hands like she tended to always do when nervous. She felt dejected and aweful. Was it so terrible going into business with her? Aurna began to wonder as he took his time. She waited and waited, it seemed like forever had passed as he read the letter and he would mumble and his face seemed to make strange faces. She had to wonder what was on it. Her aunt was strange, planning all this stuff after all. Aurna sighed and made her self comfortable. Then he began to speak, and he made a completely fair deal considering all he had said before. She smiled and then the idea of him teaching her. That sounded the best honestly. She had no idea what she was doing and well Tanlab was a handful, perhaps if he would teach her she could make sure things worked out better. She smiled brightly, surely to catch his eye. She got up and hugged him. She didn't care that it was inappropriate really.

" Thank you Ice! I won't let you down, I promise. I also will love to learn from you.. I would submit to staying nearby, if you could teach me the ropes. I mean you are experienced and well I would like to not let my aunt down. I mean she left me a whole company and I don't want to lose it, so I need someone to help me. I mean I live on my ship so I can sort of follow you anywhere you need me to."

[member="Ice"]

Ice's eye widened when she jumped up and gave him a hug. Admittedly, he didn't expect it. Such a turn around in attitude from when she first arrived was quite surprising. He almost wondered if she was used to getting her way based on looks alone. And while he could see how that could definitely work in many places as she was quite attractive, even to him. It wouldn't work now. And he suspected she saw that she was on the verge of losing this golden opportunity until her "aunt's" letter came into play. He was a logical thinker, very rarely letting sentiment or a pretty face make a decision for him. And yet here he was voluntarily jumping into business with an untried and untested woman solely on the word of a person he once called a friend. He must be crazy. Maybe he was just getting soft.

Still, he eventually rapped his arms around her and returned her embrace. A small smile gracing his expression. "You're welcome." He said after listening to what she had to say. Pulling away from her some, he looked into her eyes. Even technically being a different person, she did seem to possess that spark Alli had. "Ok. I plan to move fast on this new operation. If you truly wish to come along and learn. You had better conclude whatever plans you currently have, as we will be gone for a while on this expedition. After all. Being in control of a large company is all well and good. But to be a good leader, you need to learn all aspects of a business. As you mentioned you have an A.I. helping to run things. I trust it shouldn't be too difficult to keep things moving while we are away. Besides, if anything truly important comes up, we'll still have our vessels to return if needs be. Is that acceptable to you?" He honestly was beginning to hope it would be.

This may be a different person. But his friend Alli was still in their at least partly. And if Ice was anything, he was loyal to a fault to those he did mange to call his friend.

[member="Aurna Vern"]

Aruna smiled and looked at him. "That works for me, Thank you again for teaching me." She had almost lost it, she had taken for granted all the perceived plans of her aunt, she better get her act together, she wasn't experienced and plus she had hardly tried. She sighed as business was going to be interesting. She looked to him and wondered just how fast he wanted to go. " I am ready really, I just have to let a few people know I will be gone. She really meant Alva, she thought about her with a giggle. Maybe she could sneak her on her ship.

"So how soon do we depart sir?" She asked trying to be a bit more formal.
[member="Ice"]

He raised an eyebrow at her request. "First lesson." Plopping down a Non Disclosure Agreement in front of her to sign, he added. "Cover your assets. Nobody can know the reason of why you are leaving. By all means, let whoever you have too, know you will be away for a time. But this expedition is on a need to know basis. So under know circumstances are you to disclose to anyone else the reason for your being away. And I will be unable to tell you anything else about our trip, till this agreement," he said, tapping the NDA form, "is signed."

"You see, I have been extremely careful with what details I give out, and to whom. Trust is something you need to have in short supply I'm afraid. There will be people out there who will act like your friend. They will act like they care for you. Then they will stab you in the back when you least expect it." He turned away from her and sighed. "Trust. The word has always made me apprehensive. Like fine wine, whenever I have tried it, the after effects have not been good. So I've given up wine, and for the most part trust. You will need to do the same if you are to be a successful business owner." He finished as he turned to meet her gaze once more.

That smile of hers. He couldn't help but smile back. "We leave in two days. So be quick with your preparations."

[member="Aurna Vern"]

"Well... Can I at least talk to my girlfriend about it. I mean... she is the one person I have in the galaxy. I trust her more than I do you, sir, and well I will have her sign one of these two if you want. I don't want her to not know where I am. I, I don't want to keep secrets from her. " She said looking at the agreement. It was very daunting, and well she was more than a bit worried about signing it. "Also I am going to have to have a lawyer look it over, I never sign anything without a lawyer. " She said with a smile. " I learned that from my aunt. "

Aurna smiled and looked at Ice wondering what he would say about that. " My ship and I will be here in two days ready to leave. " She smiled knowing that since she lived on the ship it made sense to bring it. After all she rather liked it there, as everything she could need was there. Aurna looked up to [member="Ice"] wondering what he thought about what she said.

He let out a soft chuckle. "You are a fast learner. Like your aunt I suspect. Please do, have your lawyer check it out. It is a standard form. But by no means take my word for it. I will earn your trust before I expect it." He thought for a moment at her next request. "Aurna. The only reason you know anything about this expedition is because of your Aunt. I am already taking a big risk on you. I know nothing about your...girl friend." It was odd, he didn't take her for that kind of person. But then this was why you don't trust. Looks are deceiving.

"As such. How could I possibly approve allowing her to know about this? Put yourself in my shoes for just a moment. Say you know something that simply must be kept a secret. Now, someone you don't really know walks up to you and says, but you can trust them because I do."

He stopped right there to let the scenario play through her head. He wasn't trying to annoy her, but these were simple facts of life. Most people in this galaxy could not be trusted. And if he was going to honestly look out for her, he would make sure she understood these unpleasant truths.

"I am hand picking just about everyone of importance on this trip. If this means this much to you.....have her come here. I'll interview her and run a background check. If she passes, she can come. If she doesn't, or I find something I don't like. Neither of you get to go. Is that a risk, you're willing to take?"

He then sat back and regarded Aurna, curious to see where she would go from here.

[member="Aurna Vern"]

"Well that can be arranged, she is waiting on my ship for me " Aurna giggled. "I mean.. if your serious... about this... and she submits to your demands. Her name is [member="Alva Calvarona"] and should you want, I could have her come for that interview and check. I mean I want this to work... and well she is the one person I can trust at this point in time so I want you to as well." Aurna smiled and heard back from the Tanlab legal team that the document was safe to sign. She signed it quickly and looked to him. "There you go by the way, I figure since I got the go ahead. I might as well get it out of the way. "

Aurna waited for his answer, hoping he might take the bait, after all if he did, that meant it would be alot more comfortable of a journey. She hated being apart from Alva. The two had become inseparable.

[member="Ice"]

If she was willing to submit to his security protocols, he didn't have much of an argument left...at least for now. Much would be seen when this other mystery woman's background check came back. Still, at least Aurna had been honest about her. He didn't like it, but she had earned bit of leeway.

With a defeated sigh, he handed her a couple more forms. Another NDA, as well as a permission to run a background form for Aurna's significant other. "Very well. Have her fill these out, and bring her as quickly as you can. We have other preparations still to make after all."

Well now this was a problem. Background checks?

When Alva had agreed to postpone returning to Crina to travel with Aurna to conduct her aunt's business she hadn't expected to be roped into some project. She already had so many to deal with running CRI for the Remnant. Now the Crinan Princess couldn't well turn away the girl she was trying to drag back to her homeworld, but this posed a rather big problem. Crina wasn't on the books. It was uninhabited prior to the colonists crashing, and they had no contact until a few centuries ago, and the gulag plague had hit back then and demolished much of the known galaxy too. The Imperial Remnant had had a hard enough time establishing contact, having dug up the only records and hints and taking them themselves. Crina was an isolated world behind dense asteroid fields and, since the Remnant had arrived and helped, gravity well projectors and sleeper mine traps. It was a world known only to a few and accessible to only them. Unless you had the Crinan Navy's maps the asteroid fields were suicide, and without authorization codes the gravity well projectors would pull unwelcome intruders into an explosive end at the hands of sleeper mines.

Not only that, but Alva herself wasn't about to hand over the coordinates of her homeworld to anyone. Crina had and was still working hard to maintain an isolationist policy. It was bad enough the Remnant had butted in albeit their necessity. At the same time though Alva didn't want to ruin Aurna's own positions. She could handle the interview, but she would require an excuse for the failed background check. A nomad then, Aurna hadn't mentioned much about her yet. She would do her best to protect herself and her world and make sure Aurna could be happy as well. Although as she walked in Crina's second princess didn't have to work hard at that necessarily since she walked over to give Aurna a kiss. "You said something about interviews and background checks? What are you getting me into?"

"Oh just a fun adventure... that I can't really talk about until you go through the ordeal of talking to my business partner. I figured you would want to come with, but if not, you don't have to love." She said returning Alva's kiss and then smiling. She loved when Alva was around, it made her more at ease. [member="Ice"] would probably notice this. Aurna smiled and waited for the whole thing to be over. "Ice, this is my girlfriend Alva, Alva, this is Ice, a business partner of mine and a friend of my aunt before she passed away." She smiled and hoped Ice would accept her, after all he apparently was somehow important to Alli, so she figured she should stick with him.
[member="Alva Calvarona"]

He raised an eyebrow at Aurna. "Awe! Surely this meeting has been all THAT bad." He said with a smirk and a small chuckle as he approached with an extended hand out to shake Alva's. "It's a pleasure to meet you ma'am."

After shaking her hand, he threw his behind his back and took a moment to take stock of the person before him. "Initial appearance seemed to indicate someone of importance. Excellent posture, impeccable appearance, and certainly asks the right questions. So she wasn't just a pretty face, there was a brain in there. Though the less than professional sign of affection in an official meeting was odd. Perhaps she was more of a model than a business or other type of leader? Someone used to getting their way and not caring what others felt? Hmm, could still mean someone important. Though business leaders very much cared about appearances no matter where they were. It wasn't usually till you got into politics that people tended to care less about that sort of thing. At least if they were in an area with people that didn't matter to them. Then there was the fact that Aurna wanted her along so badly....if she were nothing but a model, it would be an odd request to take her away from her activities that would make her successful. Not to mention, she would be completely out of her element at that point and all but useless. The only benefit here for this Alva person would be if she was important in business or government."

The thoughts were a whirlwind through his mind, and what may have seemed like a while for hi, was in reality mere fractions of a second. "But yes, like Miss Vern here indicated. I'll need you to sign this basic NDA form and as well as submit to a background check before we can proceed with further details. Security reasons obviously. I'm sure you understand." He wore a smile on his face the whole time, and never gave away his suspicious nature, especially considering these forms were standard procedure throughout the galaxy when dealing with any governmental or corporate secrets.

Handshaking seemed a bit more intimate than Alva would have liked, but then the business world was simple and formal without the ploys of court or politics. This man didn't impress her, but then not very many people did at first glance. Oh Alva wasn't looking down on him, she respected many people for their work or field even if it was in a lower class standing, but at the same time she couldn't help feeling with her first look at the man that he was the very annoying sort of person she would dislike. He probably only cared about what was in front of him and not the what ifs, maybes, or unknowns that could be in play. It almost made her want to smile imagining how quickly he would be lost dealing with two faced nobility.

Still, this was all important to Aurna, and Crina's second princess didn't intend to make a mess of things. The request to sign the forms was obviously standard, it would be stupid if they weren't. Even as isolated as Crina was, Alva wasn't dumb enough to think such things didn't exist and might prove an obstacle. For some things a lack of history was a good thing, heck most common people with nothing to their name had significiant information anyway, but it was probably a bit odd under the circumstances she wouldn't appear in the registry. . .. ."I'm honestly not sure what you'll find. I doubt my homeworld's name would mean anything as far out as it is. I guess to give an idea, its even further out into the rim than Bastion. I'll sign it, but I'm sorry if you find nothing beyond my recent travels into more populated and connected sectors. I'll fill out your forms though, after all it's only reasonable. I can try and give you whatever information myself you might need as well."

Ice sent the documents to be filed away and have her background pulled up. "Well then, perhaps you can simply fill me in on your background?" He said almost challengingly, though he maintained a pleasant smile. He wasn't a simpleton, and it was dealing with two faced characters that made him as cautious as he was. "You know, basic stuff. Home planet, species, age, work history, skill set."

It was as much an honest question as it was a trap. The longer someone spoke, the more likely they were to make a mistake if they were trying to hide something. So time to play the game.

He really was irritating.

Still, there was nothing to it as Alva sighed. She could lie a bit, she wasn't going to risk Crina being exposed no matter how unlikely it was anyone could get there. It was dangerous enough for travel in the system if anyone ever found it, even her own people with their maps had to be careful, and since the Imperials had helped spread the gravity well projectors and sleeper mine traps it was practically a fortress to reach. Add in that anyone who did appear and survived would be quickly eliminated by Imperial or Crinan Patrols and it was quite secure in theory, but people knowing at all bothered her. He wouldn't find it, he wouldn't get near it, but she didn't want him to look and cause trouble. "I'm from the planet Lenuta. Its small, a bit of a backwater I suppose as its behind culturally and technologically compared to the rest of the galaxy its seemed. We've had minor contact with outside forces at all, and have maintained isolationist policies for the most part. I've traveled a lot in the last bit though working in a variety of ways. Mostly in minor trade and even putting in work for some militaries. I studied on my homeworlds premiere academy and it included many skill oriented courses so I figured I would put them to use, though I feel I learned a lot since then after beginning training with a peculiar woman on how to wield slicewire."

She wasn't lying to much. Lenuta did exist, it was just even more obscure than her homeworld. . . . .and uninhabited.
