A Place Long Empty

Nemene stepped on a piece of broken rubble with a loud crunch, her boots breaking apart what had once been a stone statue. She frowned slightly as she looked at the bottom of her boot, grayish white residue covering the tip of it. Once the statue had likely been of some ancient Sith Lord, some powerful wielder of the darkside or another. Now it was but rubble, left behind in the wake of a panicked evacuation of Rudrig when the Sith Empire had fallen into anarchy and collapsed.

With a slight sniff Nemene turned her head upwards and away from the statue, her eyes falling on a mountain pass straight ahead of her. Somewhere up there lay the former vaults of the Sith Empire, ransacked and left bare by a dozen different people now.

Of course Nemene had no idea that the vaults had been emptied long ago by one @[member="Lord Dissero"], but was instead under the assumption that the knowledge that had lain within the Vault was taken when most of the Imperials had fled. Either way she doubted that she would find anything of substance, but instead she would find clues. Her genetic gift would allow her that much, and with slow methodical steps she began to climb up the path to the Vaults.

Nemene made quick progress, her eyes following listlessly every time she heard a noise or saw something in the corner of her eyes.

Even now this place was dangerous. Wayward Sith or even Jedi could pop out at any moment. Rudrig may have been largely abandoned by the Empire, but it was still a populated world. People came here for all sorts of different reasons, most chiefly, knowledge. There was still a grand university here, and the populace still greatly enjoyed teaching.

More than Nemene had come here after the Empire's fall, and more would come still.

The Dark Side had a quality about it that made it more attractive than most other aspects of the Force. Where the Dark Side lingered, it drew people from all over the Galaxy like moths to a flame... The slight taint left by the items in the Sith vault had been such a light for Turin as he struggled with his latest vision and his own darkness. He also came here in order to help refugees as the taint left behind by the artifacts had thrown the already caotic planet into total anarchy, riots and fires blazing for days after the Sith Empire fell.

As he helped a woman down into her small bed roll something was picked up on his radar. Something dark, and not a simple darkness. This one seemed to come from a deep place, like the pit of a fruit it was an integral part of whatever being it belonged to. It felt familiar, which is what terrified him. Standing up, letting the hood fall from his head, his hair had gotten longer now and was pulled back into a short ponytail. Exiting the tent, he raised his hand up to shield his eyes from the sun.

Closing his eyes he allowed himself to drift slowly into the White Current, gingerly stepping into its flow like he would a warm bath. In the White Current it was already hard enough to discern between "light" and "dark" as there were no such things within the unifying force, but the Dark Side corrupted the Force, shifting the Flow in odd ways. So despite there not being a difference in what he felt or saw, he could tell as the flow was twisted and distorted. Grabbing onto that distortion he opened his eyes again, now facing towards a large hill of what seemed like steps and he knew he had to go.

Nemene kept moving through the mountains. There was no complain in her, no thoughts of annoyance as she walked up the steps, no whining in her head as sweat beaded on her brow and slowly fell down the side of her face. She was a brat, but she was a brat that had been used to hard work and sweat since she was a child. Her father had made sure she trained hard and fought hard, climbing a mountain was nothing next to that.

So it was without complaint that Nemene found herself climbing ever onwards, a few hours passing by until she finally reached the entrance to the so well known Sith Vaults. Heavy blast door's ended in a surrounding courtyard, statues of ancient Sith and newer Emperor's lining the path to the entrance. She took on a look of stoic acceptance as she spied a stature of her father, Moridin.

He was long dead now, that much she knew.

“Well father. What secrets do these vaults still hold?” Her voice sanguine and with cold Orange eyes she wandered towards the double doors. She placed a single soft hand upon the metal, letting a pulse of the force run through them. Her face took on a slight frown, and with a single step she moved away from the door.

From her belt Nemene pulled her lightsaber, igniting one end of the weapon and plunging the orange hued blade into the Blast Doors. Slowly, she began to cut.

The trip up the mountain had taken longer than he expected. Things always looked so much smaller from farther away and he had taken on a lot, propelling himself up the steps, enhancing his speed with the Force. Reaching out to a pillar to hold himself up he exhaled a long breath before standing on his own again. The courtyard was a marvel. Sith Lords and Ladies carved into stone and placed here to honor them he guessed. He recognized many of the faces from the texts his master had made him read during his short time with the Jedi.

Looking up to the statue of Mordin his size and menacing expression felt like a pit in his chest, dark and heavy. He had been ruling the Sith around the time if not just before the Omni crisis when he began using the Force again. He stared deep into the man's eyes, feeling as if those firey pits burned into his very soul. His fixation on the statutes had absorbed him so much , he failed to notice the sound of a lightsaber cutting slowly through metal.

Leaning around the statue he looked to the blast door. Sparks flew as the plasma blade cut through the thick metal doors. Eyeing her closely he decided it was best to stay hidden and not say anytihng until she noticed.

Nemene finished slicing through the doors of the vault, the hot metal singing and burning, making loud hissing noises until finally her blade connected with the gap she had earlier formed. In one swift and fluid motion she withdrew the blade and deactivated it, placing it back on her hip and thrusting out her palm to let out a hard solid force push.

The Huge chunk of metal door blasted inwards and hit an opposing wall with a heavy thudding noise. She frowned slightly, as if she had noticed something, but did not make mention of it nor did she turned around.

Before the hot metal had time to cool Nemene made her way into the fore chamber of the vault, slipping into the darkness as though she belonged.

Of course she had seen the man behind the columns, her peripheral vision and training were such that it had been hard not to notice. A confrontation outside the vault however would have been foolish, she could not control the environment and she had no idea who this person was, no, better to go into the darkness, where she was the predator.

His eyes narrowed at the woman as she entered the hole. The fires of war had not even yet to smolder and already Sith had found their way back and were taking what they felt was theirs. Which meant the normal people, the ones who really could use a hand, were left to rot. He could feel the anger rising color to his neck and cheeks, but it was quickly suppressed. Anger would do him no good now.

He could have just walked away, but he didn't. Something compelled him to move forward, and into the hole that had by now cooled, and all at once his heart sank. The darkness was thick, the lingering taint of the Dark artifacts seeming to mingle with the natural absence of light, making it nearly pitch black to him. It all felt familiar. Reaching for his lightsabesr on instinct he took a few steps deeper into the darkness.

He was no stranger to the Dark Side. On the contrary his path of vengeance, albeit short, had allowed him to experience quite a bit of it, and it had lingered with him, like a blight on his being. Ironically this taint had brought him more peace than anything, making him understand that violence was not the role of a Jedi, or any Force user. But it was something that had become a part of his life. And he had to accept that in order to accept himself and the things he had done or be swallowed by the Dark Side.

A smirk fell on her lips as she felt the man follow her into the darkness of the vault. She said nothing of course, nor did she give any other outward indication of what she was about. Instead she drifted through the darkness, her eyes quickly adjusting to the pitch black with but a twist of the force. It was a simple thing that her father had aught her, using the force to make the eyes more sensitive to light. Of course If someone were to turn on the lights right about now it would hurt quite a bit...though she doubted there was any chance of that.

Inside of a few minutes Nemene reached the edge of an elevator shaft. Peering down into the even deeper blackness she pulled out a small grapple, hooking it to the side of one wall and then to her belt in one swift motion.

Then she pounced, moving into the void with swift feet.

From side to side she bounded down the elevator shaft, moving from wall to wall until the line on her grapple went taught. She frowned, knowing she still had quite a ways to go. From her leg she pulled out a sharp knife and with a jerk stabbed it into the duracrete wall. With a slow drag she began to descend even faster, eventually landing at the bottom of the vaults with a soft thud.

Movement.

His head whipped from side to side as he continued to walk forward as his eyes slowly adjusted to the dark. Following the sound and shadow he had seen moving he found his way to the end of the room, where he nearly tripped. He sucked in air as he nearly tumbled to his doom, gripping the side of the wall. Holding his breath for a moment he exhaled. A close mistake.

Activating his lightsaber, the snap hiss of his silver blade echoed down the shaft and throughout the room. For a moment he thought he saw a figure down below, though it was so far down it was hard to tell. Closing his eyes for a moment he searched the Force for any sign of life, only for his attempts to be smothered by the taint left behind. Sucking his teeth he looked down the shaft again. "Well...Only way to know...Is to take the plunge..." he muttered to himself.

Closing his eyes he muttered a dathomiri spell, Touch of the Kiin'Dray, focusing he jumped across the shaft, placing his hand on the duracrete wall, the Force keeping him plastered to like a fly on a stick trap. Sighing, he eased the connection, allowing himself to slide safely down the shaft.

Finally after a long time navigating her way through room after room Nemene made it to a large central plaza. This would be the way to the actual vaults, there the most secret and sacred of relics were placed. Now it was all empty of course. As she walked along her psychometry picked up feint traces of something. Quick flashes of memories, a man with a beard walking through the room, someone else with him. Artifacts being carried by the man over and over again.

For a brief second she wondered who he was, then she decided it didn't matter.

Slowly she made her way in front of another vault door, this time however she didn't draw her lightsaber. She simply grabbed the long hilt and turned around in front of the massive durasteel barrier.

“I know you're hear.” Her soft raven like voice rang out within the blackness, making it difficult to tell where she was.

Caught. Though he doubted he had been noticed just now. He hadn't been the sneakiest little Force user in the world chasing her down. Should he have tried harder? No, cornering anyone was always a bad idea. Narrowing his eyes he shrugged and pivoted, coming from behind a pillar. The room here was dark as well, but not nearly as dark as the rooms before it. But here, the Dark Side was thickest, though that wasn't saying a lot considering how faint the taint had been earlier.

The voice came from all directions, which could have been confusing, but being a pilot, he was used to echos and surround sound. He didn't allow it to confuse him. Instead he focused as he walked forward, towards what he assumed was the end of the room. "Figured." he said flatly, "I'm not very good at hiding. Why are you here? The Empire obviously removed everything of value before it collapsed."

Obviously the man was ignorant of who had truly taken the artifacts, but his question still held true. Why would a lone Force user waste time to explore an empty vault? He hoped he would find out.

Nemene stood quietly in front of the door, fingering the hilt of her lightsaber. She of course knew why she was here, the flashes of memory she would gain from the vault itself were more valuable to her than anything else. She would be able to gain leads on a dozen different Sith Artifacts and from there track them down. The artifacts were important they would help her in her goal to gain back Byss and separate it from The Republic.

Thought of course that would be just a start.

“Have you no sense of adventure?” She spoke up once again through the darkness, her eyes lit up slightly within the abyss. Orange orbs flared. “I enjoy seeing the local sights.”

That wasn't entirely untrue. Nemene had always enjoyed seeing different worlds...if they were clean. Rudrig would have fallen under that category, though only the university. This section of the planet was entirely unappealing to her...aside from the vault of course which was her main goal. Otherwise she would never have come here, it was far too...filthy.

Adventure? A chuckle came from the man as he took s a few more tentative steps toward the orange glowing eyes. "No, no. My time of adventure is sadly slowing to a close," The man seemed sincere, almost trusting as he spoke. It wasn't as if he couldn't have told the woman was a Sith earlier, he had simply begun to realize that Dark and Light were the two sides of the same coin. Slowly but surely he had forgiven the Sith for what they had done, but not forgotten. As his studies of the White Current and other Force traditions continued he saw the Force as one big...Pool of life.

He also knew she wasn't telling him the whole truth.

"But really, why are you here? I can feel you in the Force. Powerful, ambitious." he said, playing to the typical Sith's sense of pride and superiority. "Was there something the Sith missed that only you know of?" If there was such a thing, Jaxton would likely like to keep it out of the hands of both the Sith, should they return in force, and the Jedi with their seemingly hostile takeover of the Galaxy.

Nemene tilted her head slightly, the bright orange orbs that were her eyes shifting within the blackness when she moved. She had no idea what the man wished to accomplish, only a fool would tell him their purpose here, and perhaps even a fool would not be so foolish. Her frown became a placid expression of nothingness, and her eyes seemed to gather a sheen to them.
“Do you honestly believe me so foolish? That I would share such secrets with you?” Nemene spoke outloud, her voice slithering like a snake.

Slowly she pulled the lightsaber from her belt. The hand and a half long hilt seemed to flicker slightly in what little light there was down here. She assumed that the man would try to fight her, but that was always her thinking when it came to strangers. They would either fight, or they would die.

He stopped and brought his hand to his chin to think for a moment. He never assumed that anyone was foolish, not until they proved themselves to be so. Instead of answering her question he shrugged and continued to walk towards her. "No, I doubt that you seem to be a very intelligent girl." He had noticed the lightsaber, the murderous intent. He hadn't come to this planet to fight, he had come to help the people on it. He just didn't feel like fighting anymore.

She was within view of his acclimated vision now. She didn't seem much older than Sophia. Much stronger than he had originally assumed, that much he could tell. Stopping now he placed his hand on the cool surface of a pillar, a small chill rising up his spine. This place, was rich with the memories of many Sith, though in the short time he had, he wouldn't be able to piece together what exatly she had come for. For now he would stay, and merely observe. He wondered how long, as the Dark side was picking at old wounds, attempting to bring the darkest thoughts out of him. "I suppose, what I'm wondering is...Is what ever you are looking for worth the damage. Do the ends justify the means?"
