Private A Noble Venture

Epicanthix Colony
A few days after...

Even though it had been a few days since she arrived, Katherine still felt a bit strange waking up in a new place. She had the same feeling back at the Jedi Temple, but eventually got used to the cramped quarters that were provided there. Making the space available at the Noble’s homestead, a breath of fresh air.

She hadn’t waited long in making some alterations and additions. Already requested a couple desks, one of which would be wholly dedicated to designing and drawing. The other would be focused on tinkering.

Kahlil had made a joke at one point, saying she was going to end up making her room into a mini-workshop. The Padawan did nothing to deny the suggestion.

When she wasn’t occupied there, she had spent time with Vera, Aris and of course the triplets. Again, Katherine didn’t know how they were able to handle caring for so many children. Though, she supposed having to wrangle all their Padawans collectively was good practice.

Today however, was going to be something a little different. During dinner the previous day, Valery had brought up the topic of taking her somewhere. Where exactly, she didn’t say. Just advised Katherine to pack relatively lightly in the morning.

Of course, the mysterious destination was a topic that plagued the Padawan’s thoughts that night. Keeping her up until fatigue eventually caught up to her. But she was ready and raring to go when she walked out the door.

Sooooo, where are we going?

"I can't just tell you," Valery said with a chuckle, as well as a more teasing grin. "It's way more fun to show you. So come on, let's head out." Valery nudged Katherine towards the door, then waved her kids goodbye and raised her voice to call out to Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble , who was going to be watching the kids while they had a girls day. "See you later, love! We'll be back before dinner!" She chuckled, then opened up the front door to lead Katherine outside.

The Noble's home wasn't in the center of Niv Hani, the Epicanthix city that was expanding rapidly. They had instead chosen to build it just a bit out of town, near the forest and its beautiful river. It kept their already busy life a lot more peaceful, and the city was still a walking distance away.

It was perfect for the family.

"First, though... would you be interested in getting yourself some Epicanthix clothes? I'm wearing mine and it's very comfortable what they make here." She looked down at her gown and smiled warmly. "I'm sure it'd look great on you."

Katherine pouted when Valery didn’t give an answer. Not that she was expecting anything definitive, maybe just a little hint? But the winged Padawan was ever a bundle of curiosity and excitement these days. Now that she had gotten over her fear of the unfamiliar.

She was a far cry from the young girl that had been found cowering in the corner of a cell. Frightened at the very prospect of stepping outside of a door.

Now she was walking on a planet wholly unfamiliar to her, albeit beside someone she trusted her life with. But the Katherine of before would’ve still been very meek and afraid despite it.

I’d love to get some new clothing!” The Padawan’s eyes lit up with excitement, though seconds later her cheeks burned a little red, remembering why she was always in need of new stuff. “Do they do custom stuff? Like for someone with wings?

Katherine had gone through no end of tunics back at the Jedi Temple. Sure, modifications had been made to accommodate her wings. But ever since she had started using flight in her training, those modifications became worn out and eventually ruined the top.

She needed stuff that was durable enough to last.

Valery's lips tugged up into a smirk at Katherine's excitement, "There are some good tailors in town who will make you something custom. I had this dress fitted to me as well, to get it just right." Valery was quite particular about the clothing she liked, which made shopping trips always fun for her family. Luckily, Kahlil didn't mind being dragged around town to watch her try on countless of outfits too much.

Or he was just good at hiding it.

"Do you like dresses? Or tunics? Or really baggy clothes?" Valery then asked before she hummed. "We'll also need to get you some new shoes, and maybe a shawl? It's getting close to winter." Now there was no stopping Valery anymore, and it showed as she grabbed hold of Katherine's arm to pull her along towards town.

This was going to be a great day!

Um, all of the above and probably more?” Katherine replied with a sheepish chuckle. “I haven’t had a need for a dress so far, but I imagine that’ll happen eventually.” The Padawan paused as she tapped her chin in thought. “Definitely need some practical and comfortable stuff too.

She was completely sure on what else to get, but Katherine would leave it to Valery’s expertise.

As they finally made it to the city, and Katherine took her first steps into Niv Hani, her eyes were wide with wonder.

Oh, wow…” She murmured, her gaze shifting here, there and everywhere.

Katherine had only been to a handful of planets since started her training as a Jedi. In that time she had seen a varying degree of sights, but nothing quite like the Epicanthix city. The streets were lively with people, not too unlike Coruscant, and yet different in its own way.

It had a different ‘energy’, as it were.

Of a people and their city, ever thriving and expanding.

So, what’s our first stop?” Katherine asked, forcing herself to look away from all the sights, and towards Valery instead.

There was a dangerous sparkle in Valery's eyes when Katherine seemed interested in all of it and more. Only Vera usually enjoyed going shopping with her, but she was still a little kid. So now that she had someone else to spend shopping time with, Valery was quite excited.

Of course, it was also fun to bring her into the new city. "It's amazing when you know how young this city is. The Epicanthix people are resilient and very hard-working," Valery said as they entered town, and likely felt like dwarves. The Epicanthix were also insanely tall, which always made Valery feel like she was the shortest in the entire colony.

"Let's start with casual clothes and a dress, hm? Maybe shoes after that? Then we'll grab lunch and enjoy the day."

Valery’s comment about the city had Katherine looking around again, missing that dangerous sparkle in her eyes. Not that it would’ve done anything to deter the Padawan’s excitement. She wanted to explore everything about Niv Hani, all the sights to see and the people to meet.

True, they haven’t been here long in the grand scheme of things. It’s inspiring honestly.

Especially given the fact they were a group of people that had been forced to leave their home. Had to uproot their entire lives and find somewhere new to settle.

The Epicanthix people were truly determined.

Casual clothes, hmm…” Katherine hummed in thought as she tried to think up some ideas. “If I’m being honest, I haven’t a clue what would suit me. I’ve just worn my Jedi robes most times.

Katherine was a little taken aback once they started walking amongst the Epicanthix. Reading and seeing them on a holo-screen was one thing, seeing them in real life was a whole other experience.

They’re like literal giants.

"Jedi robes aren't actually too far off from what they wear," Valery said as she gestured down to her dress, "Looser clothes, robes but with a little more skin showing usually. They value their freedom in whatever they wear, so it's not usually overly form-fitting. That said, the Epicanthix have adopted styles from many other cultures into their own, so there's always something you'd like out here." She chuckled and guided Katherine into the clothing store.

Her own favorite one, of course.

Inside, the shop offered everything — from fancy dresses, to torn jeans and of course the more traditional Epicanthix style of clothing. Valery's dress was quite like those designs, but just fitted to her figure.

"Go take a look around, and tell me if you see anything you like!"

Katherine’s eyes widened as she looked at the numerous shelves and racks that held different articles of clothing. There was a whole lot of variety to choose from, and the Padawan felt a little bit overwhelmed. But the encouraging words from Valery pushed her forwards, and she disappeared down an aisle.

As she began to look, Katherine realised she was probably going to need to note down what she liked. So she placed down her bag and riffled through it until she pulled out a datapad.

Never let it be said that she wasn’t one to come prepared for an outing.

Jeans were the first thing she jotted down, knowing they were pretty much a timeless trend in the galaxy. Following that was some more leisurely clothing for when she just wanted to be lazy. A couple more stylish choices, one’s that Katherine considered ‘fancy’. Then of course, a few dresses that caught her eye. One being in the Epicanthix style.

All that was really missing were tops, which Katherine was struggling to find something she liked. Or more importantly, wouldn’t be a total hassle to use. Knowing it was going to be pointless to just continue looking around by herself, Katherine walked up to the desk.

Um, hello…” She began, looking up at the person behind it. “I was wondering about shirts, jackets, etcetera. Whether you had custom stuff? Or well…things that would accommodate for…me.” The Padawan’s cheeks burned slightly as she realised she was rambling a bit. Instead of talking further, she fanned her wings out a bit to emphasise what she was trying to say.
