A Little Tweaking... (Enigma)

SARI busily maneuvered through the complex circuitry that were the inner workings of the ship. She'd recently discovered a new kind of music that had developed in the last decade and was humming along to it in her mind as she made her way to Cassandra's private laboratory. Materializing on the corner of her desk, SARI smiled brightly. "Good morning, Cassandra," she said.

A soft smile crossed Circe's face as she eyed over the holographic program that formed itself in front of her. "Morning, Sari! Glad to see you're up and about. You've been spending a lot of time with Onyx, as I've seen... and I thought it was time to get to work on a new experiment. One involving you. It'll revolutionize the world of sentient AI - make them human, and able to love the way only humans and other sentients have been able to do for thousands of years. Would you like to know some more about it?"

SARI thought for a moment. "Sounds interesting. Since AIs can feel love like any other being, I'm wondering what you mean exactly."

"Well, suppose you're an AI. Like you, for existence. And you want to have a family. Until now, the only way you could ever successfully have said family was through adoption, or the use of surrogates. But I believe I've developed a way for an AI and human, or any other species, to have a child, if their data is DNA-based like your own. Would you like me to elaborate?"

As she did so, a drop of blood was placed in a small vial, one she moved to attach to a strange machine, connected to the mainframe itself.

SARI looked over at the machine. She scanned its inner workings for a second before answering. "Please do. Where are you going with this?"

"This is a... special machine. It converts human DNA, typically sperm - though it can be other DNA-containing liquids - into a specialized viral package designed to interact with your code. To "impregnate" you, for better lack of term. Being a virus, it adapts, adopting some of your DNA-comprised code into itself - until you give "birth" to a newborn AI child. I'm still working on a way to synthesize sperm for male AIs to use with females."

Well, that was awkward, but essentially the case. "We can try it out with some preprogrammed samples I have. They won't result in any complete AIs - I just want to showcase the process."

SARI nodded, taking in what she was saying. "So, you're making a way for AIs and organics to mate? To be honest, that is something I've never considered before. How would this process begin?"

"Let me show you." The blood sample was drained into the machine, and were Sari still anywhere inside of said machine, she would sense that a data conversion was occurring. The DNA in the blood was being encoded, transformed into a viral packet that would begin the process. Were Sari still in her mainframe, however, a small ball of red data would appear, whizzing around her. "There we go... That packet of code is the viral data. I changed its color to red to distinguish it from you. Now, I need you to shove the data into your... male-female data port so the experiment can begin."

SARI felt the data surge enter her systems. She stared with surprise as the tiny red ball appeared spinning behind her. "Wait, you want me to get pregnant? Right now?" She asked Cassandra. "With all due respect, doesn't that sound a little..... sudden?"
[member="Enigma"]

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
"Being that you're an AI, this 'pregnancy' is a little different. After a certain stage in development, this particular viral packet will dissolve itself. Complete dissolution, no bugfrags or anything like that left over. I merely have to test the procedure out so it'll work out when first tried fully. No, I'm not aborting the programs - at the time of dissolution, they will still be non-sentient programs. This I promise." Circe wasn't one to kill unborn children, whether AI or real.

"Trust me."

SARI caught the little red ball, letting it levitate slightly above her palm. She stared at it uneasily. "I know it's a little childish to ask, but..... Will it.... Will it hurt?" Pain was not something SARI was familiar with, though she knew the concept of it. She wasn't keen on finding out what it was like, either.

"The 'impregnation' will not hurt. Neither will gestation or birth. Your holographic form may resemble a woman with child, though - the visualization of the viral data does need a way to showcase itself. I doubt there'll be any side effects, considering your being an AI, not a biological woman." She smiled, almost wishing that Sari were real. "Go ahead." She placed her hands on her hips. "Do it and make history by becoming the first AI to get pregnant."

SARI took a deep breath. "Okay..." She lifted the red orb to her mouth, and swallowed it. It could visibly be seen traveling down her throat, through her chest, and into her stomach where it stayed. Once there, it began to pulsate softly. SARI looked down at her stomach putting her hands over the spot. She could feel tiny bits of data being slowly collected from herself by the ball. "How long will it last?" She asked Cassandra, not looking away from it.

Circe was surprised that was the way Sari intook data - orally, not... well, she was naked all the time and didn't seem to have any way to input the data there. The reddish pulsating in the AI's "belly" would slowly begin to increase as the viral code began to infest her systems, taking data of hers as its own - but not absorbing it. The data was merely copying Sari's own - the female chromosome to merge with the Y of the chromosomes inputted into the machine. And over the course of a few minutes, it would continue to grow inside the AI's holographic form, like an actual child - Circe didn't know if Sari could sense the viral data shifting within, but pulses of red running though her abdomen certainly indicated that it was active.

SARI watched awe as the tiny orb began to grow in size. Little by little, more data was collected from her as the orb fattened her form. It was as if she was literally growing a child. "Amazing... " She said as she continued to watch herself increase in size.

Smiling, Circe circled around Sari's pregnant holographic form, grinning with glee as she occasionally clapped her hands happily. "I've done it! I've successfully bridged the digital and physical realms!" She gave one last spin around before smiling. "How does it feel, Sari? Does it feel good to be, well, a pregnant AI? Any real difference, aside from the data developing within your own code?"

[member="SARI"]

SARI shook her head. "No, no, I don't feel a thing! Just the slow transference of data, and that's barely even tickling!" She smiled, slightly excited. This meant that if she ever wanted to, she could have offspring. She could, at last, be somewhat more human.

A soft smile crossed her lips as she eyed the holographic form of the AI, currently developing a new program inside of her own. "Stand in front of me, please... let's examine you." With a combination of solid-state holographic technology and advanced droid bodies utilizing synthetic skin, organs, etcetera, Circe would be capable of letting AIs... well... be human. "I want to, well... look you over."

SARI disappeared in a flash of light for a moment. Seconds later, she appeared in front of Cassandra courtesy of the life-size holo-projector at her feet. SARI was now eye-level with her. "So, by normal means, how long would you say that this pregnancy would last?" She asked.
[member="Enigma"]

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Well, for full development, I would likely program it to take around nine months. Maybe ten, in order for that special guy to endure with you as his wife a real-time pregnancy. This developmental pregnancy however will only take a good ten minutes to reach the stage of gestation at which point it will dissolve itself and self-terminate." Running her hands through the hologram's 'pregnant' abdomen, she raised her eyebrows. "How does it feel to know you can be a mother now?"
