A Jaryn Meeting

She had seen him only once yet left an impression that would last. Who was this [member="Jaryn Rhane"]? Kana knew he was a master but little else, she had heard the occasional mention from a few of the other masters but that was not much to go on. He had certainly helped during Corvus’ class way back but beyond that she had no idea who he was.

She had heard mention of him though. Yet from the sound of it he was possibly more used to life outside of the order. Not that Kana wasn’t but Jaryn had certainly seen a lot of the galaxy in a way that Kana would never in her life see it - with the force. Was that a topic worth investigating? Yes, it was. What was it like to be a jedi who helped the Republic’s Jedi Order yet maintained your own independence?

It was for that reason Kana had tried to reach him. She wanted to find out more about the way things worked when working by yourself like that. Not that she was planning on leaving the order but a girl could never be too curious. Well, they could but in this case it was clearly nothing

Having asked him to meet her in the gardens of the temple for a simple talk she had no expectations for him to actually arrive. He was surely a very busy man, being a master and all. Kana herself would be struggling at times to keep up with the Order business yet she was only a knight. At this point she truly dreaded the day she too would be a master.

In a sense it felt ironic that they’d be at the temple talking about life outside of it. Then again, it wouldn’t be all about life outside of the order. Getting to know more people than just Johnny, Corvus and Kian was still on her to-do list so why not start with Jaryn?

She meditated on the very same spot she had first instructed her very first padawan. For now, it was as good of a pass-time as any. Had the master accepted her call then hopefully he’d recognize her. Hopefully. If not, at least she had tried to describe the area in her message, right?

Jaryn, had never been asked to go anywhere before. Sure, some of his fellow students back at the temple on coruscant had known of his interest in the archives and often seeked him out for guidance through the daunting archives. But, that was a long time ago and it was a different man.

Now, someone was seeking him out upon his knowledge of the outside world. Something if you told him a couple years back he would of telepathically laughed. Now, he was a different man. He was a warrior and a self dependant source for the Republic. He would never call himself a Jedi, he wasn't that arrogant. But he was a Master, but not of the Jedi Order. Of the force. The force was his ally, regardless of allegiance. Though, he shared a common goal with the Republic and their endearing protectors. The end of the Sith and their broken Empire.

However, this young women [member="Kana Truden"] had sought him out for his knowledge and nothing more. Not his opinions or his life story, though he may have to shed some light on such things to give context to some potential questions. But, Jaryn knew Ossus well and was early. But kept his force signature hidden, as he wished to observe. Watching the girl behind stern eyes, he silently moved across the landscape in a traditional Jedi garment of dark blues and browns. (As seen in profile picture) It was the farthest thing from a conventional jedi garbs, however his Scoundrel Outfit if worn would only further alienate his fellow Jedi brethren from himself.

And that, he didn't need. He began walking closer to Kana as he had studied her for some time and allowed his force signature to become larger, and larger until he was fully visible through the force. His eyes dancing across her golden hair and small face, then to her saber and garments. He then spoke to her, telepathically as this was his chosen method of communication. He was in fact, speech-impaired. -Good evening, Knight Truden- He spoke, being formal for the time being. However, depending on the woman's personality that may change in the coming minutes. However, Jaryn decided to wait and see.

Insatiably, of course.

Kana twitched for a second as the message reached into her mind. She contemplated if she too were going to use telepathy to communicate but decided against it. At least for now, maybe later, but for now she’d be using her mouth to talk. If not because of her lacking skill with telepathy then simply because, well, it was how she was used to communicating.

“Good evening, Master Rhane.” Kana got up from the ground and brushed the dirt off of her jumpsuit before bowing with a smile. “But please, call me Kana.”

“I must admit, I wasn’t sure you’d come. Being a friend of The Order and all that I thought you’d be out there helping people.” Kana’s smiled faded rapidly as she realized what she had said. “Not that I wish to imply that you’re not welcome or that you aren’t helping people! I simply meant that you might have been too busy to spend time play ‘twenty questions’ with a curious knight on Ossus.”

She laughed. Make a fool out of herself during socialization, that’s what she did best. As far as second first impressions went she probably wasn’t making the best one. She looked at Jaryn for a bit as she recollected her thoughts. His way of dressing was unconventional much like hers had been when she had first arrived. Not that she were specially 'conventional' herself with her jumpsuit but there had been several jedi throughout ages who preferred those over robes just like her. Honestly she took any excuse she could to not wear those uncomfortable robes that her friends seemed to favor.

But fashion was not why they had met and Kana shook her head.

“Sorry, what I meant to say was.” The girl took a deep breath before continuing. “I’ve heard about you and what you do. You’ve remained a friend of the Order yet you’re not directly a part of it. So I found myself asking how that happened, what's it like?”

Jaryn stood still and silent as he allowed Knight Truden to regain her thoughts. But, she seemed flustered. Which, almost made the weathered man smile. But, as she eventually got her point across, Jaryn's expression changed to that of deep thought with an almost unnoticeable tinge of sorrow in his eyes. He crossed over his left arm and rested his right elbow against it as he placed his chin in his hand, his thumb stroking the thick stubble he had grown over the passing months. -That is, admittedly a hard question. Life outside the order, is like any life Kana- Jaryn outstretched his right hand and levitated a rock into the air. Then, using the ability to understand shatterpoints. Saw its cracks and gently tore the rock apart, holding it in several different pieces in the air. -The force, lives in everything. The grass beneath us, in me, you, ever this rock. Everythings the same Kana. Life, always has it cracks- He explained, slowly placing the rock back together telekinetically, showing the crack he had opened to destroy the rock.

-Each life has its weaknesses, each life has its good and bad. Each life, is heavy with strife and joy. But, before I can show you such things, what it means to live on the outside...-

He allowed the shards of the rock to fall, scattered across the grass floor. His eyes fell upon the young girl. Crossing his arms over, he looked her over once more. Studying her mind and body in depth. He could see how she would shatter, if just in the right place and or time. It was useful to know your enemies weaknesses, but even more so your friends. So, that you may better protect them. -Tell me, Kana- He spoke, taking a few steps closer. But remaining outside of what would be considered an intimate distance. -Why, do you want to know about such a life? When you have your own?- He threw his hands up, his palms outstretched to the walls around them.

-There is so much of this life you yet don't understand, so I can only guess. You feel as though somethings missing- He spoke, letting his arms fall down as he grasped his hands behind his back.

-Is there something missing, Kana?-

In each life strife and joy. She knew this well but decided against commenting on it. Ancient history rarely were one of her favorite topics. It may have seemed as such for those she truly knew but if anything it was reassurance that she’d never forget about it, no matter how painful memories could be.

But the question if anything was missing she truly had no answer for. She was a knight yet she felt obligated to stay close to the temples for the sake of her padawans. Perhaps it simply was a girl’s wish to daydream of what could have been or maybe it was idle fantasies of some kind of great adventure. Kana’s hand rose from her sides to tuck a few loose strands of hair behind her ear.

“A friend of mine from before the order told me to go out there and see the galaxy while I still could.” The girl smiled at the mention of her friend. “That I should find something that made me want to live again.”

She looked up at Jaryn, she had probably shared just a bit too much information with that last part. It didn’t matter, it was better to get those things out of the way as soon as possible anyway.

“Well here I am, I found the will to live but feel like I lost the chance to truly get out there.” She scratched the back of her neck. The more she thought about it the stupider her questions felt. “I guess I just wanted to understand how different people perceive the galaxy. What makes you want to get up in the morning and just keep on pushing, y’know?”

“I mean, for me it’s my padawans and my friends. That I can take joy in the fact that I’m helping someone along their way to become just like me. Yet I still hold onto that one thought in the back of my mind asking me: What if?”

Jaryn as always was forever silent and a great listener, nodding along as the girl became more embarassed as she co tinted to stutter, mumble and waiste Jaryn's time. But, regardless of this he found it quite amusing. He allowed a small grin to pierce through the well crafted silent cascade that was his rigid silence of body and thought. He turned on his heel and paced back and forth, clearly nuking over his answer before he stopped mere feet away from [member="Kana Truden"]

-Well, let me say now there's nothing stopping you from going out there and seeing the world. You can do that as a Jedi, but a Jedi will never be able to truly live in the real world. The Jedi will never experience what it feels like knowing the tax payer will beat you if you don't have enough credits, they don't understand what it's like to be robed or smugglers or have to steal food to keep on going-

Jaryn looked Knight Truden directly in the eyes.

-I know these things, and knowing this still happens is what keeps me going, I didn't need to search for a reason. It found me; the life of the Jedi is an ignorant one. They fight for their order, I fight for the people. It may be principle but that matters-

Jaryn had never shared these thoughts with anyone before, but no one had ever cared to ask.

-What if? We are not the same person Kana. I can't answer that for you-

Jaryn was honest, that much had become evident. In a sense his words almost stung a bit, but they were all good questions to ask herself. The fact that Kana - as a jedi - would never be able to travel around the galaxy the same way as anyone else had not been lost on her. She had to be respectable at all times. Remain calm in situations where she would would want to do nothing but lose it. However, at the same time people looked up to her in a whole other way. Her duty was a mixed blessing but it was still on the positive.

“I know that the galaxy looks to me in a whole other way and I am thankful for it.” She nodded slowly. “I could get out there and see the galaxy as it is right now, but would I see the galaxy or would I see it as a jedi?”

Did that even make sense? Hopefully.

“Time will tell.” Kana shrugged. “Either way it’s a fair point. I should get out more and get reacquainted with reality.” A quiet chuckle surfaced and she put on a dumb-looking face. “Temple service has a way of making you forget about the rest of the galaxy works.”

“Maybe I should revisit Taboon, see how the refugees are doing...

[ [member="Jaryn Rhane"] ]

Jaryn, as he had all throughout this conversation continued to simply nod and smirk occasionally at [member="Kana Truden"]'s passing comments.

-Maybe you should, and if you do. I'll come with you-

The young Master never really offered to go along on missions as a guide, but Kana had come to him and Jaryn would do all he could to help answer her questions. All but try to take her away from her order, he didn't have that right. But, if Kana chose that path she'd experience true loneliness as Jaryn had for months on end. It had challenged his sanity and caused his traumatized mind to mature quicker than he would've wanted it to. He could never go back to how it was before, and neither could Knight Truden if she made the choice to leave the Order.

When the answer arrived that maybe she should revisit Taboon after all there was something inside of her that just sort of dropped. Like a rock going downhill almost. If there was one place she remember suffering from it was the station she knew as Taboon. All those refugees and the desperation. It would probably still be a lot of the same but revisiting it would be a good way to at least remember what it was like to see what suffering truly was.

“I think, I think I should.” Kana looked up at Jaryn as she re-entered the real world. “Taboon was the last place I could actually feel misery at. I know that sounds really wrong when said out loud.”

So she wanted to feel misery and despair? The words may have come across as incredibly sith-like but the purpose clearly weren’t. She simply wanted to visit the last place where she had seen the aftershock from the war. The desperation as all the families who lost their homes and livelihoods to the sith were all herded onto a space station in the middle of nowhere and far away from home.

“My first mission for the Order took place on Taboon. On a space station where they sent a lot of refugees affected by the war with the Sith. It’s not a place I have very fond memories of but I think it would be a good reminder of things.”
