A hyperlane for us all

The economic possibilities for a new hyperlane had been broached with the Republic once already, but with the need of it to go through Atrisian Empire space it had not been possible. Now however it was a possibility with the addition of the Atrisians to this equation. With Yun-Harla besides him the Governor of Bakura opened a holo communication to both the Atrisian Emperor, and Chancellor Halen. It was a scheduled meeting for all of them, and as politeness dictated they had all arrived for the meeting on time.

"Greetings, Your Imperial Highness, and, Chancellor Halen. I present to you Yun-Harla one of the Lords of the Fringe confederacy. As we all know we are coming together today to discuss the possibility of a new hyperspace land running from the Fringe, through the Atrisian Empire, and ending at the Core. I'd like to check over the details, and concerns of this venture before the Chancellor brings it to the Senate for ratification. The Grand Marshall has also asked to be present to lead another leg into the heart of the CIS allowing us all to form a new lane for peaceful trade."

Stepping aside Sargon gave the Fringe's position to Yun-Harla who would make the final decision on the Fringe's part for this venture. While it was his role to assist the grand strategist of the Fringe, it was not his role to stand before her.

The Atrisian Emperor sat, a cup of tea beside him, waiting for the transmission. When his holotable activated, he nodded in greeting to those gathered. While he had lost much of his respect for the Republic when they had voted in a young cultist girl to the Chancellor's seat, this was business. And like war, business could not be affected by personal feelings. So for now he would put up with this newest Chancellor, who Akio had not seen in action.

"Ni Hao Governor Vynea, Lady Yun-Harla, Chancellor. The Atrisian Empire has long profited with its trade in Republic space, but the treaty I signed with Chancellor Saelari has long become outdated I feel. A more open approach to trade is needed for everyone. The Unknown Regions are far less 'unknown' than they used to be, and it is time we create a hyperlane through this harsh space to better unite all of our peoples."

"I agree" Halen finally stated, taking a breath. This was a big step, but something like this could be incredibly beneficial to relations, as well as trade. The question was, would the Senate allow it? He would bring it to them after this of course.

"Greetings, Emperor Akio, and to you as well Sargon" he spoke politely, muling this offer over in his head. "This would be a great boon to the Republic's trade, and again I agree, this would be a much better way to unite our peoples" he said.

Halen held no ill will toward the Artisian Empire or it's Emperor, despite their misgivings to the Republic. He viewed the Emperor as a smart man, who could be an amazing ally if the sides could build relations and co-exist.

"Of course, I'll have to bring this to the Senate. This isn't something to take lightly, obviously" Halen said. And it was true, the Senate had been nipping at his heels ever since his actions had ended the war threat to the Republic, despite the sacrifices it took. Despite the public image hit Halen took, he didn't regret it. He would rather sacrifice his own pride then harm the Republic and it's allies, after all.

Spencer pressed the mask tighter on her face; the face she saw from the Republic was one that she hadn’t expected. It threw her off to not see Aleidis, but things must have happened with in the republic which meant that she needed to look into it. The matter was something that quickly distracted her from what they were discussing, but in a moment she quickly reverted her attention back towards the conversation on the hyperlanes.

Smiling softly she nodded towards the Emperor then turned her attention towards the Republic man.

“Evening Chancellor…Halen is it?”

It was a question of his position and his rude nature to simply and utterly ignore her. Looking back towards the Emperor she gave him a warmer greeting. As much as she was interested in forging the hyperlanes she quickly invested herself in the creation of pleasantries with the Emperor.

“I agree with you as well Emperor Akio, those of us that are out in the Unknown Region –well we know it quite well and have seen the worst that decides to creep out of the cracks. With the Unity of our people we can focus on forging more than just pleasantries – possibly more. Now as for the Republic – as much as I would enjoy having access to the Core – what would it cost us? And how long will the Senate delegate on it. No offense Um, Chancellor Halen…you’re not known for your turn over rate. “

As he listened to the masked woman, Akio decided that he liked her. It behooved him to not trust her, after all every head of state had their own motivations for everything they did. Still, like and trust did not mean the same thing. So, his decision that he liked her. A small movement of Akio's fan carried through the holonet, and he spoke up before the Chancellor so as to seize the advantage in the conversation.

"Unlike the inefficiencies of the Republic, the Atrisian Empire has no such difficulties. Any decision I make today, and any agreement we come to, will be binding. The proposal I have today will link Atrisia, Csilla, and Annaj intersecting many of our vital planets along the way. This means for the first time the entire Unknown Regions will be connected, and give both Csilla and Annaj a direct pipeline into my section of the Core.

"As for costs, I am willing to suffer a short term economic dip from the costs for the long term economic boom we will received when it is completed. As such I am willing to pay for the entire route up to the borders of Fringe space. I would be willing to pay for all the costs if you were willing to grant Atrisian goods significantly reduced tariffs and... to sell us Phu and its surrounding territory."

Halen hadn't actually slighted Harla. In reality, he hadn't seen her immediately while he was making his statement, having gotten a little too caught up in thought as he spoke. As she spoke to him, Halen gave her a heartwarming smile, feeling guilty about not seeing her at first. He was an old man, he was bound to miss things at his age. He just hoped the woman didn't take it to heart. He felt no ill will toward her, nor did he toward @[member="Akio Kahoshi"]. "Ah, you must be miss Yun Harla" he responded politely, his smile never waning. "I didn't sign up for this job expecting to see a beautiful woman during my meetings, you could call me pleasantly surprised". He didn't answer when she spoke of his turnover rate, simply nodded in response with a slight smile, allowing her to say her peace without interruption. These statements were nothing new to him.

"The Senate doesn't seem to take very long to make it's decisions these days" Halen admitted with a slight chuckle once she had finished. "On a non holiday occasion, with everyone accounted for, they make up their minds quite quickly" he added.

Of course, when @[member="Akio Kahoshi"] immediately spoke ill of the Republic and it's "inefficiencies", Halen raised an eyebrow. He almost regretted attempting to treat the man with respect, but having been a Senator for years upon years, Halen was used to having jabs taken, it wasn't worth the fuss.
