Gario Galahad Gario Galahad
Braze was focused on keeping the ship steady. He didn’t seem put off by the sentiments that came through the newly established Force bond, nor did he offer any judgment as he shifted slightly to avoid a stray shot sent his way. He was unnervingly calm, as if he’d grown so used to being shot at that the present circumstances scarcely fazed him. That much was evident through the bond they shared; even beneath blaster fire, his presence remained oddly steady. His attention settled upon the water ahead and Gario’s footing behind him, easing their course across the wake to keep the deck as level as he could.

He cast a fleeting glance toward the stranded enemies before easing the boat to a slower speed, angling it this way and that to avoid the denser sections of the mangroves as they closed in upon their destination. A hushed sense of admiration for Gario’s handling of their pursuers passed through the connection. Braze kept it unspoken, guiding the barge toward a clearer stretch of water.

Only the mildest sentiment of sympathy accompanied what had slipped between them through the Force, with no apparent judgment attached to it. He left those glimpses of the man’s life undisturbed, neither prying further nor withdrawing behind his usual mental shields. As Gario turned toward him, Braze silently met his gaze, his hands resting upon the controls as though awaiting further instructions, ready to carry them out.

Gario stared at Braze Braze for a second, a knot forming in his stomach. The kid hadn't even flinched at the thoughts that slipped through their Force connection. No shock, just quiet sympathy that made Gario cut the link abruptly and drag a wet palm down his face. He hadn't even thought to ask how old the kid was before opening his mind up like that.

If the Temple back home ever found out he'd been broadcasting memories of dockside women and gambling debts to a younger Jedi, they'd strip his robe off before he could blink. "Right. Well," Gario muttered, looking anywhere but at the kid. "That's enough of that." Fortunately, the barge scraped up against the muddy bank beside the swamp warehouse.

Through the fog, the rusted metal walls of the hideout rose dark and quiet above the water. Gario stepped onto the deck, already thinking about finding a dry stool and a drink the second this job was over. He reached over, giving Braze a light tap on the shoulder, and pointed up toward a moss-draped tree overhanging the facility's perimeter wall.

Braze blinked briefly as he felt the connection between them fade, then carefully drew his own mental shields back into their familiar place. He was uncharacteristically silent, somber jade-green eyes lingering upon the elder Jedi's posture as he watched for the smaller things: tension held through the shoulders, the set of his stance, the subtle shifts of muscle that might betray strain before words ever did.

Braze cut the engines with a simple motion and padded after him, his footsteps strangely absent against the deck even as he hopped down from the controls. His gaze lifted toward the tree, and after a brief consideration he offered the man a simple, curt nod.

Then he was off~

Braze darted ahead and bounded upward with all the deft agility of a squirrel, catching branch after branch before launching himself toward the wall. He cleared it in a smooth aerial turn, landing on the opposite side without so much as a scrape of his boots against the ground. The Force folded closely around him as he muted the little sounds of his movement and blurred his presence against the surrounding environment until he seemed to nearly disappear into it.

Rather than ask the elder jedi to expend any more energy than necessary, Braze slipped along the interior wall in search of the gate controls. Once he found the appropriate mechanism, he worked it carefully until the gates began to creak apart, opening a far less demanding path inside for the elder Jedi.

Gario smacked his hand against his face at Braze Braze 's foolishness. As expected, the smugglers hiding in the base noticed the gate slowly opening on its own, even though the boy was currently invisible using the Force. Shouts came from the guard towers, and it seemed like each guard was telling the next one that something strange was happening near the entrance.

Gario pulled his lightsaber to his hand using the Force and turned on the blue blade just in time to block several shots away from his head and into the water around him. Makashi was not a good form for blocking blaster shots, and the firepower pushed him back one step as he moved his wrist to keep them away from him.

Instead of staying put, he moved forward past the gate and tall plants, running straight at a Twi'lek soldier who was trying to fix his weapon. Their head tentacles moved a little as they tried to recover from the shock. Gario did not use his blade. He simply kicked them in the lower body area, knocking the guard out cold from the pain alone.

"Good work on the gate, kid," Gario said quietly into the misty yard, twirling his lightsaber in his hand as a Zabrak with a vibromace decided to test his luck next. He moved underneath the strike, to avoid any unnecessary movement and punched them in the stomach to send them tumbling to the floor.

A pair of smugglers had broken away from the inner yard and started toward the gate, evidently intent upon reinforcing the men already converging upon Gario. One was a broad-shouldered Nikto with a battered blaster carbine held tight against his chest, the weapon's finish worn pale around the grip from years of use. His companion was a lean Human in a weather-stained jacket, one hand hovering near the heavy pistol strapped low against his thigh as he craned his head toward the commotion beyond the tall swamp grass.

Neither appeared particularly concerned with what might be behind them as Gario Galahad Gario Galahad had garnered their immediate attention. Braze seemed to simply materialize just behind them.

Braze capitalized upon their attention being fixed elsewhere and slipped between them before either smuggler had properly registered the pale-haired figure emerging from the mist. A subtle push of the Force sent one stumbling into the other, tangling them together long enough for Braze to ghost past and deeper into the compound.

Gario already had his hands occupied with the Zabrak, as Braze's gaze shifted upward when movement along one of the guard towers caught his attention.

High above the yard, another smuggler had dropped to one knee behind the rusted railing. The rifleman was an older Weequay wrapped in a faded utility vest, leveling a long blaster rifle resting against the edge of the tower as he settled the stock firmly against his shoulder. The barrel tracked steadily across the compound until it began to settle upon Gario below....

Braze's hand lifted with the slightest curl of his fingers creating an invisible grip seized the rifle near its muzzle and ripped it violently sideways just as the Weequay was settling upon his shot. The weapon lurched against his grasp, wrenching his aim clear of Gario and nearly dragging him against the railing with it.

Braze had darted beneath the tower and caught the lower support, scaling the weathered framework with swift, leaping movements while the rifleman fought to regain control of his weapon. By the time the Weequay managed to wrench it back toward himself, Braze was already hauling himself over the upper platform when the rifle came around.

Braze caught the side of it before the barrel could find him squarely and with a sharp twist, he drove the weapon aside before he tore it from the man's grasp and sent it clattering across the metal decking. Rather than remain there to trade blows, Braze drove him backwards over the railing on the opposite side with a kick, shoving him away, and leaving the gunman disarmed and the immediate threat to Gario removed.

From this height, however, Braze could finally see considerably more of the compound. The young knight's green gaze swept across the rusted rooftops before settling upon an open loading bay along the side of the warehouse.

An odd sight caught his attention... Someone was running....

A thin Duros in a stained gray work coat hurried through the loading entrance, clutching a datapad against his chest with both hands as though the little device mattered considerably more than whatever was happening outside. He kept looking back over one shoulder, moving with the unmistakable urgency of someone who had decided that whatever was stored upon that datapad could not be allowed to fall into the 'wrong hands'.

He looked back to Gario Galahad Gario Galahad , " There's a runner," He said pointing off in that direction.

Gario didn't look up at the tower, but he heard the metallic crash of the rifle hitting the metal deck and the brief, heavy thud of the Weequay hitting the mud below. He stepped over the groaning Zabrak, his blue blade still humming low near his knee, and glanced over toward the loading bay where the kid was pointing. Through the fog, he caught a quick glimpse of the gray work coat disappearing around the corner of the main warehouse.

"Of course there's a runner," Gario muttered to Braze Braze , deactivating his lightsaber and clipping it to his belt. "It's never just the guys with the clubs." He took off at a jog across the wet yard, his boots splashing through deep puddles of standing swamp water. His left shoulder still hurt a bit from where the blaster bolt had hit his armor earlier, but the bacta was doing its job well enough.

He rounded the corner of the loading bay, keeping his head down as he scanned the narrow alleyway that ran along the side of the main building. The thin Duros was twenty yards ahead, slipping on the slick metal grating as he sprinted toward a small landing pad at the back of the property.

"Hey!" Gario called out, not even bother to raise his voice too loud. "Stop running! You're just going to fall and break your neck!" The Duros didn't listen. He scrambled up the short set of stairs leading to a parked cargo skiff, frantically punching numbers into the ignition keypad on the side of the console.

He reached out with a wave of the Force, hitting the skiff's control panel just as the Duros got the engine to turn over. Sparks flew from the console as the internal circuits fried, killing the engine with a loud whine. The Duros stumbled backward against the railing, staring wide-eyed at the dead controls before looking down at Gario walking up the stairs.
