Private A Dark Bargain

Officially, Rare Consequence was closed for business. The staff had long ago gone home to their meaningless lives, and the restaurant itself was still and silent. That wasn't to say that nobody was inside. Helix lounged alone at the corner table, tapping his fingers idly on the expensive wooden surface.

Since its construction, Rare Consequence had been the gift that kept on giving. Aside from the money, the information, and just having an outpost near the core, it had also proven itself a useful place for meetings.

Corellia was, at least for the moment, neutral space. That was likely to change in the very near future, but for now, it was easier to get people to agree to meetings here than in Sith space.

So it was with his latest contact. The stranger had been cautious, but expressed interest in joining the shadowy cabal that called itself the Dzara.

Kyber Kyber hadn't volunteered a reason why, nor had Helix asked. There was time enough for that tonight. He suspected it was for money, power, or knowledge. It always seemed to be. That was well and good in his book. If Helix knew one thing for certain, it was that everybody in the galaxy was out for themselves. Some denied it, some were honest about it, but it was a universal constant. At least with the latter you knew where they stood.

Tonight, he'd find out where Kyber stood, and whether he was worth inducting into the fold. Simply finding out how to contact them at all was a point in his favor, at the very least. That showed a degree of initiative. Helix would see if he had other virtues to discover.

Since Kyber decided to pay better attention to the rest of the galaxy after his reinvigoration he had heard of great horrors within the Blackwall. Creatures so horrifying and grotesque that if true would fill his non existent heart with joy. Finding more out about the group creating these beasts was hard enough with those who somehow both survived them and escaped the Blackwall normally being far too traumatized to give too much info even as Kyber probed their brains. It took some time but Kyber had figured out one of the potential testing sights this group used and after rigorous preparation was able to send one of his Rakghouls to the location with a holopad containing Kyber's request to cooperate with them. It wasn't until Kyber got a return message a few weeks later inviting him to some fancy restaurant in Coronet City that he knew his messaged was recieved.

As had become customary Kyber was wearing his old man Kybon disguise at least this time instead of the tattered robes his disguise came with a tailored suit. Taking positions outside Rare Consequence were two Rakghouls, both ghouls were fully covered in armour to hide their malformed plague ridden bodies with the faceplates of their helmets shaped to resemble drama masks with one with a smile and another with a frown. Cybernetics implanted in their heads ensured the ghouls did not go on a rampage while Kyber was busy with this meeting.

Kyber saw the shape of a tactical droid sitting in the corner of the empty restaurant, with not even the slightest residue of the force emitting from the figure Kyber concluded that it was in fact a droid and not a fellow shard. "Good This One doesn't have to pretend to eat." Kyber spoke with a slight relief taking a seat as his holographic disguise dissipated showing a slimmer than normal black HK droid. "Is That One one of The Masterminds of the organization or simply a tool?"

It was time to see if this group could help him get past the last final barriers that have jammed up his research into making the perfect Rakghoul virus.

As the entrance bell dinged, Helix looked up to see an unfamiliar and highly unusual figure. The fellow had brought security, too. Probably smart. That showed a lack of trust, and a lack of trust was a wise thing to have when interacting with the Chain.

At first glance, he appeared be a robed, wizened old humanoid, but appearances meant nothing in the world Helix moved in. He himself wore the guise of flesh regularly, as distasteful as it was. Sometimes it was better to not draw attention to oneself.

As Kyber Kyber sat down, his image flickered, revealing a droid model even older than Helix's had been. Now that was interesting. Helix didn't see too many such museum pieces still walking around, still surviving despite centuries or millennia of wear.

"No, no need to eat here, unless you wish to." Said Helix with almost indecent haste, remembering when Mercy Mercy had gone through a platoon's worth of food some time ago in this very booth.

Is That One one of The Masterminds of the organization or simply a tool?

He tilted his head at the question, a curiously birdlike expression of confused interest. "That would depend on who you ask. Being a droid, I'm sure you understand that regardless of our efforts or merits, we're seldom taken seriously. Just a particularly-advanced appliance in the eyes of most. You'll learn that things are... different around here."

"If you're well-informed enough to have heard of us, then you've probably heard of me, too." He continued. "Yes, you could could call me a mastermind. One of several. The Chain cares not for one's nature. Only for one's merit. I'm proof of that."

He looked the ancient droid model up and down appraisingly. "I'm more interested in you, however. You managed to find out who I am, what I do, and where to find me. That shows at least a modicum of cunning and an open ear. I'll open my ear to you in turn. What exactly is it that I can do for you, Mr...?" He realized he hadn't gotten the mechanical creature's name.
