The following is a complete video and audio recording of Garrion Der Rædwulf’s "Theed Speech," delivered in 902 ABY on the steps of Theed Palace.
This publisher by no means condones the actions or beliefs of the speaker, relating to any Galactic governmental entities or otherwise.
“Good afternoon, my name is Garrion Der Rædwulf. I was born 11,930 years ago—outside the borders of this realm, on the core world of Chandrila. I know many of you here today would doubt this claim, reasonably so. Who am I to you?"
After a brief pause, he continued.
“I am a stranger to this galaxy and to the High Republic. Its government is unlike any I have ever lived under. Though I come from a time many would consider alien, I find that our galaxy is not quite so different from when I left it.
The specter of evil persists: suffering and death, tyranny and oppression, depravity and hedonism—fuel to the furnace of destruction.
This specter has a new name. Where it was once called “heresy” by my people, to those among us now, it is known by many names: the Imperials, the Hutts, Black Sun, and many more.
However, there is one such faction known to all, its name associated with great terror:
The Sith.
They loom over our galaxy. A phantom determined to destroy, enslave, and inflict suffering.
In my time, there were men who stood to oppose such cruelty, waging righteous wars against those who sought to sow these seeds. Long ago I stood among them, serving as a general in the army of my chancellor, Contispex XIX, fighting to expunge their corruption.
Yet, who stands to oppose them now? The republic? Certainly not. Their politicians concern themselves more with their wealth than the safety of those they claim to represent. Those in power, driven by their fear, silence any who propose action.
They believe themselves incapable. A two-front war is considered a nightmare. They would rather wait, as the Sith control the lands to their north and west and maintain a puppet to the east in the form of a Mandalorian pretender.
A government that concerns itself more with politics cannot serve to defend its people.
If not the republic, then who shall rise to meet this menace? Who shall secure us lasting peace in the galaxy when our government is too reluctant to act, preferring to defer to committee without end?
I offer you the answer: the people.
Those most disgruntled and dissatisfied, with hearts of fire and the fuel of retribution to sustain them, will be the ones to fight to uphold what is right—to bring about change and build a future where their descendants can reap the fruits of the labors of their forefathers: peace and freedom.
Without the common man, no society can last. This is why change rests on the backs of the people: What we are to tolerate, and what we are to strike down with righteous fury. Those in power only retain their position due to the tolerance of their subjects, whether they acknowledge such or not, they are bound to that universal truth.
I stand here today neither to start a revolution nor to promote any galactic government. There are good people within the government of this Republic who hold the Sith in similar contempt as I, and it would be unjust for me not to commend them for their efforts, as well as those among them who hold the best interests of their people at heart even if they believe a war unviable. Thirdly, I do not seek to amass a personal army or to undermine the governmental authority of any galactic state. Instead, I appeal to anyone willing to listen.
I ask you: “How far are you willing to let them go? How long will you allow their cruelty to persist?”
For as long as we allow the Sith to continue their reign unimpeded, there shall be no change, there shall be no progress, and the light of freedom shall dim until it is snuffed out completely.
To any man or woman here today or listening from abroad, to anyone who hears my words and is compelled to action, I ask you to take up arms and fight back in any way you can.
I will see to it that any entity willing to oppose the Sith shall have their efforts receive the recognition they deserve, so that the people will know for certain they are not alone in their desire for freedom, for resistance, and for the destruction of the longest-standing tyrants in galactic history.
Though my voice may have little weight behind it, I will remain vocal. For as long as I live by the grace of my Goddess, I shall continually pledge my opposition to the Sith and all those who stand beside them. Any effort, no matter how insignificant, will be documented.
The greatest unpunished crime in our time is that this plague has been allowed to fester for as long as it has; this great crusade is long overdue.”
