A Jedi uses the Force for Knowledge and Defense, never for attack.
-Jedi Master Yoda

From the Starchaser Holocron

I know, I know, maybe I’m not the best, well no, scratch that, I know I’m not the best to be preaching this, not with my record. I don’t know how the galaxy will be seeing me when this holocron is being used. You all know who I am, and what I’ve done. Maybe its mid-life crisis, maybe its actual learning, but there is something to be said for what Master Yoda reportedly said all those centuries ago.

The Force is for knowledge and defense. Never for attack.

I don’t have any real answers, but merely a thought exercise, and my own experience.

Is a preemptive attack a defensive move? If you move, as I have in the past, to stop the Sith from expanding, convinced you are so righteous to stop them before they become a problem, is that defensive? Is it protection for the sake of protection? Or is it an attack without just cause? Knowing the enemy and what they do, does it make it proper? Knowing their potential for evil deeds?

A Jedi isn’t supposed to find joy and excitement in such things as combat. We are supposed to be removed from it, activating our lightsabers as a last resort, and using the Force even less.

I’ve been pre-emptive and I know I’ve helped stop darkness before it fell. I’ve been there as a defensive move after a blow has been struck, and there, its even easier to reason with aggressive actions.

But are we keepers of the peace if we show up before the Sith do, and press against any of our so-called enemies?

I know I can live with what I’ve done, but I also know, that my time in the lime light of the galactic wars are over, a new generation is taking over. I am satisfied with what I have accomplished. I am here to provide anyone with knowledge and opinion. The Jedi Order is my home, and I will do what I can to protect it in the future. I can help lead, but I do not feel, any longer, that war is where we are best utilized.

Maybe as I continue to dig deeper into the arcana of the light side, and into the history of our Order, the Knowledge I uncover can assist…
