THE ELEVENTH HOUR
FATE OF THE CHISS vol. I
Issue #1-3

For years now, ever since the destruction of Csilla by the hands of the Maw, the Chiss Territories have been disputed by the Brotherhood, the Empire, and the Alliance. The devastation in this conflict has been personified by the Battle for Noris. Almost a year of a bloody stalemate on the world between the Maw and the Empire is finally broken when the fleets of the Brotherhood glass the planet to oblivion.

THE IMMORTAL FALLS

"Your kind will fall as you always have... and I will gladly die to see that happen!"
—Imperial Commando Greven Astor to Death's Hand Mandalorian Kralmus Orr
The final stages of the Winter Contingency -- the Empire's withdrawal from Chiss Space -- hinges upon the Orbital Defence Canon on Noris safeguarding the evacuation of the Imperial forces. Shut down by Maw saboteurs, it were mercenary Prulesa Natasi 's valiant (or very avaricious) efforts that brought it back online giving the chance for numerous more ships to escape.

After acquiring the Brotherhood's MOAB Sergeant Cormac Thire loads the bomb into the canon but dies before firing it. In a last-ditch blitz through the ranks of the Maw who are overrunning the front lines protecting the canon, elements of the 117th manage to fire the MOAB at the Maw's Super Star Destroyer the Immortal.

Its demise is one final triumph for the Empire before the world is mercilessly glassed by the Brotherhood's Fleets in orbit finalizing their control over the Chiss Territories.

STORMTROOPERS SACRIFICED TO BUY TIME

"We'll just keep getting back up, that's what. You'll keep coming, and we'll keep fighting. You can't take away our will to live free. YOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY OUR DEFIANCE!"
"Watch me!"
—Sergeant Anith Dorce and Sith Lord Darth Saevius
moments prior to the former's final stand.

With the Maw on the offensive, several Imperial units on patrol would be isolated from FOB: Belisarius, though Captain Karsh's conscious decision to send 1st-Lieutenant Sienar back to lead the defence efforts, and buying time for the others in drawing the attention of the Death's Hand contingent in the area, would allow for other aggressive plays on the Imperial side that would keep the city's defenders in the fight. Even if only for a little longer, though the order for all units beyond the walls of FOB: Belisarius to return to base would be a helpful last play for the Chiss and Mandalorians who were still fighting for survival in the city.

Many key TIE-Wing pilots on the Imperial side perished in the latter stages of the battle itself, all whilst the Maw's eastward advance continued, prompting the sharpshooters of Scope Platoon (and the two Elite-Troopers aiding them) to lead a sallying action in the same direction to stay one step ahead of the very Mawites who were just minutes away from breaking the western HASCO line. Breaking through and setting up in anticipation of the next attack, just one Elite-Trooper would stay behind with the Scope sharpshooters who broke through with them, opting instead to hold the line one last time - with all the remaining Imperials still spoiling for a fight until the bitter end.

THE MAW LAYS NORIS TO WASTE

"The Voice has spoken. Today we cleanse the galaxy of the unclean, we peel back the rotting malignance so that chaos can replace it. Let no Chiss survive, show no Imperial mercy. The Void hungers for all of them."
—Dark Apostle Rannan Kol addressing the Mawite marauders

The unshakeable defense of the Imperial navy seemed unbreakable - but even titans must fall. In a show of force that had once only been shown in propaganda pieces by those that feared the Brotherhood, the Maw's naval presence that arrived to shatter the iron will of the Noris defense was the largest it had ever been seen to be in a single place. Brilliant tactical defense and strategic play became inconsequential in the face of overwhelming force and the last ditch effort to secure an escape from the doomed planet saw a mother of all bombs sent rocketing into the Immortal.

With the Brotherhood flagship destroyed so, too, were any qualms with reducing the planet to glass - the shimmering embers of a falling wreckage over the planet was accompanied with the rain of hellfire in the way of turbolaser bombardment across the surface of Noris.
