ALDERAAN

PRESS REPORT
The return of King Alicio Organa has largely been a positive occasion, with citizens and notables lining the streets of Aldera to watch the parade and join in the festivities. However, not all were there to celebrate. Activists wearing red and yellow armbands blockaded several side streets near the parade, peacefully protesting the King's return. They are supporters of the Alderaanian Self-Determination Front, a pro-democracy movement that opposes both the monarchy and the government's petition to join the High Republic.
In a press interview, one local organizer had this to say:
"Alicio Organa is a failed leader," began Zal Nur, an artisan who produces decorative glassware and is a local leader within their community. "He led the Galactic Alliance to its destruction at the hands of imperial insurrectionists, and now has the audacity to return and retake the throne. This is a disaster. He should do the decent thing and abdicate! The people should determine Alderaan's future, not a sovereign and his sycophantic government!"
Although the monarchy has always enjoyed popular support on Alderaan, King Organa likely faces an uphill battle to refute even his most ill-informed critics. The Galactic Alliance was the galaxy's foremost power until its demise under Alicio's chancellorship, and such a mark would threaten to destroy the career and reputation of any politician, regardless of personal popularity. Whether Alicio has the wherewithal to weather this storm and safeguard Alderaan's future is the million-credit question on everyone's minds.
To better understand these circumstances, we have asked Flint Stunnel, Professor of Xenosociology and Political Science at the University of Alderaan, to weigh in:
"Let me put it this way. He led a failed government, and, until recently, was believed dead or missing... Now he returns, in quite a shock, to lead us during this very difficult time. I think it is fair for people to wonder, "He failed the Alliance. Will he fail Alderaan, too?" I would consider whether his return invites scandal rather than reassurance during a time where strong, unquestioned leadership is often looked for."
Not all critics call for an end to the monarchy, of course. Some hope the King will abdicate in favor of his daughter, while others believe it is time for a new House to lead Alderaan. Whether such figures will emerge remains to be seen.
"The real test begins once the stupor of celebration runs its course."
